Well this is for what they'll know right away.

They can of course learn the rest of the moves through natural progression, or learn more moves from a TM, or other means. In the anime, Pikachu learned Iron Tail by being taught, not from a TM or learning naturally, so if there is someone who has a Pokemon that knows a move that another Pokemon can learn in their TM or natural moveset, that Pokemon can teach the other Pokemon how to use it.

How we decide when and such... Not quite sure yet.
So we're going to be going with all moves up to a certain level? I mean, of course they wouldn't have access to ALL the moves, and there's the factor that Pokemon learn moves faster when they haven't evolved.

So I think... They'll know the first x amount of moves.

Like say a 1st stage evolution of a 3-stage will know... The first 7-8 moves for reference. Then 2nd stage will know the next few, and so on. It'll be adjusted for how many evolutionary stages there are. Like for a non-evolving Pokemon they'll know a dozen or 10. One that evolves only once, will know 8 and then 12 or something like that.

You guys adjust the numbers if you like the idea. Note that they'll only know the first x number of moves from their natural moveset, even after evolving, so in some cases they may forget some moves. There are also unique cases were Pokemon only learn a few moves after evolving, like Umbreon or Espeon. In which case I don't see any problem in them learning all, except for the highest level move (there are also some that will in-game learn all right away without leveling, like ones evolved through stones besides Eeveelutions).
I'm not even co-GM. I was just part of a pretty well-designed Pokemon RP before this one. They actually thought of everything.

But we need to discuss level. Does our GM have an idea? Stats are easy enough, but we're going with the 4-moveset rule. In the RP I was in before, we would get the Pokemon's whole moveset available to use up to a certain level, so we had as many as a dozen moves.

So this is new, how do we handle the 4 moveset rule? Do we drop or keep level? How do we keep track of a Pokemon's growth? Questions.
Well, I'm going off of a d20.

If you roll a 1, it's dangerous as hell, you'll see high levels, but not just any. They're aggressive.

That said, you can ask for a different 'favorable' situation if a 20 is rolled, like rather than loads of commons, or lowered rarity, you can try and ask for a specific encounter.

It's just a little fun mechanic for adventuring.
I agree, although as an afterward we can consider rarity modifiers to certain routes.

Like you can roll for events when someone enters an area, and say you roll like a nat 20, there's loads of Pokemon everywhere and rarity goes down a notch, or roll a 1 and there's one apex predator/really powerful Pokemon roaming closer to the roads and is aggressive.

The first makes it easier to get what you want, the latter gives an opportunity, but it's crazy because of the difficulty.

Also people can ask if a Pokemon can be caught in a certain area, so we can bypass some blind spots with simple human interaction.

Also back to the topic of levels... Thinking...
I think the very first evolutions of the starters should be lower on the rarity, by principle that there would be far more of them than their evolved counterparts.
Wait, so you're going to be keeping track of even the stats?

I want you to think about this. When doing this for a couple people... It's manageable. Especially with 1-2 Pokemon each.

Now think about doing this for months and months and months, for well over a dozen to two dozen people, not to mention by that time, each person will reach 3-6 Pokemon in their party, meaning you'll be doing it 3-6 times more, multiplied with how many more players are going to be joining down the line.

You want a more simple and manageable system.
Can I meet my shiny Snivy on the way to Harport?

I'm also wondering how we'll be keeping track of level and leveling, because as an RP, it can get tedious keeping track of numbers like this.
Yeah, I'd like to know where the Grass and Fire starters are... Mostly grass.

I'm getting the feeling it's route 6 which is on Greenleaf... Which would make a lot of sense considering what kind of town Greenleaf is.
I think the starter's rarity depends on area though.

Like they may have a clear home in one route, but are sometimes seen wandering other routes.
