Ugh. Life is hitting me hard right now. Please everyone bear with me.

Bio

I'm an experienced, literate, detailed roleplayer with about 25 years of experience or so. I got my feet wet with forums, online messaging, World of Warcraft, and in person TTRPGs, of course.

I have a wide range of interest and experience, with everything from modern age to high and low fantasy to Lovecraftian mayhem. I look forward to contributing to the community here more often!

As the unmarked vehicle drove off, leaving her alone, Julie cast her blue eyes upon the square mile of dark, dead soil. To a lot of people, the Dark Mile would send chills up their spine. Maybe if you had asked her several years ago, Julie would have told you the same thing. Now, however, after all she had seen, very little scared her - at least, when it came to superficial horrors. The flickering lights, the dark alleyways, the strange noises outside your window... It meant little at this point. Just part of the job. When you went underneath old Chuck E. Cheese locations to hunt down beasts lurking in the basement, or you wandered lonely caverns near rural towns to look for minute monsters hunting local children, it all became routine.

Her mind ran through the mission in her head. Clara Matthews, missing woman. Last seen leaving a bar. They had found an IP address of a witness. No doubt the witness was the one who had shared what they saw as a creepypasta story. Of course, Julie wasn't one to jump to conclusions - it was common for missing persons to turn into creepypasta stories. Someone hears about a person disappearing, and they start to come up with stories about how aliens took them to go fight some evil empire. Yeah I know, people lie on the internet - weird, isn't it?

But sometimes... sometimes those stories were true. What's the old cliche? That's where I step in. I carry a badge.

She took another step towards it when a voice broke through the darkness. "Miss Underwood." Julie froze and turned her head towards the sound. It was like something out of those old noir films: a man in an overcoat, hanging out by a streetlamp that was clearly on its last electrical legs. The streaks of grey hair betrayed a sense of experience, and that cigarette in his lips betrayed a certain level of ego she had come to expect. Since she fully recognized the man: Agent Joseph Arbor of the BPA. Also known, by those who hated speaking in acronyms, as the Bureau of Paraphysical Anomalies. CASS was like a smaller, perhaps more contained version of it: the BPA went after anomalies of all sorts, whereas CASS largely focused on those that might have been shared secretly online. A lot of the other agencies looked down at CASS, and stereotyped them as failed federal agents who spent their days watching YouTube videos or scouring forum posts. BPA agents were the worst, and were well known to look down on CASS agents. Arbor was certainly no exception. And somehow... somehow... Arbor kept showing up at her investigations.

Oooooooh boy, came a thought in her mind. Bring back the Chuck E. Cheese monsters, please...

He approached her, describing his surprise at seeing her. His eyes took in her tailor and made a comment on how conspicuous she was. Julie was in her standard dress: a dark beige pants suit, with a blazer tailored to her feminine shape, and a thin black tie that went down along her buttoned-down dress shirt. It did wonders to hide the flak vest underneath. Frankly, with that borderline Van Dyke mustache of his, she wasn't sure if he was one to talk about conspicuousness.

"Well you know," Julie said, smiling to show no sign that Arbor was irritating her, "my father was a lieutenant inspector on the force. He dressed sharp too. He had a saying when people mocked him for it: 'If I die, I die well dress.'" She actually had a cover story for her dress: she was a reporter from a newspaper out of town, investigating the missing girl claims. Of course, she wasn't about to share that with Arbor - she trusted him like she trusted a greasy frat boy with a free drink.

It was then he offered a cigarette, and she waved her fingers in a dismissive manner. "I gave it up in college. I only smoked them to stay awake anyway." She crossed her arms then and leaned her head back. Given her short-cut blonde hair, almost like a pixie cut, it exposed her slender neck well. She'd certainly had to stick her neck out for people in the past before - and nearly lost her head a few times in the process. "The bigger question, Arbor, is what are you doing here? Why would BPA be interested in a small town like this? Surely you all prefer to let the small fry agencies handle the small town problems. You know, like CASS."
Okay, so here's how I handled the history spiel. I wrote down all the different potential histories my character could have, using the rules. I've assigned each person where I think they would fit.

However, I am very, very, very big on not god-moding other people's characters, and I never want to sound like I'm bossing someone around when it comes to roleplay. If you think your character would fit somewhere else, or you would like something changed, please by all means feel free to offer suggestions. There are a few parts where I leave it open for you to fill in the details.

* Your relationship with them has romantic potential. So far it hasn't gone further.

* They're on the Agency's watch list, and you've been keeping an eye on them.

Alexander Huether
@Tally Dor
Specifics: He's been on a watch list for a long time, but as Tally said, not a lot is on file about him. CASS is eager to learn more about him if need be. Keep in mind CASS doesn't want him dead necessarily - they're just curious to learn more about him and whether or not he's truly a threat.

* You are related. Tell them how close.

Tiffany Graves.
@PatientBean
Specifics: Tiffany and Julie are actually related through Tiffany's father: Julie is the daughter of one of his cousins.

* You met them on a mission and worked together unofficially. And successfully.

Iustina Anghelescu
@enmuni
Specifics: Perhaps they met when Julie was investigating a potential vampire legend. They teamed up with Julie initially using a cover story, only for her to reveal her true identity after learning to trust Iustina. After they caught the vampire, Julie left Iustina to handle the rest.

* They've worked with the Agency before, and they're well regarded.

* You were friends back in training, before the Agency recruited you. This could be military, law enforcement, or some weirder school: decide the details between you.

* They pulled you (and maybe your team) out of a terrible FUBARed mission.

Jordan
@Passable Writer
Specifics: I imagined stepping in at a really rough moment at some time, even if it was a right-place-right-time situation. Feel free to offer any suggestions.

* You got sent to "deal with them" as a hazard to the Agency's policies one time. Tell them how you resolved them.

Dr. Marion Lovelace
@TokyoPewpew
Specifics: There was a time when it was believed she was getting too close to a creepypasta mission, and Julie was sent to see just how close she was. Thankfully, she actually wasn't involved.
She snickered at his jumpy attitude, though she said nothing else, and permitted him to take over the conversation. She wasn't quite sure where this was going to lead them, though she imagined, even before he began talking, that this place known as "Bleeding Kansas" gave everyone an opportunity to start over... even gunmen like him.

As he told his story, she just sat there and listened. Her eyes remained focused on her team and what lay ahead of them, though her ears were completely attentive. At the first half of his story, she smirked at him as she looked at him sideways with her hazel-green eyes. "Well, aren't you just the modern Robin Hood, complete with a Sheriff of Nottingham goin' up on your tail." She pulled on the reins as her team threatened to wander off the trail. "Yeah, I hear what the call this place. Seems from what I just saw that it's a right good name for itself."

Up ahead, she saw a collection of buildings, and could only guess it was the next town. "You familiar with this place?" she asked him.
Sorry for the late response. For my color, I think I'll go with 8dc73f.

I'm gonna play some catch up, and will contribute to the history as well.
I dunno Tokyo. Reading your application really makes me wanna overhaul mine with more flavor.

Ha! Me too.
She turned her head in time to catch him walking after her. Oh, he really is taking the offer up for the ride, came a stray thought. The goal had been to show him kindness and reveal she wasn't a threat - better a few insults to the back than a bullet to the brain. At the very least, she didn't want to end up like that deputy. At his final relenting, she just tsk'd at him. "Using the Lord's name in such a low way like that? And around a lady? Well I suppose I can't complain too much. Must be how they do it where you come from."

As they caught up and continued the conversation, she just giggled at his comment. "High and civilized? Me? Oh, you do a lady a kindness!" She giggled as she continued her way towards a wagon. "Though there are some folks out east who would have a mighty big disagreement with that. Well, if you feel ever so frightened about what someone might think of us together, how about you let me do all the talkin'? I mean, since you find my way of speakin' all mannered, and all." She made her way from the field towards her wagon, which the man would find to be a rather plain one. It looked like so many that had already gone out to Oregon or California, or now, as it was, to Kansas. She crawled up onto the driver's side and readied her reins. "Careful now, my team spooks easy."

If he were to get up and look inside the covered area, he would find some simple crates inside. The tops were loose and could be easily moved out of the way to look inside. There was a small carrying case, no doubt with her clothes and the like. Otherwise, it was nothing terribly exciting - at first glance.

Her hazel, almost green eyes looked out to the sunset he had glanced to not a moment before. "Besides, it's gettin' to be dark. You don't want to be out and about in the dark, do you?" She slapped the reins, and her team started up. "All sorts of things come out at night - and I don't just mean the animals! I was heading to town anyway. Might do you some good to find a place to rest." Her eyes shifted over to him. Truth be told, she was also unsure what to make of him. He had just murdered a man, and she recognized him as William Davie, she was uncertain if he was all that dangerous that some made him out to be. He seemed almost... quite agreeable.

"So... is it okay if a curious lady asks exactly what sort of argument led to... how I found ya?"

The code you see in the CS Framework references other locations in the sheet, where words are marked with numbers.

I got it. I hid it in my character sheet.
@Antarctica, now I just feel dumb. Sorry, I misunderstood and missed some of that because I was reading on my small phone.

Fixed. I think.
I am going to assume you want us to post our CS in the OOC first?

Edit: also I decided on The Spooky :)

Crud, did I mess up? I saw the "Post your character sheet in the CHAR section of the thread" part in the general rules. I ended up choosing the Professional because I saw others wanted the Monster in the other thread, but I will gladly switch things up and edit as need be.
