Being truly on my own is a bit of a weird feeling. It's never really happened.

Let it never be said that sometimes extreme brevity isn't the most appropriate post, though. Everything is a tool.

Maletha shifted uncertainly, but with Elisandre stretching an arm back to wrap around her, and the child nodded. "Okay, I want to hear it."

"You really fought the Midnight Hunt?" The prince, quiet as he had been until now and focused on the tournament preparations, turned his disbelieving gaze over to Gertrude, "And you won? This sounds more like some fey ploy to me."

"Enrich!"

While Tyaethe would have liked to jump to the defence of the order – and, surely, her testimony would be more persuasive; if nothing else she had fought the Hunt twice – the sudden weight pressing against her chest was a distraction. A very embarrassing one. "I didn't think you'd do it…"

But the vampire made no move to shove her off, giving Gretchen all the time she wanted to try and puzzle out the beating, as well as she could hear it. Fast, far too fast, but that was a given for any vampire – yet, once past that, distinctly uneven, not just skipping but generally sticking to an odd three beat pattern more often than not. Then there was the sound of… something.

"Only one?" Haizea's voice dipped in disappointment, but then she brightened up, "Well, I just need to make sure it's the right time to join in!"

Miina Malina

Oh, that was even better than she expected – perhaps not easily repeatable, but it could disable dragons, and if they were grounded and wounded that left her plenty more options. Even if they were charging her, they had exposed injuries, and suddenly the size and thick hide didn't mean anywhere near as much—

Or someone else could come in and do it for her. With far more force than Miina could quite imagine herself bringing to bear. That was…

"I d-didn't need the help," the mystral sighed, straightening, "Th-There was something… n-nevermind."

What tension remained in Miina's body drained as the general called for peace. Strange tack for one of the invaders to be taking, even if he was telling the truth. The Kirins in general had spent months fighting Valheim at every turn, damaging their hold on the main occupation, thwarting another conquest attempt, and generally running into their turncoat at every corner. The amount of resources wasted on the half dozen of them alone generally demanded retribution, even before counting the cost of their interference.

Garland was right, though; the fight wasn't in their favour. Izayoi and Galahad might be able to keep him busy in combat, if he hadn't healed up just as much as they had, but she would be their only ranged support. There was more versatility in magic than gunfire, but she had much less force than a sudden cannon, and he was a mage too. Fighting for long enough to make an escape was completely doable, but a victory? Well… not one where everyone was alive and whole, she'd predict.

Besides, this wasn't really personal for her. Even the Blight was just something that was… there. Well, she cared a little that Izayoi did find it personal, but…

If Valheim was going to stay out of her way or actually help for the time being, then Miina was perfectly fine with it. Doubly in this case; what he was promising was much more interesting than just another fight to the death against an enemy commander. As was, honestly, being able to work with Garland for any length of time and study what he did; other mages were always so useful. Even ones buried in more armour than she could lift.

"D-Dead? Mmm… all k-killed, or not staying dead?" she asked, tilting her head. Was that even possible? Well, maybe; if it was happening then it had to be possible, and the question was 'how' and also 'can I go see?'.

Miina Malina

With two dragons now approaching her, there was no way that Miina could keep the suppressing gale up. She'd be forced to keep dodging at best until they could be put down and that would only increase the complexity massively, if she even had the attention to spare. It had served its main purpose; it wasn't three against a swarm of flying blighted hellbeasts free to strafe them constantly with fire or lightning or some strange blighted alternative.

It had to be dropped.

The redhead licked her lips, only having moments to run through some sort of plan. Just abandon it to dissipate and fall back on standard spells? That would be insufficient, her repertoire simply didn't have the immediate firepower to deal with two dragons. It basically needed Izayoi or Galahad to intervene and they had their own problems. Miina couldn't engage in melee in any capacity against people, so dragons were even further out of the question.

Miina could haste herself and dodge, sneaking in spells here and there. Make it a battle of attrition, maybe drop one of them before the others were done. It was simple; it was safe; it was something she'd demonstrated plenty of times before.

Ears folded back and body lowered, Miina prepared to dispel the vortex but—

She was still actively maintaining it. She still controlled it, and it wasn't destabilised entirely of its own accord yet. She could use it instead.

Tighter, tighter, tighter; pull in the spiral and rein it back in, back towards her. Focus the wind as tight as she dared, until it threatened to pull her from her near-crouch and the dragons were upon her. No longer a hurricane, more a shrieking extension of her sword, swung to intersect with the monsters.

A feral grin split her face. Just enough time to swing, then to throw herself aside and watch what it did.

Would this just knock them about? Or was it strong enough to tear into the blighted monsters? How could wings meant to catch the wind fare against against the entire force of a storm?
Corinne and Liliane

"Break?" Corinne asked, tilting her head and blinking a few times. "Break what?"

"She means we should get started," Liliane said, shaking her head at the other girl's odd conclusion, "If they're dug in, you might be the best option to let us get in close. Start casting, Cori."

"Oh, right! Umm…" the mage frowned in concentration, then started chanting something under her breath, the antiquated Talderian flowing smoothly, a chant calling on the sky, and the wind, and the tempest. Light swirled and gathered around the head of the staff, flashing and pulsing erratically. When she was nearly done, the other Hundi nodded and rushed for the gates, daggers in hand.

"Right, fire when I say. Everyone else, cover your ears and don't look," There was no point firing if one goblin just came rushing through on its own, but if there were multiple…

Practically dragging the mage through the opening in the walls, Liliane waited until she could clearly hear the chattering, then "Now!"

"Thunderclap!"

Whatever the goblins were expecting, she really doubted the little greenskins would be prepared for what appeared to just be a bright light shooting ahead into the fort. Nor for it to explode with a deafening crack and a blinding light. Much easier pickings for everyone else to fall in on.

"T-The M-M-Midnight Hunt?" The difference in reaction between the two sisters was immediate – Maletha paled and immediately clung onto Elisandre for dear life, with the elder princess leaning forward eagerly. When she noticed that her younger sister had latched onto her side, she sat back a little, sheepish and pulling her close.

"Um… this isn't going to be a scary story, is it?" Elisandre belatedly asked – the idea that, this far in, it could have been a disastrous battle only just occurring to her.

Which might make working around some of the actions taken in the fighting a little difficult.

Haizea was practically vibrating in place at the idea of being able to take part again – even briefly. "Really? You really think you can do it? Everything Aimada tried or everyone she asked couldn't do anything…"

Likely because of the complexity of the problem, and maybe just the inability to throw more mana at the problem.

"Heart, lungs, whatever…" Tyaethe shrugged, voice carefully level even while her body was turned away, "… It's not like it's gone away, you could come over here and listen if you wanted. It's just not a problem any more."

Team Farm

"Anything in common?" Fletcher repeated, hand reaching up to scratch the beginnings of stubble as he thought over the question, "Aye, not that it'll narrow it much. Anything that hasn't got crops on it this year, I've been trying to move them around since it started. I'll show you in the morrow."

He gave a nod to Csenge. "I've spare rooms, 'less you all prefer to sleep out here."

If nothing else, the man seemed somewhat reassured by the idea that there'd be a watch kept over his disappearing livestock.

She'd take the lack of answer – and the state of the dragons as they approached – as a yes, kill them all. Well, she'd probably still avoid targeting the unblighted ones specifically, but there were so few that she couldn't see it mattering if they died… she just wanted to keep the distraction around as long as possible. Three of them against what was about to be over a dozen Blighted dragons? Anything extra was welcome–

Well, not having to keep an ear open for that annoying blonde woman at the same time, not being able to give her full attention to just the magic was…

Nothing for it, though.

"N-N-No flying," Miina hissed, concentrating on the same combination Izayoi had showed off back on the ship over to Drana. Almost the same, almost, but not quite. With one of her arms out of commission, she couldn't release it as two separate streans she was balancing into one effect, no. Everything had to be twined together into one unstable spell first, wanting to reject themselves and – well, it was a good thing she had a proper catalyst, any slip-up would have been agonising otherwise.

As it was, her sword was still humming as she cast whatever this was at this point, but there was an upside to doing it this way. It made it a lot easier to balance the disparate elements while they were all still directly within her grasp. Enough, maybe, to hold the resulting vortex together for several minutes – or, perhaps, long enough to deal with these beasts.

Sorry, wanted to save some of the details for later. From the stories she was told as a kid, the settlers of New Iowa crossed space in covered wagons with Monopoly being the only way to pass the time. And the Imperial Navy didn't make her into a warrior-elite fighter pilot on a ship of the line, she was doing grunt work on an aging repair ship. The eggs were for her mother, worried something would happen and Lara wouldn't be able to have kids when she got out.

I'll work on a civilian character.

Eh, I was less worried about the skillset, and more... it'd be weird if everyone had similar backgrounds? Overall it was fine, just that one point. xX
