The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

The suspicion of Callie and the rest of the pilots was well-founded, and their vigilance paid off. As the shuttle was on the verge of entering the bay, the situation took an abrupt twist. A bulk freighter exiting one of the other bays and chugging along, minding its' own business erupted into a brief globe of flame and debris, followed by another at one of the other docking umbilicals. Immediately the communications channels were filled with flash emergency reports as other ships were forced to change course, and emergency responders mobilised. The task force were sternly ordered to 'stand by'.
Within only moments of that message, the situation took a hostile turn. Another bulk ore carrier ignited its' engines for a burn, changing it's access and building momentum, diving on its' relative axis toward the open bay, and the approaching task force mobile suits and shuttle. A few moments after changing its' direction and accelerating, the huge bulk containers attached to the skeletal framework of the ship blew away with the help of explosive bolts, before their outer shells fragmented through the same means. From the clouds of expanding metal debris, the glow of thrusters and mono-eye lights preceded the lancing blasts of beam rifles and gunfire as a sextet of Gelgoog Marine-types, laded down and strapped with additional weapon systems emerged. Immediately they started opening fire, driving toward the bay entrance in a hail of weapons-fire. Additional fire and distress reports started to come in from other areas, further from the bay entrance and the docking areas.

All of this unfolded in mere seconds, a cascade of events that toppled like an avalanche. As the space around them that had been previously peaceful, if busy, was now a canopy of explosions and disintegrating spacecraft and infrastructure.
"Holy shit," muttered Callie as she grimaced, setting her jaw. "Time to get our game on," she said to herself, before calling out to the rest of the unit, even as the message came from the command shuttle to do the same thing:
"Spread out, engage the hostile mobile suits and make sure the shuttle gets to safety. Protect the civilian ships as much as possible. If we can capture one of the pilots, so much the better!"
Yep, will be doing just that today
Checking in, how is everyone doing?

Have been otherwise occupied the last few days, but intending to work on my character today
@Apollosarcher Thanks, glad to hear there's still room for me to join in.
The shades of an idea I've got so far is playing somebody who's human, male, and not necessarily a Vault Dweller, but perhaps the descendant of one from a Vault that opened earlier, so maybe second-generation, and inherited a pip-boy. Their normal occupation would be wandering the wastes and doing something that's kind of a cross between a cartographer and a scavenger/salvager for hire. Charting out what or who has risen up in various former towns or other urban areas, exploring ruins and finding new settlements etc and making maps for others to use, as well as recovering useful supplies, tools, weapons, etc.

Generally sort of an affable, good-natured sort of person, as I prefer playing that kind of character and it makes them easier to interact with a group (plus I got over my edgy phase a long time ago, lol). Pretty much on the good alignment, but not above making bad people pay for what they've done in spades, and with little sympathy for bullies or cruel-hearted folks ('good is not nice, or stupid')
Nothing OTT for weapons, just a couple of reliable and versatile weapons; a .45 handgun and a rifle that's good for long and medium ranges, and an axe or knife. Maybe a couple of other goodies if/when the opportunity arises, but not on the regular. Some decent enough armour. The kind of gear born from experience and knowing what fits, rather than for taking on everything and anything, or trying to overthrow nations.

The part I need to hammer down and refine is a background that fits in, really; just need to brush up on my lore and especially so for this particular iteration of Fallout as related to the RPG and what would fit.
Hey there - this RP caught my eye, and after reading the characters that have already been posted, I'm really interested.
Are you still accepting new players? I'd like to join in if you are, although it might take me a while to come up with a character that's on par. I have the bones of an idea, I just need to flesh them out a bit more. Even if I can't join in, I'll be following along out of interest!
Woo, finally got a post up, and I'm pretty pleased with it, all things considered. Sorry it took me so long to do, but I got my mojo back. It's got us ready to drop, and I'm keen to move to the next bit and into the action :D
The hours had passed pretty uneventfully; Case and Elisha had taken up the offer of cards from Logan, with Rarden joining in a few rounds later. One by one they played out the game, but moved onto chatting sociably about home, families, friends and past adventures and generally shooting the shit as soldiers are wont to do. Most of the team slept on and off, here and there.

When Max came to wake Silver, the silver foxes' eye opened calmly as the lion approached, and he nodded at his 2IC's words.
"Cool. Thanks for the wakeup call, Bastion." He gave a wry smile as he stood, stretching a little and wincing as several somethings popped and clicked. Sotto voce, he raised an eyebrow and spoke to the lion. "A'tween you an' me, while I might well be fightin' fit an' all, I sure as hell ain't as young as I useta be, an' all these war wounds take a toll. I'd be mighty glad if the next big GEAR innovation is findin' a way to fit a proper bed inside a cockpit..."
Adopting a more formal and commanding voice and posture, he straightened and addressed Python team. "Ladies, gents, an' any of the rest of y'all, mount up. The barn door is openin' soon, and the crew of this here fine aircraft have decided they're bored of our company, so it's comin' up on time to leave. Unfortunately, that means the air is leavin' with us, so pack up your crap and get in your GEARs, post haste!"
Most of Python were already at work, Catriona having chivvied them along in her position as 'commander when Silver or Max aren't around', with Case being a little slow and still blinking sleep from his eyes, but slogging away nonetheless. The fox felt a flush of pride at his little group for doing so well without his need to poke them, before turning to his own business. He took his helmet in hand and slid it on, buckling the chinstrap before climbing into the GEAR's cockpit. Red standby lighting illuminated the inside before he hit the power as the cockpit hatch closed around him and the cool blue-green lights of holographic displays swimming to life in the air around him replaced the crimson glow.
External views showed the rest of Python team slinging their gear into storage compartments and webbing on their machines, and assisting Viper with stowing the last of the equipment into the ground vehicle or external storage. Fist-bumps and high-fives were exchanged, before the GEAR pilots mounted up, hatches closing one by one.
"Sound off, Python"
"Burner, all systems green"
"Lowdown, everything in the green"
"Red, reading all good"
"Riser, all systems nominal"
"Fantastic. Bastion, how's it looking on your end?"
As he said this, the aircraft gave a slight rumble, and the hatch at the rear cracked open, and the lights inside the bay snapped to red lighting. A sliver of dark, but slowly lightening sky painted with a brush of stars appeared and grew bigger as the ramp folded down to reveal the pre-dawn inky night skies.
"Python all ready for drop. Standing by"
@TateNo worries, my dude. Not a rush at all, as I like to keep things casual rather than formal. This is supposed to be fun after all xD
@mattmanganonLooks excellent to me, feel free to add him to the characters tab, and then dive into the IC!

Thanks everyone for the IC posts so far, good to see things flowing and characters in action. Keep 'em coming and I'll keep things moving as soon as I can too.
I was not especially well over the weekend, and things got on top of me. However! I shall make a post tomorrow to keep us going, as I'm well overdue to make one >.>
