Scarlet Shadow was nearing the edge of the platform when she had taken notice of what the three who had broken through the nearby door were doing. She watched as a bizarre swirling shape of what looked to be water formed up, though from where she hung she wasn’t sure how. A powerful light suddenly struck the thief in the eyes causing her to curse and raise one hand impulsively to cover her eyes. Her other hand gripping furiously onto a small groove that protruded from the wall between two thin pieces of pipe.

The light seemed to grow brighter as Scarlet Shadow could hear the sound of rushing water from the center of the platform. "Stay behind me, let's go!" Scarlet Shadow felt a surge through her stomach and chest as she realized the group of three had the heart. The thief was still too far to simply vault onto the platform without falling and she couldn’t risk trying to charge through a cyclone of water with her super speed. Not to mention the blinding light.

“I guess I shouldn’t have taken the vents…”

Were the master thief not in such a precarious position she probably would’ve broken into a rage. So close… she seethed in her mind as she dropped her hand from her face, squinting her eyes tightly. There was nothing to be done at this point. She couldn’t even hope to get back through the vents and meet the trio at the intersection, and she certainly doubted she would get back outside the facility fast enough to chase down the group. Venom in her mind Scarlet Shadow began to shimmy back across the wall toward the vent from where she had come, beginning her exfiltration.

Scarlet Shadow had been warned about other intruders though she had assumed that the guards would have delayed them, needless was it to be said that she was surprised when she arrived in the grand chamber containing the heart only to be met immediately after with the sound of a nearby door being blasted. The explosion had caught her off balance and left a ringing in her right ear though the master thief hadn’t been completely disoriented. By the time the door had hit the floor Scarlet Shadow had taken to the walls, using the intricate metal structuring to shimmy along and grab hold of as she had cleared away from the vent where she had emerged from.

The intruders were a group of three individuals none of them recognizable to the thief. Scarlet Shadow watched as they stepped out on the platform, keeping still and compressed against a tubular pipe she was wrapped around. Even if they looked over the chamber she doubted they would see her, and if they did she doubted she would have any problem filching the heart from the grasp. Her super speed alone surely would be able to befuddle them and if not a well thrown flashbang would be enough to disable them.

The thief was considered her actions when her attention was drawn to a sound above, a loud crackling followed by a louder crumbling. Scarlet Shadow’s eyes widened as she saw the first chunk of ceiling break loose and come hurtling downward, missing her by quite a few feet. The rumbling of the elongated platform below and the collapsing ceiling paired with the shrieking of metal pained her ears. And then she saw it - the heart. It fell down onto the middle of the platform, the thief hearing angry shouts from above even over the destructive noises above and before her.

Jumping was not an option. She wouldn’t make it and would fall to her death. Going back was also out of the question. She had come this far and was literal meters away from the prize. There’s only one option…
Hanging onto the pipe with one arm Scarlet Shadow slipped two smoke grenades from her belt. She reached around the pipe and used her index finger of the hand she used to hang onto the pipe to pop loose the pins. Shifting around and using all her strength she awkwardly hurled the grenades towards the platform. One landed right next to the heart with a bounce, an immediate blast of smoke expelled outward and enshrouding the center of the platform. The other fell short and spiraled down toward the ooze below.

Scarlet Shadow grimaced and reached out toward a nearby shaft and lifted herself away from the pipe with a sharp grunt. Her only chance was to move as fast as she could around the wall and drop down onto the platform. If she had to she could throw more grenades as cover as she made her way to the heart. Even so she doubted she would beat the other intruders and was already mentally preparing herself for potentially forfeiting the prize. Everything or nothing. Scarlet Shadow - her only advantage her maneuverability and the short window of time the smoke screen was buying her - scrambled as fast as she could around the length of the wall towards the platform, opposite of the new arrivals.

Seeking Fantasy 1x1’s

I find myself craving fantasy and I seek partners to partake with me, though first some introduction is in order. I have been on the guild for just over a year but I have been text-based roleplaying for more than a decade now. I typically write from mid casual to low advanced, my posts vary from three to eight paragraphs on average. Quality precedes quantity with me but I promise no one-liners or low effort posts.

I am online basically everyday - at varying times - so maintained contact/interaction with my partner will not be a problem. My posting frequency ranges from daily to every couple of days, it mostly depends on my schedule. Likewise I am willing to work with my partner(s) in regard to their own schedule(s) and preferences, so no worries there!

A few other points:
- I only write IC in third person.
- I prefer to remain onsite to write. (Via the forums or through private message.)
- “Mature content” is acceptable but in adherence to guild rules it stays private of course. Otherwise fade to black.
- I am open to OOC communication through PM or on Discord. (Ask for my discord handle if interested.)

Synopsis: It has been twenty years since the death of King Nicholas of Avaraland and the fall of the Morain monarchy. For two decades now the Avaran people have lived under the rule of Magnus Aquila, Proconsul of Avaraland assigned by the Emperor of the Achedia Imperium. For two hundred years - since the dawn of the Third Age - the Avaran people and their kings lived obediently under Imperial rule. But now the Imperium has begun to crumble, the Imperial Council is rife with corruption and the current Emperor is indecisive and weak.

In an attempt to remove any symbols of independence and power separate of Achedia the Emperor demanded the abdication of provincial monarchies and other ruling nobility to further unification and assimilation of Imperial provinces. This paired with heightened taxation and increased troop garrison among other policies ensured alienation between the Emperor and many of his border provinces. King Nicholas of Avaraland was among those to resist and declared a secession from Achedia. As Avaraland prepared for war to defend it’s newly declared independence a plot was set to motion by Imperium loyalists.

On a rainy mid spring evening King Nicholas Morain, his wife Cara, and a number of his retainers were all murdered in the palace by a loyalist conspiracy. Only the King’s Grand General escaped the attack, fleeing in the night with Nicholas’ infant child swaddled in his arm. With the capital taken and the Morain lineage seemingly eradicated the conspirators were all granted territories across Avaraland, these various benefices all under the watchful rule of the new Proconsul.

Despite this there are those who have remained dedicated to the ideal of a separate Avaraland. For the past twenty years a rebellion has persisted against Achedian rule in the land, lead by Brion former Grand General of Avaraland. At his side are his own daughter, Fiona, and the heir of King Nicholas Morain now an adult. The rebellion over the years has waxed and waned with little ground to be shown and the King’s heir left in the shadows for their own safety. At least for a time. When the rebels are accosted by a traitor in their midst and their ranks scattered in the wind the young heir and Fiona must work together to reunite the rebellion and bring the fight to their oppressors directly.

OOC: In this RP my partner will role as the heir of the fallen King Nicholas Morain of Avaraland. My primary role will be as Fiona, daughter of Brion and best friend (and possible love interest) of the King’s heir. This will be a longterm RP as we write the story of the heir of the kingdom of Avaraland rising to lead the rebellion against Imperial rule and retaking the throne for their family and gaining independence for the kingdom. The road to freedom will be difficult as our characters will face endless challenges in their struggle to free the land and learn the true meaning of duty and kinship.

Synopsis: When a pair of travelers come upon an abandoned village they find it stripped to the last with no sign of anyone nor any hint of attack. The two make their way to Westhold Keep, home of Earl Castion lord of Westhold fief. Instead of clarity they find more questions to be answered. The keep is overflowing with people seeking refuge and the Earl has fallen deathly ill.

It is revealed that a dragon has been tormenting the hold, burning villages and fields and massacring an entire contingent of the Earl’s knights when challenged. To further worsen matters monstrous creatures prowl the countryside looting the abandoned villages and hunting down survivors and fleeing refugees. With no messengers able to make their way out of Westhold the Earl’s steward calls upon these two brave travelers to help the hold in it’s plight.

With little other avenue they agree and it is soon revealed that the arrival of the dragon, the creatures, and even the Earl’s sickness are more than just a random happening. All is part of a sinister plot to bring Westhold to its knees.

OOC: Straightforward in plot my partner and I will role as a pair of adventurers who have journeyed to Westhold in our travels. As described above our characters will make their way to Westhold Keep after initially finding the abandoned village mentioned. From there we will embark on a quest to save the ailing Earl and help rid his lands of the dragon and other menaces, unveiling a plot to subjugate Westhold and it’s people by a combination of force and cunning.

First we stole the fruits of knowledge, and then we sought to join hands with the legions of the damned. Our suffering is of our own design, my fellows.”

Synopsis: It has been nearly a century since the fall of the last king of Ranmara and thus the end of pagan rule in the northern realms. After conquering Ranmara the Order of the Holy Fire disbanded their ranks and established the new “nation” of Halnora. Ruled by the Archbishop, an elected position from among the clergy, Halnora has existed as one of many emerging theocratic bodies over the past decades. Lead by the clergy, supported by the nobility, and defended by the legions of the faithful Halnora has prospered under the fair - if firm - rule of the cloth.

But the slimiest of serpents can hide themselves away among the devoted, weaving webs of deceit and treachery behind turned backs. Erand Argain - curator and lead artificer of the Cathedral of the White Sun - has been convicted of the use of black magic and theft of Cathedral artifacts. Sentenced to a life of incarceration at the dreaded prison of Derelac, Argain is placed in solitude aboard a prison vessel to be taken across the sea.

No sooner than the ship has departed the coastland than it falls under attack. The guard retinue is slaughtered near to the last with only two survivors as the treacherous Argain makes his escape, aided by the attackers. As the two survivors make their way to shore they are met with horror as they witness attacks by possessed animals and walking corpses, all guided by mysterious cultists shrouded in crimson and black. As the pair arm themselves and begin their pursuit of Argain they must also help their brothers in arms defend the people of Halnora from the vile legions Argain and his fellows have unleashed, Argain’s goal something far more insidious than meets the eye.

OOC: My partner and I will role as the lone survivors mentioned above, both of whom were a part of the escort aboard the ship transporting the traitorous artificer to prison. After surviving the ensuing shipwreck from the attack the two will have to decide on their next move, be it to report to the nearest outpost of set out after Argain themselves, so on and so forth. Argain and his mysterious companions meanwhile have been using necromancy and other vile magics to sew chaos in their wake, including sundering the barrier between the mortal realm and the realm of demons and unleashing unimaginable horrors across the land. Keeping to their sworn duty and determined to bring justice down upon Argain the duo set out, all of Halnora perhaps depending on them.

Synopsis: Were one to ask of the Griffon Knights of Auglire they would be met with upbeat tales of valorous warriors in shining armor gliding across the skies atop their proud steeds. For as long as anyone can remember the Griffon Knights have acted as guardians over the Glenneau Islands, watching over their peoples and warding off danger. From pirate bands to invading hoards the Griffon Knights have cowered before none, their resolve absolute and their strength in battle beyond admirable.

From their great stronghold of Auglire they stand vigilant, when not soaring through the heavens they train and hone their skills in combat, and when not doing this they study and meditate leaving little room for leisure. The Knights are a diverse lot coming from various backgrounds and races. Men, elves, dwarves, and even orcs. Many of those who have joined were given to Auglire at birth while some were recruited and knighted having impressed the Elder Circle.

Two young squires have recently come of age and proven their metal, earning the approval of the Elder Circle. Their knighting past them the two are now true Griffon Knights and eagerly take to the skies with their comrades. Their skills and dedication to be tested in the months and years to come.

OOC: As a pair of recently dubbed Griffon Knights my partner and I will take to the skies as we stand vigil over the people of the Glenneau Islands. Our characters will face trials of fire and grow to learn the true meaning of knighthood and what it is to live by a code of honor.

Synopsis: It has been three years since Eirik Dugane came to the throne, the fourth of his house to rule the realm. In time after he was crowned Duke of Evehold Eirik would show himself to be a tyrant. Harsh tax increases, confiscation of estates and land, and a rise in arrests and executions among nobility and commoner alike. All at the point of swords held by Dugane’s men.

The Ravens are the worst of Eirik Dugane’s lackeys. They prowl the shadows and through the night, peering through keyholes and listening around every corner for hints of discontent. They are Dugane’s eyes and ears and all fear them like phantoms stalking the streets and alleys. Many a man and woman has been dragged screaming from their homes at night by the judgement of the Ravens.

But a tyrant only brings fear and in time fear blossoms into anger, such as Eirik Dugane has brought. In his bid for absolute unquestioned authority he has seeded the ground with thoughts of rebellion and liberation from his oppression. A coalition is forming, a gathering of those wronged and disillusioned with the ironfisted Duke. They approach all whom may be of their like increasing their numbers and spreading their words of uprising among the people. Despite their discretion word of these dissidents has reached Dugane who has ordered his men and the Ravens to uncover and arrest them. Checkpoints, random searches, and interrogation of anyone who may even be of distant relation to a suspect have all been put forth. This crackdown it seems has only worsened relations between the crown and the people and more seek out the rebels who would see the cruel Eirik Dugane toppled.

OOC: My partner will take up the role of the newest member of the insurrection. For whatever reason (to be discussed via OOC discourse) their character has chosen to seek out the coalition, but before being accepted they will have to prove themselves to the leaders of the rebellion. Once this is done they may then join the ranks of the dedicated and fight to see justice brought to a realm crushed within an iron fist. They will act as a spy, an assassin, and even a fighter when the time comes. But revolution and war are never clean by nature and this newest devotee will find it to be as much a test of moral limit as finding a cause to believe in.

Synopsis: If there is one thing to be said about Dolya it’s that it can make or break a person. The city has a reputation for being a place of culture, innovation, progress, and riches. However this appeal is only one side of the coin so to speak. Dolya is also a city of intrigue, treachery, and profiteering. While the nobility shiv each other from behind false smiles, footpads prowl the alleys and thieves glide across the roofs and through the shadows.

The most notorious element of Dolya would be the infamous thieves guild, a collaborative group of cutpurses and burglars that skulk in the night filling their pockets with filched coin and other valuables. Some fear the thieves guild, some hate it, some even romanticize it. But there is one who mocks it, seeing it as an amateurish group of thugs and lurkers aspiring to be what a true thief is. Il Volpe - master thief and a living legend of Dolya, what every pickpocket and cat burglar wishes to be Il Volpe is. Some of the most daring heists in the last twenty years has been their doing.

To Il Volpe all others are lessers. Subpar wish-to-be’s too untalented and undisciplined to ever be an equal to the master thief. There has only ever been one who Il Volpe saw any potential in, that one being their apprentice. It has been two years since the master thief last saw their apprentice, and has come to decide it is time for a reunion. Using an old contact to locate their prodigy a call has been sent out. After two years away it is time for the master thief’s student to return home so they the pair may embark upon the greatest heist the city has even known.

But every fox has a hound on its tail. The dreaded Royal Thief Taker, servant of the Viscount, has been chasing Il Volpe for years now and it seems the trail grows fresher as he uses every method at his disposal to track down his old nemesis. Determined to see the master thief lose his head, the Thief Taker grows ever more determined and even brutal in his search. With a heist of historical weight before them and the Viscount’s dogs on their tail, the master thief and apprentice will need to live up to their reputations to come out alive and rich.

OOC: Master and apprentice take to the shadows and rooftops as they set out together after years apart. I will role as the master thief Il Volpe and my partner as their apprentice. The city of Dolya is a grand place where coin flows and treasures ornament the walls of the wealthy, this pair seek to make it rich and also go for the ultimate prize that is a heist on the Viscount’s keep itself. Something that no thief has ever done. With the Royal Thief Taker and the rival thieves guild both at their heels these two will find their obstacles unending as they race to make history. And be set for life to add.
