They say it's about the journey, not the destination. This is true of many things. Pizza delivery is not one of them.

TFW you know what you want to happen but the words aren't cooperating. Why is plot suddenly so much harder to write?

Glad to see I'm not the only follower of Lord Cato, god of wisdom, on this most auspicious Superb Owl Sunday.

Bio

I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~

That's just getting into specifics, though. This does make me wonder a bit about other season-born humans, though, and how plentiful they are. That might even change the general attitude of the fey, as ones taken at an older age would retain at least a portion of their human outlook and even pass it on to their children. Could be interesting, @Prince of Seraphs!

Basically, even if the concept is sound and you've figured out a way to make it work, you've shared none of the how or the why, which is what I'm interested in.

*flails* MY POWER JUST CAME BACK ON! stupid old buildings. T.T
@BlackPanther ... And it sounds like his adopted father must have been the previous King of Summer, since Feoras was his heir and that's how he obtained the throne? So does that mean his father is dead now?
@Prince of Seraphs Excellent, thank you. Ooh, I like your ruler. Archon is the equivalent of King? ...Hm, what would you say to some sort of fey with strong elemental affinities working for Archon? I'll read through your char sheet more closely to see if I want her born before or after the change in rulers, but I'd like Sini to be a knight or an advisor or something. Would you be okay with that? ...That might make Archon Max's master, actually, which could be fun.

Critique of a character isn't criticism of you as a person. None of what Prince said sounds ill-natured to me.

@Prince of Seraphs I think you have a point with the name. So Sini's lord or lady would be Maxwell's master in the end, okay. *grumbles something* Magical healing isn't completely necessary for him, but he's a very skilled physician/doctor/healer/whatever. If in a place with zero medtech, that means magic is sorta required or he becomes useless...Hm. I wonder if assigning a very minor fey or a construct or something to work with him to handle the magic portion would work. I think giving an artifact to a human would be seen as unwise, because of the control issue and the value of the artifacts, though an expert in healing would be valued a good bit, so...*rolls* My preference would be less an artifact and more a very simple magic item, but it doesn't sound like those are things.
@Prince of Seraphs Ah, you have an excellent idea there. Yeah, the person originally used is a species I came up with that is similar to fey in that debts must be paid, but they place a great deal of value on not owing anyone anything -- so saving a life is generally something that must be repaid with a serious promise. Then again, doing unasked favors is rude in their society, so. ^.^;;

Yes, I think having her summoned with an accidental blood right works better, and she's angry at being summoned, and angry at being put in a dangerous situation even if she doesn't get hurt. ^.^

A few further thoughts. I'm reading through some of the old thread, and it's sounding like season-born fey can be human, originally? For example, what I've seen of Feoras -- human parents, but he's full fey and even the ruler of Summer. I'd understand if one parent was fey, that the child might also be fey, but it's possible for a full human to turn fey as well? You touched on this in your post (I wrote most of the stuff below the line before I saw it), but Feoras very definitely has at least one human parent, possibly two, and the way season-born fey is listed, it sounds like half-fey or adopted humans (though it might just be adopted wild fey) fit that category. Ugh, it'd be a shame if I have to get rid of Max's healer powers altogether, as I doubt they have up-to-date medtech in the fae realms...Maybe a powered crystal or something, a very /weak/ artifact...but those are rare, so why would his mistress have one, and why would she give it to him? >.< Open to ideas, here.

I'm not completely clear on Seelie/Unseelie division, as that's usually a personality thing but if I'm understanding correctly, then if your parents are one or the other, you're supposed to stay on that side -- and in that Court. Unless there's a coming of age where you choose for yourself or something, I'd think that would lead to a mix of attitudes on both sides, though perhaps kindness from Unseelie and deliberate nastiness from the Seelie is frowned upon and done on the sly. As for adjacent courts -- Spring/Summer, for example, or Summer/Fall -- it's just DM rule that they don't mix and have kids? Is there very little travel between the different courts at all? I know visitors would be met with at least some suspicion, but are they actually all but forbidden? That's going to make it hard to trade -- or spy, for that matter. A distrusted visitor is a better spy in some cases than someone that has to sneak around everywhere.

Falk is Tengvan? It's not explicitly stated anywhere, but they're both listed as Autumn King, so I'm guessing yes, and that Falk is the publicly known name.

Sorry if I'm picking at things and asking a lot of questions. >.< I'm trying to get a feel for the setting.
@Prince of Seraphs Thank you very much. One more question. Would a human's true name be their given name at birth, or something else?

I'm toying with a few different ideas, here, for characters. I kinda wanna play my post-grad med student/doctor character Maxwell, but he's usually got some sort of magical talent for healing, and it doesn't sound like that'd work here. He's also a sworn pacifist, at least in his original setting, and that was magically enforced, though I could probably make than an effect of something he said wrong in the fey realm. Not that he can't sorta help people that are gonna cause harm, but he himself cannot. ...Actually, I might be able to.

Ooh, ideas ideas. Right, changelings are classic fey, but they end up in the human realm for whatever reason. And a human coming to the aid of a fey is often rewarded in some fashion....Let's see. A descendant of a changeling, several generations later, might show a hint of magic but not enough to be recognized as such -- certainly not very strong without some sort of official training. Training might allow for a significant ability to be gained, thus his healing magic, which started out as just a very minor thing but is now stronger.

Usually it's one of Max's ancestors that saves the life of a fey, with repayment being a promise to come to that person's aid or the aid of one of their descendants, when they are in mortal danger. Max is the (un)lucky winner. But if he's being threatened by someone with a gun, or a steel knife, I imagine the fey would not be pleased if his attackers landed a hit on the her as she drives them off. So to balance the harm done her, she might take him to the fey realm? Ugh, it needs more work. @.@
This is interesting. I have a few questions. Should we know who Falk is? It sounds like he's the head of the Fall Court. Also there's not more than a brief mention of Seelie versus Unseelie fey and how they are different in this setting. Are there two courts of each? A mix in each court? What's the difference between them for this rp, in appearance, personality, and actions?

Are humans able to use magic of any sort? Are there any free humans in the fey realms, or ones that are loyal to a court by their own choice and given relative freedom, or are all of them slaves or pets?

I know the general idea of the Wild Hunt, and I saw your little spoiler for it, but what exactly is it in this setting? A host that hunts down anything on the night that it's released? Does it have one or more specific targets? Can fey choose to ride out with them? What about humans (though in most settings a human that does is bound to do so forever)? Does it have an evident purpose?
@chukklehed I dragged you nowhere. YOu said you were looking. I saw something I thought you'd like.

With that said, there's entirely too many people here for me. @.@ So long and thanks for all the fish~
