Being truly on my own is a bit of a weird feeling. It's never really happened.

Let it never be said that sometimes extreme brevity isn't the most appropriate post, though. Everything is a tool.

Lillia Avemaria

The other heiress walked forwards after the obstacle was removed, crouching to look at the chalk outline. That was... oh, interesting. It wasn't a perfect removal from this little bloodstain, they were probably coughing up blood before they died... which would mean that the large stain was where the organs had wound up, if anything. But that was a simple trick, if Arinne wanted to know that then she could just ask Saturday, not gather a bunch of investigators...

Time to show what she could do: Lillia produced a small ceramic box from one pocket... full of dirt. Another pocket evidenced a knife, which carefully scraped off some of the larger bloodstain to be sprinkled over the dirt. And finally--a third pocket evidenced nothing other than a handful of cut daisies, whose stems were pushed gently into the dirt.

"Like to Like... even in death, a body is one," she mutters, the magical energy pushing down and into the strange arrangement, "Find yourself."

On cue, the daisies revolved, turning to point in different directions--with one bending almost in half to point. That one lead to the body, then. "If the organs are not protected, we can find them."
No, this isn't accepting random applicants right now.

Premise: one day, there's technology in Gensokyo that wasn't there before. A lot of technology. Not top-of-the line, but certainly newer than anyone usually had to deal with... and normally things come through the border rarely; not like someone raided an old electronics store and scattered it around...

It's Touhou. Use a canon character. Or make someone up. Remember loss of hat is fatal.

Charlotte Hughes

In contrast to her dress the day before, Charlotte was now almost formally dressed, though the clothing seemed loose enough to not constrict her movement. Were it anyone else, there would be the concern about it getting caught--from the size of the enormous sword that she had brought with her, the idea that any clothing could catch in a way she wouldn't tear free from without thinking was quite implausible.

Sword aside, she had come prepared: a knife, as a knife was always a useful tool to have on hand even if she didn't need to stab someone with it, and she'd even pre-empted the lack of provided equipment and brought an assault rifle of her own accord. When your attribute didn't provide anything in the way of versatility, you had to compensate somehow--even if it was just making sure you could operate if the rift turned out to be pretty cramped.

"Now remember, everyone stay behind the unkillable metal wall, and if I lose my head, go find somewhere safe to hang out until I've got it back in place. And if you need to feed someone to a monster to get away, pick Albrecht; he's got the luxury lifestyle so he's bound to taste best," she said, grinning at their blond funder--and then walking into the rift.

Now the desserts had started arriving, the oldest of the group was digging in with wild abandon, thinking about the best way to put it and whether it was important they really knew. Almost certainly; sharing operational information was a high priority, and it would avoid misunderstandings later. "Charlotte Hughes, Attribute: Immortality. It only extends to my body, but it covers anything that I see as part of my body, so don't worry if I get hurt or something, I'll heal up soon enough.

"And yes, me and the eggheads are sure it's immortality, not some super-healing. I was a bit careless in testing it out, and it's pretty universal. So long as I don't get stuck I'll walk it off." she continued, pushing away an empty plate of cake and starting in on ice-cream. "Aside from that, I just have my strength and a massive sword. Got some guns and a knife if we need to go in somewhere more confined."

There, that ought to cover it.
Sir Tyaethe

The paladin seemed to forego her weapon in the name of dealing with the laser blasts: swinging the massive sword to cut into it, blocking the worst of the damage--her armour obviously searing from the rest, but nevertheless intact. Unlike the now-bladeless weapon... though that hardly mattered. The "but why" was answered scant seconds later; like the others, Tyaethe ran straight at the crumbling tower... and ignored the doorway or the stairs.

Indeed, the knight had apparently decided that the state of the outside and the tower being at a slight incline made it faster to simply scale the wall rather than dealing with collapsed staircases. Perhaps fast enough to avoid another laser barrage, though it would be quite the task to aim it almost vertically downwards with any accuracy...

This wasn't the first time that Charlotte had been in some sort of fancy restaurant; although she couldn't afford to go to them herself, having a particularly unusual Attribute meant that occasionally the rich and famous had wanted to ask some questions--or, in a memorable case, provide a bit of extra incentive to go through with what would be an ethical disaster had anyone else agreed to it. After the first time, the former marine had developed a consistent strategy: eat the bare minimum that constituted a meal, then load up on desserts.

Which notably explained why she appeared to be writing a far too lengthy order out.

Helping out Xu Jian in the "not quite fitting in with the high society" situation was the rift diver's choice of clothing for this meal--rather than the fancy but at least durable outfit she wore when working, the cyborg had gone for a tank-top and shorts. At least nobody could be under any impression the girl swinging around the massive sword wasn't already muscular.

"Oh, the legs? Prosthetics, and some pretty good ones at that. Better than the originals, feeling, you know. Everything. A few minor hiccups but who really cares about that?"

Well, someone who couldn't undo the damage in a few minutes, obviously.
Alkyrieaze von Einzbern

There was a chance that she might need to make an appearance later to submit some alchemy-related coursework--or, as far as the Einzbern was concerned, spend five minutes doing it before wandering off--and the girl had thought... why not take the time on the way in to get something to eat? On one of the streets near the university, there was a nice crepe stand, and what was wrong with having something like that just after breakfast...?

It was hard to read Altera's interests, but she assumed the Servant wanted one too, and they were just about to leave the stand--when the Saber almost teleported from the homunculus' perspective, blocking the road in one direction and frowning. Perhaps that was because of the incoming danger or maybe it was because her crepe had transformed into a rainbow-coloured sword. It was quite hard to tell.

The cause for her concern was quite obvious: a rapidly advancing man with an enraged expression on his face, dressed entirely in black. Clearly a Servant... and one who seemed to be too much of a risk in his current state to allow to approach her Master. Yet he wasn't outright attacking her, and the response to his charge was therefore nonlethal: although the dark-skinned Servant attacked, ice shooting up where the whiplike sword struck... she did so considerably in advance of the approaching Hijikata, as a deterrent.
Hanako

It had been with great difficulty that Hanako had finally gotten to sleep that night, concerned that her offer to help had been more poorly received then she would have liked... and constantly on guard for the shrine maiden after her somewhat concerning offer. With the Hex Night occupying her attention and feeling unlikely to contribute on her lack of sleep, the short girl had opted against going to school--rationalising that she could just catch up on her sleep in the library somewhere and be ready when all the others were done with the day.

Unfortunately...

Well, here she was being the world's most useless shrine maiden. There was something about a divine spirit in a box that needed to be appeased, and sweeping in the right pattern else the shrine's energy would be off... and with the very real existence of magic, what if all this was true, too?

"R-Right!" the white-haired girl said, trying to remember it all. Appease the komainu... sweep the broom in the right rhythm...

Himeko was being treated to the sight of someone trying to sweep a statue's nostrils with a broom.
Something tells me that having the cyborg and the robot on the same team would probably make sense, whatever team that ends up being.

And yeah, I'm not against pairing up with Albrecht. You needed someone who it doesn't violate every ethical guideline to use for testing, Charlotte wanted to be able to go exploring in the rifts again... everybody wins!

  • Name: Charlotte Hughes
  • Age: 34
  • Personality: When in an immediately life-threatening situation, she displays a calm and no-nonsense attitude. The keyword being immediate. If there's only the promise of danger, then Charlotte is somewhat lackadaisical about the risks--her eyes might be peeled and she might be ready to respond immediately but she'll probably be joking the whole time.
Her rather black humour can be troublesome for more concerned explorers.
  • Attribute: Immortality [Concept]
  • Abilities: From her attribute, Charlotte derives the incredibly obvious ability of not dying. Her body will also return to what she views as its default state fast enough to be visibly regenerating--a particularly useful distinction as it both avoids the risk of being caught in an infinite return-to-injured loop and maintain her current status.
To make up for having the most purely-defensive attribute possible, and overcome prior weaknesses, Charlotte is also... well, exactly as she appears--half man, half machine. She's enormously strong, as the ability to wield a sword that massive might attest, and pretty agile--not the best sprinter, but her reactions and standing jumps are something to behold.
As former military, her combat skills are pretty wide, if inclined towards the "rusty" due to the strangeness of rifts and her own durability. Except actually using other weapons; you can't take a 9' long sword into places.
  • Skills: She can cook, sew, clean things up, swim, gush over cats... really, her skills are mostly that which gets you by in daily life, or necessary for military action.
  • History: Charlotte's early life couldn't be said to be anything super unusual for a British child of the era--not really the most academically inclined, but not particularly distinguished. In the end, she wound up choosing a military career, ending up in the Royal Marines. Perhaps it wasn't so surprising that she was thus in one of the first groups to actually start probing the rifts before it became an almost normal thing...
Whilst she was therefore one of the first to show up with a Conceptual Attribute, she also became one of the first actually severely injured in the process--something that kept her out of commission for an annoyingly long few years, as Charlotte was still trying to grasp the extent of her own abilities and not wind up halfway back to being incapacitated on a regular basis.
But once her own grasp of her ability firmed up, it opened a lot of possibilities... after all, who better to test and employ dangerous cybernetics based on Rift materials than the person who could revert any damage they might do until things could be replaced? And at the same time, it would let her make up for her earlier disaster... and keep exploring the worlds that had captivated her from the first sight.
