Description:Summer as her friends call her was born in the Paha Sapa (Black Hills) her father was a Lakota man her mother Vietnamese American, Caucasian mix which causes many people to become confused when they discover this bit of trivia and ask about her name forcing her to tell how her grandmother was evacuated out of Nam and adopted by a nice couple named the Wanamakers in Montana; she usually ends by calling herself a proper american mutt.

She is a small thing and many who see her at a distance think her a 14-year-old girl because of it.

History:Summer was born in Rattlesnake Butte South Dakota where her mother ran a little Outdoor store supplying the sportsmen who came through the area and hers was a good life even though all she knew of her father was that he was Lakota Sioux and when she was older her mom would tell her who he was.

She was small and children her age were always picking on her so she instead spent time with several senior citizens who lived near her home forming friendships with them quickly. One such friend was an old woman whom everyone around called a witch and stopped by to by natural tinctures for healing from her. Rain’s mother welcomed the older woman’s help with so active a child allowing her to even take Rain to the Lakota Dances or out gathering wild herbs and fungi.

Kusi (Grandmother) showed her the secrets of the lands and how to watch the animals in strange land to see what it was that they ate as food or as medicine which Summer absorbed and wanted more.

Then when Summer was just 10 years old the world fell apart as if under attack by the Skinwalkers of the Navajo legend while she and Kusi were at home brewing something to kill a rash on an old man named Frank. Her mom made it to her and Kusi’s side and at first they barricaded themselves in hping to wait it out but when that went to hell her mother and Kusi decided to make an escape south and loaded the car.

South proved blocked and the number of Risen terrible so they were slowly pushed north till one day the car was low on gas and her mom went looking for more only to be killed by a horde of Risen just in sight of the car.

She was alone in the world except for an old Kiowa woman in her late 70’s she called Kusi but somehow a little girl and an old woman made it all the way to Mount Hood and ran into The Band of Lasthope who took them.

Kusi whose name turned out to be Eve Yellow Snake was also a Professor of Herbology / Apothecary and Licensed Acupuncturist was at first treated as a fragile flower because of her age and the old woman wouldn’t hear of it and took Summer with her hunting up the makings of medicines which at first were looked on with suspicion till some desperate people took a chance and found she knew what she was doing; Summer studied under Kusi till she died two years ago.

Summer’s talent with the Ravens made Kusi nervous and tell her to be careful because the birds stole sparkly things. It had all started when she was just 12 she discovered her favorite Raven pushed out of his nest by his three siblings naming him Touching Cloud because he was completely White and because at that time was the only Lakota she knew that said cloud.

Mahpiya Iyapato or Touching Cloud was what Kusi called him was hand raised and even taught to fly by a little girl who talked more to him than her own kind. Now in no time, the local Ravens including his siblings and parents saw him getting fat and happy hanging out with one of the people of the land and eventually came down demanding her attention and care. So many of the Black Birds followed Summer around town and the woods so much and in such numbers that people wondered if they had found something dead, several young patrol leaders had ridden to see what the birds had found only to see a little elfen girl holding court surrounded by the huge birds. They watched as the birds brought her sparkling gifts and she rewarded them with meat at first then later a special blend of mild sausage she smoked just for them made of rich internal organs, cornmeal and nuts.

The superstitious in town had started calling Summer a Witch so by the age of 14 so her Kusi decided to create a circle and induct her into the arcane arts tutoring her in how to be a Witch, Natural healer, Languages (she speaks 9), Literature, Music, and Singing.

Too small for the Troops or military service of any kind Summer was dismissed of duties when she turned 16 and never had to attend boot camp like all her peers which bothered her because she called Lasthope her home like everyone else. She wasn’t considered needing a horse so unlike her peers, she was a foot and often some of the meaner ones laughed as the rode past her all proud and high. Their smirks and accusing looks made Summer determined to find herself a wild horse and disappeared over the Mountain for two weeks finally showing back up with a yearling Appaloosa as well as a huge sack filled with herbs, mushrooms and various other plant and minerals. 

She used her found horse and the important medicinals as leverage to be allowed out with the Companies and even sometimes has an escort on her hunts for goods. Then when an observant Patrol Leader noticed that she could predict the weather, knew if it was people or Risen nearby and the birds could find her the things she wanted he reported it to his commander. 

She was tested and it was found that as long as her birds were around few could sneak up on her as their sharp eyes caught the slightest movement outdoors so she was Rang back into the Troops as a Specialist like the Techs and Docs but still due to her small size she knew she’d never be a fighter and focused on other things such as learning how to give a horse a massage or caring for the leather the troops relied on.

Apothecary: Summer is able to brew, find and identify plants and minerals fit for many uses 
Ravens Warder: Care, Training, and other odd things needed to do her job 
Performing arts: Summer plays both guitar and fiddle, she dances and sings and is an excellent actress and mimic though male voices she has difficulty with
