Being truly on my own is a bit of a weird feeling. It's never really happened.

Let it never be said that sometimes extreme brevity isn't the most appropriate post, though. Everything is a tool.

"Do you remember what happened last night? It seems that someone barefoot must have trod upon one of your nails," Ryuuko stated, not wanting to waste time waiting for the maid to get around to it herself. Her magic might have been successful for now but there was no guarantee that it would stay this way: she wanted to get the information out of the trap-laying black-haired girl and then let her go and try to recover from what had happened.
"Umbra, she cut your arrow out of the air and hit the captain without you or your juniors intervening," the paladin said, endeavouring to deflate the elf's ego before it started another fight over wounded pride of all things, "If you cause a duel from insulting that shares a common cause, we won't be stepping in to help you." We aren't going to endanger everyone else for mouthing off. If you're that confident, then you should enjoy proving your skill against her.

I would.

Regardless of her thoughts on Umbra's attitude, it was the paladin's duty to explain--now that the fighting had come to a halt--exactly why they didn't need to fight any more. She straightened, then hooked her sword over the catch once added to the back of her armour.

"The bodies inside the fort have been there for several days, enough that the current clear weather has already caused noticeable decay. There are a lot of bodies. If this man or the messenger," here she indicated Alette's latest victim, "were part of the original garrison, I would expect them to be already dead. Not escaping so close to being killed off by a hired band.

"Though this only marks a cessation of hostilities until we complete our investigation," she finished, looking down at the Shark.
"A rune has been placed on your forehead and I am going to remove it," the apprentice mage stated, not waiting for the maid's consent. For all she knew, the girl would be obliged to try and stop her because of whatever else the rune was doing. One hand blurred into position under black hair and the other got ready to stop anything that she might choose to do.

Maybe a more experienced magic user could have done this with no mental preparation or elaborate symbolism. Ryuuko had no such shortcuts available and split the simple operation into two parts: first establish a link with the target. Her fingers formed the physical bridge and from there made a path for the mystical. Then visualise a void within the rune, drawing down mana through the link, consuming all until the fragile symbol would be unable to take any more and the gaping emptiness would devour it as well.

The inefficiency of such an operation was clear; a spiky corona of darkness--coloured mana--engulfed her hand and the top of the girl's head, but she was sure that some of it was going into its destination and--hopefully--would remove the rune to continue their investigation.
Replying to Diarmuid is a sort of "uh, what" situation because I am not willing to make a post consisting pretty much entirely of walking away because she doesn't care. xD
Instead of a decrease in the danger from attacking the tentacles, Noriko was confronted with an explanation for how it had sent more in to start with and an unpleasant realisation that even buying time by distracting it wouldn't work. She'd thought that the initial increase in tentacles meant that the Negari was putting more effort into getting her and less on fighting the outside. Obviously this was a mistaken assumption.

Though to successfully escape and help, she should disable the tentacles somehow. Her knives were infinite until she transformed back and the tentacles were thin enough to stab through entirely, whilst the monster didn't seem too intelligent. There were too many to go through one by one, but if she attacked above the latest splits...

Taking advantage of the tentacles' apparent tendency to attack where she had just been, Noriko started throwing the knives for the thicker limbs, hoping to pierce them and pin it in place. Then she could get out the front uncontested.
Tyaethe spun around, taking stock of the battle and realising things were about to get very messy unless she intervened. That was exactly what she had been trained to do in the first place, though... what good was a defending paladin that couldn't break up a fight without striking a single blow? Her sword was big enough to work as a shield for more than one reason.

Alette's view of the captain was obscured by a looming figure in dull plate, and the incoming attacks impacted instead on a shield far more durable than the squashy mercenary would have been. The Shark wasn't being entirely trusted, either: any attempt to get at someone beyond Tyaethe would have to go through her shield, her sword, or the paladin. None of those options were going to present a clear chance of getting someone on the other side.

"STAND DOWN! That man was a traitor!"

How did she know? Simple: the bodies were several days old. They'd only received word of something happening at the fort today and had arrived to find the mercenaries still finishing off its previous occupants. So either more than one person had suddenly gotten away after days of the garrison being slowly decimated... or the mercenaries were telling the truth. But all the corpses were days old, so that wouldn't hold...
More tentacles? That was fine, one or a dozen was hardly an issue so long as they weren't literally flooding the store--in which case, Noriko could see another door that had to lead to another way out of some description. Until then, she could keep the Negari tied up in fighting her long enough that some other magical girl could attack it from the outside and score an easier kill.

That meant she had to keep moving. Another slash could get a tentacle but that left seven more inevitably going to converge on her position: jump up to one shelf and select a new target. Six left but the shelving, and her chances of getting something to eat here, were almost certainly gone. In a room that was filling with black flesh, was there such a thing as a safe position? Undoubtedly, this one was huge and with all her emphasis on speed...

The Ripper perched on one tentacle as if it was a tree branch, waiting for the instant the other tentacles would move towards her: if she could get the bunch all tangled up or force the Negari to hurt itself then she would be in a stronger position. Especially once she sliced through her fourth tentacle of the fight. Someone outside would have to finish things, though.
Ryuuko paused, not having considered that. To her limited knowledge, the arts seemed more or less the same: you drew specific symbols, imbued them with mana, and that had some effect. But from Tomoko's answer, it seemed that there was more of a separation than she had assumed? In that case, perhaps here assumption that the same person was behind both was misinformed... had someone been trying to surreptitiously sabotage the theft? Or maybe they had been wrong and there wasn't an onmyouji at all?

"Though the evidence found at the site was undoubtedly a fragment of ofuda, I cannot say for certain whether it was indeed a traditional design or whether some foreign rune was imprinted upon it," the purple-haired girl admitted, "Or it might be that a second magic user was at work here, though the thief's injury and your maid's lost memories hide whose side they were really on."
Ryougi's third personality is... maybe the Root, or maybe a subset of it. She's the body's original personality before other stuff got involved and doesn't really have much interested in being involved with anything. Which would make her literally impossible to summon or make into a Servant, because she is part of the Root.

She's quite nice. Very polite.
Saber Ryougi has worse agility than Assassin Ryougi.

Removing all Servant stuff or logic, that's absolute nonsense. Ryougi with a sword is faster. Who the hell gave stats for that?
