Nice. I’ll approve so long as the team isn’t super broken. I’ll allow for “stronger” Pokémon (I did give myself a Garchomp lol) but you are free to give them drawbacks. I.e. Tyson’s Garchomp not knowing its own strength or forgetting he isn’t a Gible anymore.
@Kuro I like this take! If you want to add onto it, I could see Enid meeting Professor Magnolia while behind bars and the professor plays a role in getting Enid out and/or accepted to the Institute.
Tyson smirked as he stepped out of the break room and felt the heat of Mt. Battle's magma wash over him. He couldn't remember the last time he'd gotten this far in the hundred battle challenge. With the final arena before him, and the red-haired youth began the descent into the volcano's crater. The nine previous area leaders stood on the outer railing cheering him on. It was always a big deal when anyone had got to challenge Battlus. The hulking figure of the Mt. Battle Master stood menacingly across the arena. In spite of his intimidating size, there was a large grin across his face.
"Tyson, my boy! Good to finally see you back home! Think this will be the day you finally take me down?" Battlus let out a laugh that could have shook the entire mountain. "If it's anything like the old days, I'll take your little dragon out with one earthquake."
"You'll be wishing for the old days soon, Battlus. I've got a secret weapon of my own now," said Tyson as his grip tightened around Ace's PokeBall. The mega ring on his left arm glinted in the afternoon sunlight. This was the ultimate sign of his growth as both a trainer and professor. His bond with Ace was stronger than ever since they mastered Mega Evolution. With this win, Tyson and Ace would go down as legends in the Orre Region.
"Very well! Let's battle!" Battlus threw his PokeBall and the air seemed to get heavier as his Salamance crashed onto the field. The blue dragon opened her mouth before Tyson even had a chance to send out Ace. Instead of a mighty roar however... she was beeping?!

"AGH-" was all Tyson was able to shout as he fell out of bed and crashed to the floor of his apartment. The piercing sound of his alarm clock cut through his grogginess long enough for him to slam his fist down on the snooze button. Fuming about missing out on his dream, Tyson was about to go back to sleep when he saw the time: 7:30 AM. "Crap! First day of classes!" Tyson rushed through the apartment, pulling on his clothes, brushing his teeth, and trying to gather his papers for the semester all at once. Classes started at eight o'clock sharp every day at the Laventon Institute. Being late for a new semester was one thing, but it was his fourth and final year. Given his track record for being disorganized and distracted, Tyson couldn't afford giving the faculty any reason to assume he was backsliding.
Running into the kitchen area, Tyson almost tripped over Coro who was curled up on his bed. "Sorry, buddy," said Tyson as he grabbed a Red Tauros from his refrigerator. The Flaaffy just yawned and turned himself over; not caring about his trainer's early morning struggle. Shoving the drink into his messenger bag, Tyson grabbed his lab coat from the rack before bolting out the door. He wouldn't need his full team today since he would mostly just be holed up in classrooms. If he was lucky he might be able to get some battle research with Ace and Moxie on the Institute battle courts during lunch.
Upon reaching the street, Tyson briefly considered sending out Ace for a quick joyride to campus. Despite the fourth year student apartments only being a short walk from the school grounds, a mach one flight through the streets might save him fifteen minutes. Good judgement won out however and the would-be professor just decided to book it.
Tyson thankfully made it to campus with ten minutes to spare. He didn't bother checking his schedule for his first class because it was one he'd been dreading since getting his first semester schedule during vacation: TA Pokémon Ecology 101 w/ Professor Birch. It wasn't a BAD class, but it usually meant dealing with a bunch of cocky first years or third/fourth years who'd been getting lax with their credits. Not to mention, being a TA to Professor Birch meant getting subjected to the same corny jokes he made every year. Tyson sighed and cracked open his Red Tauros. It was going to be a VERY long first period.
"Good morning, class," said Tyson as he stepped through the classroom door. Already he could see his suspicions about the class were correct. First years in the front, older students in the back. Some of the latter already had their Rotom Phones out; likely planning their next research trip or something else more interesting. "Ahem... I'm one of your TA's this semester. Tyson Redwood. To those of you who are new, welcome to the Laventon Institute. Unfortunately, Professor Birch won't be joining us in person this week. He's been called on assignment to the Hoenn Region for business regarding Rusturf Tunnel digging. He'll be joining us via Varoom today." Tyson booted up the computer and turned on the video chat app. Professor Birch appeared on the screen with his goofy bearded grin.
"Hello, students. Before we start, I want you all to know that... yes. I am that Professor Birch who got attacked by a Poochyena on RoTube. It was very funny, so let's get it out of the way now." Tyson just slumped in his chair in the corner. First corny joke down.
"It's time to lock in! Let's show them our bond, Ace!"
Full Name: Tyson Redwood
Age: 25
Year at the Institute: Fourth Year
Favorite Color: Red
Thesis Subject: From Shadows to the Light of Mega Evolution: The Bonds Between People and Pokémon
Appearance: Hailing from the oven that is the Orre region, Tyson isn't one for layers. He rarely wears his Institute-issued labcoat unless it's required (I.e. Attending Class). He does his best to put up a polished and professional front for his fellow students, but his chaotically messy side usually comes through. His two most treasured possessions are his Pokémon HQ Lab jacket and his Mega Ring which he keeps on his person at all times.
Personlity: To the outside observer, Tyson epitomizes the word "slacker". He struggles to be on time, his notes are a mess, and he sometimes forgets key details when presenting to his professors or fellow students. In spite of this, Tyson has managed to stay near the top of his class for most of his tenure at the Laventon Institute! Even though he struggles in a classroom environment, Tyson shines when it comes to fieldwork. Whether he's on a research trip, practicing on the Institute's battle court, or just out interacting with Pokémon, it's hard not to notice Tyson's passion and hard work. Even the hardest teachers at the Institute have admitted Tyson is one of the more talented individuals to attend the Laventon Institute in recent years. If only he'd put the same level of effort into his class assignments...
Bio: Tyson grew up on the streets of Pyrite Town in the Orre Region. Despite criminal organizations like Team Snagem and Cipher having been kicked out ages ago, Pyrite was still a rough place to grow up. In the wake of Cipher's heist of the S.S. Libra cargo ship, Pyrite had become flooded with black market shadow Pokémon. A young Tyson overheard a passing conversation between two thugs about a "rare Shadow Pokémon" that had escaped transport and taken up residence in the nearby cave Poke-Spot. Determined to claim it for himself, Tyson ventured alone into the cave armed with Poké Balls and bait. It didn't take long before a pair of glowing red eyes appeared in the darkness. The dim light revealed a tiny shark-like creature: a Gible!
The little dragon was covered in various injuries. Initially, Tyson attempted to bait it out, only to encounter a Dragon Rage for his troubles. After a struggle—and several bite marks—Tyson managed to capture the Gible. He quickly presented it to Pyrite's mayor, Duking, demanding a way to help his new Pokémon. Duking took the boy to the Pokémon HQ Lab, where, after a few days in the purification chamber, Gible was cleansed of the shadow. The head of the lab, Professor Krane, expressed interest in Tyson's skills after observing how dedicated he was to seeing Gible's recovery. He offered Tyson a spot as a research fellow at the lab, which the youth quickly accepted.
Over the next several years, Tyson and Ace—his nickname for Gible—became an inseparable duo. They would work together in the lab during the day and climb the ranks of Mt. Battle at night. Things took a turn when a stranger showed up to Mt. Battle with an odd-looking bracelet. Tyson watched as the stranger's Ampharos was transformed before his eyes! Tyson had just experienced Mega Evolution.
The idea that Pokemon could become even stronger consumed Tyson. He poured himself into learning everything he could about this new phenomenon. It wasn't long before Professor Krane suggested Tyson attend the Laventon Institute in Sinnoh to further his study. He already had a mountain of data on bonds between trainers and Pokemon thanks to his research into Shadow Pokemon. Tyson quickly put his thesis together and applied to the Institute. He was shocked when the acceptance letter arrived at the Pokemon HQ Lab.
In the years since arriving at the Laventon Institute, Tyson has been able to travel, discover Pokemon, and have experiences he'd never dreamed of if he stayed in Orre. He's even gotten the chance to travel to the Kalos Region and study Mega Evolution under Professor Sycamore! Tyson believes Mega Evolution may be the key to permanently unlocking a Pokémon's heart and prevent Shadow Pokémon from ever occurring again.
Ace - Garchomp (M) Bio: Tyson's first ever Pokémon which he met when it was a rogue Shadow Gible. No one in Orre knows who brought Ace to Orre since he wasn't mentioned on any of the S.S. Libra's shipping records. Nevertheless, Ace is devoted to his trainer for finding and purifying him. Since attending the LI, Tyson has acquired a Mega Ring and a Garchompite allowing Ace to evolve further into Mega Garchomp! Despite being fully evolved, Ace sometimes forgets his own size and strength and acts like he's still a Gible. (This usually gets Tyson crushed) Nature: Hasty Characteristic: Highly Curious
Coro - Flaaffy (M) Bio: Caught during a research trip to the Johto Region. Coro was an unusually round Mareep that was unable to run away when Tyson threw his Poke Ball. Since evolving into a Flaaffy, Coro has thinned out and taken a more active role in Tyson's research. Nevertheless, Coro prefers to eat and sleep more than anything. Nature: Calm Characteristic: Takes Plenty of Siestas
Moxie - Houndoom (F) Bio: Tyson received Moxie as a gift from his friends at Mt. Battle prior to departing for the Sinnoh Region. Despite her fierce appearance, Moxie has taken the role of being a "mom" to Tyson. She'll often nudge him to remember certain tasks or things when he gets distracted or is about to lock his keys in his dorm. Nature: Serious Characteristic: Likes to Run
Quirks: - When Tyson really needs to focus, he'll often yell that he's "locking in". This was his battle cry on Mt. Battle and it reminds him of home. - Tyson has a slight crush on Sinnoh's Champion Cynthia. Ace likewise has a crush on Cynthia's own Garchomp. The two will usually hog the TV if her battles are being broadcast. - It took the Laventon Institute a year and a half before finally trusting Tyson with a Mega Ring AND a Garchompite for his research. He's currently awaiting new mega stones for the rest of his team.
