Bio

Role Play Preferences:[/b] Pretty much everything except playing other characters and most slice of life plots. Elastic on most shit.

Fandoms: Silent hill, Homestuck, Bioshock(1-2) and pretty much all of HP lovecraft's stuff.

Personality: Ambiguously ?????????????????.

Favorite Homestuck characters: In order: Eridan, Karkat, gamzee, John.

Hate kanaya and Jade.

My Homestuck class: Bard of Void

Likes: Scented Candles, Writing, RP'ing-in almost any form really. Even if I haven't tried it before- Pixel Art, Making things period, Dressing up in my mad mass. Talking to folks. <3 that understand what I say all the time without me having to tame my tongue.

Dislike: Political talk-light prods for opinions are fine though if private- Being tied down. Talking about myself too much. Playing party therapist, Edgy shit.

Pretty approachable, most of the time I'm all fine with, motherfucking. dancing down a door way to someone else grounds to chill. I tend to either be chilling or drilling the oil out of the works so random absence or silences are a normal.

I hate when I rant about things I'm not actually angry about. Like Bioshock deeper meaning. A game I haven't played in 2 years and can barely remember because I have actual Real life issues like my possible future, my income and shelter all being on the table for the bartering of doing what I feel need to. Why the hell am I being obtuse on a public board.

@SleepingSilence

Good commentary. I think you got a point there. I think though that some pride in your geographic race- as in your area. Such as England- is healthy as a sign of the capacity of the culture to overcome adversity. While I have no strong support for collectivism, I do believe that individuals are touched by the culture they are in. More out of proximity than anything and psyche associations/ need for group validation.

Looking at your past not as a sign as an obligation to your home land nor genetic traits but as a sign that your home land is as strong as the individuals in it, and you are woven from the same hardy folk isn't bad. As long as it's a decoration to your self, rather than say put before it or considered key part of it.
@Dinh AaronMk

The classware happened because two people came into play to destroy it. In this fake universe Rapture did create a utopia and there go proved itself to be the ultimate ideology. It was right, in this universe it succeeded in its mission. It beat everyone on wealth, living standards, technology and art in a ten year period. What killed Rapture was that it had one regulation. Nothing may come in from outside or go outside.If you end up in rapture you can't leave and you can't have things from the outside world. This is how fontane started the whole entire criminal coup, while also establishing himself as fontane. The guy who made plasmids and ignored it's genetically addictive state.

Fontane then basically gained control over most if not all the charity houses. In order to use them, which is how he got a lot of the poor addicted to plasmids and in his pocket as usurpers. Then Ryan basically has a break down and decides to turn the place into national state. Hence he nationalized places in service of rapture/ himself such as turning museums in order to promote his isolationist campaign- to scare kids of the surface- and then double down on the one rule that created all this mess.

he also took away people who spoke bad about rapture and commissioned songs like "Rise rapture rise"

In this story. A man led people into a pot, offering them freedom. Then he put the lid on (no outside work, items or people nor may you leave) and then turned on the stove as a way to "filter out" the none believers who might side with Atlas/fontane.

There are a lot of things wrong with this story:

Rapture had a minimalist state. Which meant it still had a government and they still had basic health and safety concerns. Why dosen't selling genetic material that makes you crazy and literally melt your flesh fall under this very basic, minimal regulation ideas. Who knows. Apparently free market= anarchy capitalism now.

2: How did ryan achieve all of this corruption. He lives in a place filled with guns and super humans, in a cramped conditions. And gave public talks. You're telling me one guy couldn't lift a revolver and shot him near point blank from a crowd while he was in the process of pissing off everyone to start a civil war.

The point is trying to make is.....it's a story. It dosen't matter if Bioshock portrayed anything positive or negative. If stories validated philosophies every religion in the world would of created utopia by now. It captures spirit and personality fine but I think if anyone takes these games as an anything else they're looking for "prove" for something that isn't there.

I'm nerding a bit vindictively here. RL pissing me off, specifically about philosophy so I might be over doing it. I'll stop here.

On on your actual point. Yeah. It did capture Ayn Rand...uhh...style. I think it's one of things where. People have certain moral concerns as a person and Ayn Rand or Bioshock would tap into it. These people were probably leaning to libertarians due to their personal concerns and values, it's just these things help articulate their worries and issues.

Everyone is something these days on the internet. Unless they actually take steps to practice it in real life I wouldn't take them seriously.

This is a weird thing to piss me off but Bioshock and politics/ philosophy. Whenever I try to watch something bioshock related it's all "Oh. Masterful rebuttal of Ayn Rands stupid ideas lol" or in the case of number 2 how it criticizes collectivism and using the poor.

No one actually pays attention to bioshock plot because if they did they'd understand that the game doesn't make any points for or against Objectivism- hell I'm not even sure it actually practiced objectivism. Mostly on its charity crap but fuck it...read her work or visit an objectivist forum if you want to judge for yourself- Rapture only started falling apart when Ryan turned away from his ideals and tried to essentially make it into a nationalist, big government state.

Yes it had a crime problem but that wasn't a direct result of its capitalism or loose regulation more than it was artificially allowed to thrive due to its isolationist law. Which is ironic, that one of its only laws is the one that instigates and cages all the disputes into one big organized, criminal coup. If anything I could turn around and go "See, rapture in ten years leaped ahead above all other nations and governments following objectivitm and only fell when big government stepped in. Aided, of course by a crook manipulating the poor. There go Ryand speech about big authority and shallow altruism proved true"

I could...but I won't. Because that's stupid. What made bioshock 1 and 2 good was that the whole thing was about both a city and the people in it trying to live up to their ideals. In real life, I don't care who you are or what ideals or even philosophy you follow. Life both supports it and is against it, that's life. It dosen't treat cities no different that it treats people. What gave rapture...a city...so much personality was that both wore the accomplishment of life struggle to stand by those ideals and the disfigurements.

Bioshock shouldn't be used as an impulse cash in of on how "left or right" were incorrect. It should be used as an example of how to combine people to their ideology and yet still make them flawed and fragile humans, yet heroes/villains by living to their convictions in terms of writing. It is a warning, that dreams are worth fighting for but no man can fight forever and not become disfigured.
@ScreenAcne
Every time someone puts me through what they been through, I imagine ten years from now, I probably adopted a kid of my own, and this person tried to aggress on my son/daughter and when I catch them they'd probably justify "this is what I went through! Where was anyone when I needed help?"

Then my mind goes back to present day and I'm like, "Nope, if you know it's awful, you offer advice to others. Not emulate the scenario via demonstration." and peel off the toxic band-aid that is their negativity in my life.

YOU NEED A BETTER SOCIAL CIRCLE, MAN. You're free to start with me as a skipping stone. //grand "hug me" gesture

Pair. That entire thing was just linkin park lyrics and titles.

But yeah. I'll send you a PM and we can chill out. I love talking to people about stuff from clothes to ideas.
@Pair of Hearts

It makes me want to take everything from the inside and throw it all away. It always end up with them going "I swear this is the last time I will trust myself with you" I mean, I can feel the anxiety crawling in my skin. It makes me scared and I have to use that fear to fight. I try to tell them not to turn their back on me because I won't be ignored you know but it seems that no matter how hard I try, all it will eventually will be a memory of a time I tried so hard.

I mean...there are points of authority, I know you can only live what you learned but I don't see why they got put others what they been thru. It gets so over the top that my pride is broke and it feels like my life is also broken. It really wants to make me forfeit the game.

You know what I hate. Not just in RPs but in all online conversation on the web, but this extend to RP still. It's the wait for people to reply, no not reply to your post I mean they replied but you still got to read it. That wait. Especially when you see that BIG 1 on your alert for a forum or thread and as soon as you see it it's like opening an envelope but there's no details on front.

In real life I can pick up a letter and deduce if it's taxes or something bad but on the internet in general it's like you get a bunch of mystery packages and you secretly hope that one of them isn't a crazy ex threatening you in slurs with her own menstrual blood. It's the same in a forum or RP, you get a notification from a GM or something and immediately the theme from count down starts ticking in your head as you go "Oh shit. I've been kicked for accidentally offending someone or coming off as disingenuous haven't I" or some guy dive rolls out of the blue to argue with your use of binary sex labels or some crap.
Due to the overall silence on the board and PMs. I'm giving this it's final bump. If by tonight nothing happens I will declare this closed and cancelled.

If people do show up but I don't think we have enough numbers, I got a back up, simpler plot in the same universe that those people are welcome try on a 1 on 1, slower basis.
Hey guys. Things have been a little silent for the last couple of days for everyone. The only CS submitted so far is Airbenders. Because a lot can go on offline for folks and online between silences, if any of you have decided to drop out or simply haven't had a chance to really get on your cs yet or can't think anything or get to their laptops.

Let me know in a PM, I can work with whatever and happy to do so but want to keep updated on everything. Keep in mind that I'm very new to GM'ing so I'm not going to suss out what period of silence is indicative or lost interest or what a normal time that period people typically take to get something done between. So constant updates every now and then is really appreciated to help me organize stuff on my end.

I might talk a bit weird. I'm a bit brain addled by a head fever.
@Dinh AaronMk

Yeah, true. I do recall normal folks wandering around the city of pripyat with little protection and Geiger counters. I might of been confusing the restrictions to the red forest because of leaf contamination/ hunting restrictions and fire prevention by keeping entrance minimal with a greater zone that included Chernobyl because they were both notable and I recall that still radioactive refuse littering a lot of the roads around it.

You're pretty up to date on this. Have you been there, are you planning on going?

If it's this easy to take a tour there. I wonder if you can get a permit to study it scientifically more easily than I thought.
<Snipped quote by TheMadAsshatter>

Last I checked there are a myriad of legal opportunities to visit the Zone. Found at least one listing for a two-day private trip for one under 400 dollars.

Of course you still need to get to Ukraine.

Yeah, this is true. Pripyat is a tour zone, I'm pretty sure that people do actually go there in order just to see it however there is an inner circle called the Exclusive Zone or something which contains the more notable Red Forest and Chernobyl itself is protected by arms forces. Attempts to approach it, I think are allowed to be meet countered with lethal force.

I haven't read on this for a while so it may be all my information is mixed up by my bad memory or out dated.

@TheMadAsshatter

Me too. I always had a dream of just travelling about as I please and always said that I would go by Pripyat when I have the chance. While Chernobyl is tragic, much like STALKER itself the ruins of the former soviet city do offer us insight itself the long term effects of radiation.

I imagine that someone with the right prestige and knowledge in radiology, ecology, physics or biology could gain access into the inner zone or even the infamous Elephants Foot but I doubt it would be very profitable or easy.

Me and my friend are dorks for the stalker series and been talking about what would be the most easiest form of DIY survivalist suit to make in an environment like that. So far, it consist of welding gloves, steel cap boots. Waterproof/anti-tear jump suit. Gas mask and looking into cheap body armor.

Maybe you should prepare a suit too, that place is still radioactive even in the tour friendly areas so putting together some clothing material that might lessen your rad intake at a cheap price while remaining comfortable could be a good idea. I mean, you know to bite the chance of any long term effects of unusual radiation, even small amount can have on your health....like cancer.

or maybe it isn't an issue. I'm a little out of it right now. I think I got a head cold.
