They say it's about the journey, not the destination. This is true of many things. Pizza delivery is not one of them.

TFW you know what you want to happen but the words aren't cooperating. Why is plot suddenly so much harder to write?

Bio

I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~

@Prince of Seraphs Yeah, but Dagon came after she'd already had her falling out with Summer, so it wouldn't have been for that.

@TheMinorFall I"m debating slapping him. x.x He just did something to her without permission, and touched her without permission, both serious breaches of etiquette. ...How badly would that turn out? I can turn it into her simply giving him a lecture.

And you've got a point about Primm, though part of why Amune is in her care is because I came up with the need for a chaperone and an idea for one before I set up the school. Now to make an IC justification that makes sense and doesn't seem completely careless.

Mrs. Martinez considered his reply, and nodded slightly. “I understand. I will get in touch with someone aware of the details.” She was still reserving judgement on certain things, but she had been satisfied as to the breech of etiquette, and that it would do her little good to demand further answers. When Cain mentioned his choice of student, however, both women reacted with surprise. The chaperone was suspicious, and irritated. If he was going to be shadowing Amuné, that meant Primm would have to deal with him as well, and she disliked him already.

The headmistress, however, was more concerned. “Miss Ris? I take it you are aware of her, ah, unique circumstances?” It was a tactful way to say that she was orphaned, and that the school could easily have turned her away. “Her magic is most unusual...I wonder if that’s the cause for concern. There really isn’t anyone to train her, beyond the basics -- and believe me, I have looked.” The woman steepled her hands in front of her, her gaze unfocusing for a moment as she considered. “I should caution you, I do not know how well she will take to your presence -- she’s extremely selective in those she likes. She can be difficult, and occasionally wayward, though nothing she’s never done anything overly outlandish, considering her age and upbringing. Still, she needs careful handling.” In truth, the girl was unpredictable even at the best of times, and Ms. Martinez was concerned that she would try to avoid him, or refuse outright to let him anywhere near her.

“I will see to it that a set of rooms are prepared for you.” The lady didn’t bother with putting any rebuke into her tone. Cain was not the one who had written the letter, or if he had it was already evident that he had a poor grasp of social customs. “Let the servants know if you need anything -- and when you expect your belongings to arrive.” The manner of his arrival had not been overlooked, and she had drawn her own conclusions from the details. “I’ll let them and the staff know you are to be permitted access anywhere you need to go, within reason. Of course, propriety demands that you avoid the girls’ dorms after a certain hour, and I can’t guarantee how happy any given person will be if you enter their room or suite. I must also insist that you avoid disrupting classes while you are present.” Mrs. Martinez rose from her chair and came around the desk to see him to the door of her office. “If you need to speak with me, please do not hesitate to let the secretary know. I hope the Department will find everything is to its satisfaction.”

@TemplarKnight07@Prince of Seraphs Oh good point. I knew that. *facepalm* Slipped my mind.

Edit; Dagon has an ancient Unseelie sword? Is this an artifact, or just a sword with a name?

With the assumptions, I'm sure there's lots of details he has wrong, but I dunno that the ones you mentioned are as harmful as iron or the power of words in regards to the fey are of use. *scratches head* Though assuming Seelie fey are friendly might do it. That could get /very/ messy. *amused* ...Oh dear, I think Lei may have a new target for mischief -- provided she can get at anything useful with being tied to Maxwell. Maybe she has a friend or two that would set up a prank for her. That's not particularly unfriendly, but it could be /fun/.

@TheMinorFall *pets* I want blueberries -- they're on sale until tomorrow. But I don't wanna leave the house. Also laundry and a few other chores. *flops*

EDIT: Ooh, well played!
@LadyRunic Hope you had fun at D&D! Which version?

It doesn't say humans have no magic at all -- but I don't believe it specifically says they don't, either, unless you read the entire discussion on the OOC. A question, by the way. Those portals aren't always open, right?

I think that if Gideon is going off research in the modern era, he should have some mistaken beliefs specified as well as accurate ones. Something significant, that will cause him as much trouble as the knowledge of words and iron will help him. He'd have arrived at these conclusions the same as he arrived at his other conclusions, but this would reflect clearly the lack of accurate information. He's using only his sense of what's true, and fey do not fit in the reality of the human world.

...and crud, now I wanna play with the idea of someone who believes in fey, but also in all manner of /other/ things. Like, say, ghosts. And they figure the best way to bring a dead person back is via the fey and their magic, because there's bound to be some that have that ability, right? x.x

Ooh, an idea~ @TemplarKnight07, to avoid needing magic to get there, he could have gone to one of the most famous magical sites. Or possibly several, on a trip across Europe. And he gets to Stonehedge, and -- it's open! Maybe the rulers just left, or at least it wasn't too many hours before, or maybe it's the right time of day. The witching hour might work (think that's midnight?) The reason he didn't go sooner could be because he's had to save to afford the trip, plus he wasn't old enough to travel overseas alone. ...Might need to be a little older for that to work, actually, or perhaps he lives in England but didn't feel ready for a trip until recently. It is a big step, and best to be fully prepared if you encounter unfriendly creatures.
*bites hands to keep from saying something* *runs off to find something else to occupy her*
@Prince of Seraphs According to @LadyRunic, humans have zero magic, and even those with changelings in their past don't have it active until they've been to the fey realm /and/ had something done to unlock it. It's why Max doesn't yet have healing magic of his own. As for humans being granted magic by the fey, I'm not clear on if that's doable, but I am curious how our lovely leader shall weigh in.

I'm waffling over any other commentary as I have feedback but it's not my department and I made people angry last time I started suggesting changes. ...Both last times, actually. <.<;;

@TheMinorFall As a caution, if he says something about preselecting Amune, they will call him on it -- he’s never seen her, as far as they know. He’s not seen any of the students. And he’d have to be spying on them in town or something because there definitely wasn’t any time when they had a trip for assessment, or whatever. Then again, he might have requested files from a royal archive, or something. I’m sure family trees are recorded, as well as other things. Amune might be marked as...not quite a charity case, but certainly special circumstances. Plus if there’s record of what sort of magic people have, that might have drawn his interest. ^.^;; I’m probably overthinking it. <.<

Ms. Primm pursed her lips. Her face held more of frown than it had a moment before. She had judged the man and found him wanting. He had not introduced himself properly. His clothing was highly questionable, his mask peculiar, his face mutilated -- and he wanted access to the students? They should write a sternly-worded letter back to the Department, and tell them to send someone better-suited to the task. What sort of an insult was this?

The headmistress was harder to read. The mention of evaluation was expected -- but liquidation came as a surprise, and one graceful eyebrow arched upward in response. “I appreciate the Department’s concern regarding the education of those who will inherit the duties of supporting this kingdom,” she said, giving Cain a pleasant smile, though the expression was tight. “But some of the things you mentioned concern me. Tell me, mister...ah...?” She waited for him to fill in his name before continuing. “Yes, thank you. Tell me, why does the Department feel it necessary to make such threats? I realize the Liddell Academy is not one of the oldest such schools, but we are numbered among the most respected. We have consistently met, if not exceeded, the required standards in all areas.” She did not say it as a boast, but instead as a fact to support her statements. “I cannot think of any reason someone might wish us closed, save perhaps those of rivalry with other such facilities. If an issue of which I am unaware has come to the attention of the Department, I would hope they would inform me and give us time to address it, instead of hanging the threat of being shut down over our heads.” The lady’s voice remained calm, but her words held a polite caution. She and her husband were well-connected. A move against them -- or against other noble families by way of the children in her care -- would not be without consequences.
