Max

Crafting had never been Max's thing, they were not an artistic person and didn't get much enjoyment in sitting in a chair making wind catchers or whatever the craft was. But they had promised their parents that they wouldn't skip out on activities, or the chance to make friends. They promised to try, so maybe they actually should. Max sighed softly and walked into the crafting canon, where there were plenty of kids already at work on various crafts. Max propped their skateboard against the wall to the left of the door, situated their bag on their shoulder, and looked around for an empty chair or part of bench to sit on. Max had no idea what they were going to do craft wise, but even just sitting there meant they were participating, right?

Max saw a redhead girl painting nearby, and saw an empty chair near here with some available paint and brushes. Why not? At least with paint, she could be a little more abstract. People did that, right? Max wouldn't admit it, but they were something of a perfectionist. She didn't like doing anything she was going to be bad at, but she also understood most things took practice. Still, there was a part of it that was just natural talent based, and Max didn't like looking stupid. She wasn't about to sit there and paint something that wasn't at least halfway decent. But what to paint? Walking over to the chair, she dropped her bag next to her and sat down.

"Hey, mind if I paint next to ya? I mean, it won't be nearly as good as that, though. This isn't really my thing," Max said with a small shrug and a frown, turning her head back to the paint in front of her. Maybe she should start with blue? Her favorite color was orange, but what could she paint with that other than a literal orange? She really wasn't very good at this. They felt awkward, and wished they could be skateboarding right now...or staring at the water. Maybe that's what they should paint, the beach. The beach had always been their happy place, when they didn't have their wheels underneath them. Max liked the way sand felt between their toes, most people didn't, but they did. It just relaxed her, watching the waves flow in and out, squishing sand with their feet and thinking about life.

"Any suggestions?" Max asked, turning to smile at the girl next to her. She usually had no problem making friends, and she liked talking to people. She just also had anxiety, and they always felt awkward, no matter how well they hid it with a smile.
