There hasn't been a change of scene since the Zeroth, it's still late at night, and that exchange has just happened in the Courtyard. Either something would bring your characters there to witness it at that time, or another character will tell you about it (feel free to collaborate with any player whose character was a witness in this case). Also, considering the first few posts, your characters don't necessarily have to be at the party Rainna is throwing, but do go ahead if you have an idea that starts them off there.

@KatherinWinter Kai has gone down to the basement and gotten ambushed by a couple of surprisingly cute unnamed assassins while Isago and Ratte who are waiting near the trapdoor behind the tavern are being attacked by Jobba (spear man) and Flying Edge (archer woman). Back down in the the basement, Kai has exchanged some words with the female assassin right before the Griffin and the captain, who had been talking at their seats went over to the door inside the tavern leading to the basement, opened it, and saw Kai and the two assassins. Kai is now trying to bolt past Griffin and the captain (who are at the doorway) in an attempt to escape. Hope that clears things up lol.
