They say it's about the journey, not the destination. This is true of many things. Pizza delivery is not one of them.

TFW you know what you want to happen but the words aren't cooperating. Why is plot suddenly so much harder to write?

Bio

I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~

@PyroDash888 I think anything big enough to be described as a boulder, even if it's only a small boulder, is too big for most people to want to put themselves in its path. It'd hit her /hard/.

Sorry I ninja'd ya~ ^.^;;

@Mokley Well I don't see being dizzy and with a sore head as a reason to panic. I mean, minor illnesses do that, as could a number of other reasons. If I felt like my heart was having trouble, though, then yeah, I might panic. Also, if you give the space of a couple hours -- even a full hour before it's incapacitating so say fifteen minutes to half an hour before it's severe -- that's a decent chunk of time. Eh, I suppose it can be handled different ways, but I got the impression the lights were pretty much right away. ^.^
Nikki turned her attention to Blank at his call, grinning. “Now...well I’d like to find Eli and Rahna, but I think she landed pretty early. I don’t recall seeing their gliders after taking off. But I’m sure they’ll catch up!” Her face was alight with eagerness. “So now...we go find us a star!” It was a few moments before Nikki registered the pressure, as exuberant as she was. She winced. “Ugh, it sure is stuffy down here. It’s amazing, though.” The young lady shook her head to clear it, but the pain didn’t go away. “Am I the only one it’s getting to?”

She was distracted again by the emergence of strange lights. At first she thought it was a side-effect of the dizziness, but when one landed on Blin’s nose, she realized she was mistaken. “Blin!” she hissed, eyes wide in amazement. “Sleepyhead, open your eyes! But don’t move -- oh, if you miss this you’re going to regret it!” She didn’t dare move herself, afraid of scaring the...whatever-it-was off. “Blank, magpie, are you two seeing this?!” She almost forgot just how weak and dizzy she felt just then. Ugh, what the heck was going on?

The thought was totally derailed when another light flew from the underbrush and landed on her cheek. Nikki squeaked, at the surprise and the thrill. “Ooh, there’s another one! Haa, I think it likes me!” The light grew more intense, and she thought she saw feathers for a moment, but that was probably the fuzzy feeling talking. Actually, come to think of it, she was feeling better now. The unpleasant feeling must have just been from coming down so far or something. But it was fading, which was the important part. She lifted her hand, trying to gently grab the glowing critter so she could get a better look. Touching it was strange, like it wasn’t all there, but she managed to get it in her palm. “You’re pretty~” she told it. “Hey Blank -- oh, you’ve got one too! Haa, awesome! I wonder if we can keep them?” She glanced around, but most of the floaty lights had vanished. The girl gave a shrug. There was so much to see here, and to hear -- and she was going to experience all of it.

Mixed in with the noises of animals and the wind in the branches of the massive trees, there was a hollow clonking noise, and it had really grown quite loud. That was the next thing to attract her attention. And a good thing too, for all at once trees in that direction were exploding, and something large flew towards her and Blin. “Yipes!” Quick reflexes were indispensable for someone that courted danger as Nikki did. and they served her well in this instance too. A lunge to grab the boy on the ground and then she flung them both out of the boulder’s path. She released her friend once they were clear, making sure that she rolled as she hit the ground to minimize the impact, and coming to rest on her back. With the danger past, she burst into gleeful laughter. “Hahaha, /wow/ that was close~” Even a brush with death didn’t wipe the smile from her face. If anything, it made her grin wider.

((THIS NEEDS EDITING. Will happen in a while. *thumbs nose at Moks*))
((Edit: right, no it doesn't. Moks says I can just go with what I had. ^.^;; ))
@Mokley Hm, it's only a squeezing at their heart after a few hours? So not fast enough to be felt before the familiars show up, right? *works on post*

The girl chewed her lip. “It’s not that they’re won’t ever hurt you. But the /why/ is different, so the way to handle it is different. Like...like if someone is really, really cold, and they’re unconscious and almost dead, you need to warm them up, right? But if someone is unconscious because it’s hot and they don’t have any water, warming them up will only make things worse. It looks the same at first, but a different why means something good in one instance is bad in the other.” Amuné paused, then continued in a softer voice. “Mommy always told me that it’s important to know why people do things, so you can understand them better.” Grey eyes searched his for an indication of understanding, though she would be hard pressed to catch it with his mask in the way.

When Cain shared his name, he was rewarded with a warm smile. “It’s nice to meet you,” the child replied, pushing away from the wall she’d leaned against to curtsey politely. And when he summoned the dark flower as he had the first time they’d met, her face lit up. “Oh! I remember that trick,” she exclaimed. Amuné watched it twirl lazily for a bit before looking up at his mask again. “I should be going,” she told him, sounding reluctant. “I don’t want to. Even if they haven’t noticed that I’m gone, Ms. Primm will be angry that I ruined my dress.” The girl made a face. “It seems like she’s always angry about /something/. At least I had some time to myself, though. And I ran into you! ...I hope you turn up again sometime.” She smiled shyly, and turned to walk away. “Farewell, Cain.”

“Away.” Her stride remained steady until they were around a corner and out of sight of the boy and his father. Then the girl’s demeanor changed, as if she collapsed in on herself. Her shoulders slumped, her spine hunched a bit, and she shuddered. “Why...why did you -- that wasn’t necessary.” Her voice was soft, holding disapproval and even disappointment. “That man hadn’t done anything. He was upset because he felt his son was threatened.” Cautiously Amuné touched her split lip, wincing, then checked her various bruises to see what was swelling. She didn’t feel like one huge ache anymore, but being a bunch of distinct ones wasn’t much better. “He was just too angry. Too afraid.” A deep shadow crept into her grey eyes again, and this time it was not so swiftly dislodged.

“You asked me, was that surprise.” She brought up his question partially because it was a better time, but also to distract herself from unhappy thoughts. “When you did that...I was mostly surprised. But he was scared. Fear hits harder.” The girl took a deep breath to regain her composure, and straightened up again. She regarded the impassive skull mask that showed only narrow glimpses into the man’s eyes. “I said your face isn’t scary. But that’s not quite right. Alone it’s not, at least not to me. But when you were threatening that peasant...I was scared. You scared me.” She tried to find the words for what she wanted to express. “If that is how you are most of the time, then your face would be scary too.”
Wyth curled up on the girl's other side, and she wove her fingers into his coarse fur. Ethan didn't seem to really want to talk about his friend, so she let the topic drop, instead turning her attention to the stars. Her father had taught her to recognize lots of constellations, and he'd told her the stories that went with them. "They're so pretty. Look, there's Edos' wings," she said, pointing at the bright V of stars. Amuné let her finger follow the left side, until she reached another bright one. "And there's the arrowhead in Oranoak's Bow. It points north. It's important to be able to find that, because then you know which way you're going." The child scanned the skies. If that was the Bow, then nearby should be...

"The Cat!" Triumphant, she indicated a tight group of five bright stars, with a few mid-sized ones. "That's my favorite. I like when his tears shoot across the sky. Have you ever seen that, Ethan? I love that story. You've heard it, right? Poor kitty. Poor princess." The tale she spoke of wasn't one the Muran knew, and she was surprised. "Huh, I thought everyone knew it. But I can tell you!" She covered a yawn. "...In the morning. G'night, Ethan." She adjusted her position a little, and shut her eyes. "Oh...by the way...Even if you're hiding something, that's okay. I mean, you weren't angry with me, so...yeah. But...if you change your mind...if you decide you wanna talk about it...I'll listen."

@chukklehed to be fair, aside from the glowy gal you're the only one in the room with Amune.

The child frowned at the laughter. She was trying not to show it, but she was worried, maybe even a bit scared. She knew humans and shifters weren’t getting along well, that people were getting hurt because of it. She didn’t want to be one of those people. Cain was close enough to observe how her clenched fists were trembling. Amuné didn’t back down, though. As the man in black got to his feet, she glanced at him. She didn’t really detect anything with her magic, but the sense for danger that helped the rabbit escape the jaws of the wolf made the hair on the back of her neck prickle.

Magic surged around the man, and suddenly it was dark, and then he was gone. Wait, no, not gone, but behind the commoner, holding a knife to the other man’s throat! She gasped, taking a step back. Now she really was frightened, though she did her best not to let it show. “I think you’ve made your point,” she said instead, addressing the strange man in a voice that wavered slightly. “Stand down. We’re leaving.” The girl grabbed his hand and turned to start walking away. She didn’t reply to his comment aloud, but inside she was confused and scared. That wasn’t surprise at all -- well it was a bit, but it was more fear than anything else!
