I just finished The Secret History, a very Gen X book. Never Let Me Go before that, which I'd recommend to any writer outside the MFA atmosphere who wants to know emotonal restraint.

You don't make characters first on this site. You make a RP or join a RP, and then make a character for that RP.
Our roleplays are divided into general writing level; Free (short and sweet) Casual (longer but not exactly lengthy posts; "read and react" posting, not a lot of development of character and/or plot required), Advanced (lengthy posts, lots of plot and character development, and crafting posts in such a way that gives other players something to work with).
Pick a level, go to their Interest Checks, and start hunting for a RP you want to join.

For some reason I can't get the idea of a comic book 1x1 out of my head. Probably because I've seen too many Marvel movies recently. My love of comics goes back to regional comic conventions discovered in the back of Wizard and the stacks of long boxes hidden in my closet as a girl. I love writing, and have been on the Guild for...I don't know. Maybe actually a decade by now. Way too long, either way. ^_^
My role on the Guild has gradually become less roleplayer and more storyteller over the years. It's been a blast, and very educating, but I'm ready to get back to some pure roleplay now.
I don't have a particular plot and/or story idea yet. It's more my style to find someone who wants to write with me on the given genre, and come up with characters and story together. As for the other "staples" of 1x1 play...Romance, 18+ play, etc, can all be hashed out in PMs between perspective partners and I.
DC, Marvel, other, I'm pretty open minded. Heck, I'd even do Wild Cards. lol

We just had a GoT game close down, but if this interest check doesn't pan out, you might try Gowi's game. I think it said it was GoT inspired.

Considering how long Interest Checks can linger on Advanced...rarely needs to be done, unless you're looking to recruit more.
