They say it's about the journey, not the destination. This is true of many things. Pizza delivery is not one of them.

TFW you know what you want to happen but the words aren't cooperating. Why is plot suddenly so much harder to write?

Glad to see I'm not the only follower of Lord Cato, god of wisdom, on this most auspicious Superb Owl Sunday.

Bio

I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~

@TheMinorFall Is fine. There's not so much happening in his head; I do understand. ^.^

It was possible one of the ladies was busy, or had not yet arrived. It might have been the subtle games of societal maneuvering that were so common among the nobility. Whatever the case, it was several minutes before Cain was shown to the door with the headmistress’s name engraved on the plaque mounted upon the door. The room beyond was somewhere between an office and a study. Several bookshelves, most with books but a few with various bric-a-brac lined two of the walls. A large bay window in the third looked out at the school and grounds, and a painting by a renown artist hung near the door. The rug was quality material, as were the furnishings and decor, but there was an air of formality to the room, despite personal touches such as framed pictures.

Two women watched him enter, one seated behind the large desk, the other in a chair to one side. The latter was approaching the upper end of middle age, with an expression like she smelled something unpleasant. Rusty brown hair streaked with gray was pinned up in a severe bun, and her grey eyes were narrow. The other lady was slightly younger, her dark blond hair pulled back from her face to fall past her shoulders in a cascade of gentle waves. Intelligent brown eyes regarded the newcomer with an impassive expression, giving the impression of a pending judgement.

“Please, have a seat.” The second woman waved to an empty chair that faced her desk. “I am Irene Martinez, Liddell’s headmistress. Sofia Primm is one of the caretakers and chaperones for our students. How might we be of service to the Department of Royal Special Affairs?”

((Sorry for the delay, @TheMinorFall, I was worn out yesterday and didn't get to posting. ^.^;; ))
@Mogtaki Yeah, but Vena just went. =P So that leaves one.

@AlexStarsion Oh dear. *tucks you in and makes you tea*
@Mogtaki Two? Which two? AMune is away, and Wyth is...probably going with Ethan, but otherwise not particularly useful until there's someone to maul. Or knock out of the way. Or intimidate....
@Belle Hm, interesting. You should speak with @TemplarKnight07 about details -- he currently has it listed that Dagon attacked a guest, and that's why he's imprisoned. Then again, if he's only been her knight for 20-50 years and imprisoned for the rest, she might not value him that highly -- it's not very long, among the fey. Of course, that's assuming that @Prince of Seraphs has the correct figure for when Arys and Feoras had their falling out -- about 100 years into her reign. You didn't state anything specific, but the way you proposed, the longer they lasted, the longer Dagon was her knight, and the longer he had to prove his complete loyalty.

However, Belle, if the gremlins use iron weapons to defend her, that assumes that there's enough iron to arm most of them and supply whoever she trades it to, if any. Is Winter the only source of iron, or just has the best sources? If it's the only one...jeez that's a serious advantage, and weighs a lot of things heavily in Winter's favor, if there ever /is/ a war. Just let the goblins gremlins loose! It also means that letting Falk ally with Arys is an even bigger risk, considering his general scheming. Also it assumes that she can tolerate being in the same place as said iron while they're using it, unless you mean iron-flecked blades -- that actually makes more more sense, so I'm guessing I misunderstood. It's also interesting to consider how the gremlins handle changes in rulers, or in-court quarrels over succession. Not to mention one wonders why (if Winter /was/ the main source of iron) they ever gave any of it away. Though I suppose other courts could have refused to trade unless they were given iron...yay intrigue.

It's interesting that Summer and Winter never had a true war, and not the impression I got from @LadyRunic's opening pieces. I know I referenced fighting between the two in one of my posts, going off her statement that there have been skirmishes and only for the moot has an uneasy truce been declared, as well as a few other statements I'd need to reread to locate. I might need to change some things in the way I've been thinking and planning, if that's how we're playing it. *toys with new ideas*

@TheMinorFall I have a thing I need to finish for someone else, and then I'll set that all up. ^.^ *sits on*
@LadyRunic >she will thank you
>after she curses you
Assuming, of course, that she sees it that way, and not as a fey being selfish and basically taking advantage of her for years and years, without her having any say nor even enough knowledge to do so. I could see Lyra forgiving Feoras...and I could see it going very poorly and her never forgiving him ever. *amused* It will be fun to see how that plays out, especially as I imagine it depends on who gets to her, and how aging her up is handled.
@LadyRunic@Prince of Seraphs Whoa, okay. So the only ones that could use a full-iron blade would be a full-human, or one of the races of fey that are specifically able to handle true iron. But having such a blade would make any fey in the area that is /not/ of said species feel unwell -- and iron itself is probably closely regulated.

I suppose I can see something in the forging process dampening the iron to get rid of that radiation poisoning effect. That would explain why fey can tolerate having flecked or edged blades around. And while edged blades would indeed be more dangerous to someone cut with them, I think flecked blades would be harder to handle in general, as the iron is throughout the metal, so touching any of the blade would mean contact with iron.

If iron-edged blades are indeed rare (and thus valuable), Duska would have given her blade to Sini, instead of the captain following her. The captain can get his own enhanced sword. Sini's second sword would be a normal one.

The girl searched Cain’s face, apparently looking for something in his eyes. Whatever it was, she didn’t seem to find it. However she didn’t elaborate, just looking vaguely disappointed. “Very wrong,” she agreed, shaking her head. The guardsman accepted the knife. “I’ll make sure 'tis waitin’ for you at the gatehouse, when you’re ready ta leave,” he said. “C’mon, lass, me brother be waitin’ fer you, and ye have nae e’en changed.” Kirk gave the child’s hair a ruffle, only for her to scrunch up her face and duck away. “Noooo~ You’ll mess up my hair!” The protest was more playful than anything else, and with a last glance at the assassin, Amuné set off across the yard towards the dormitories.

((You’re welcome to go to Administration, to Mrs. Martinez’s office. She’s headmistress of the school, and is expecting him to be by. Ms. Primm will be there too. If you need me to, I can figure out what it looks like, and or describe those two.))

@TheMinorFall
@TemplarKnight07 Well, I suppose having a knight that's utterly loyal is good, but as a seasonborn he's less powerful than many other fey -- and OH! CRUD. We forgot -- it takes quite some time to change a person from a human to a seasonborn. I forget just what @LadyRunic said, but I know it was years if not decades. Then again, a few years is not long to the fey, but it might be rather long to be without /any/ knights. *considering*

That's some really cool stuff about the Black Death! When it comes to knights, I'm not entirely sure but I think 1550 is around or shortly after the high point of jousting and jousting armor, which indicates (I would think?) knights still were around and doing various things. I initially thought you were a couple centuries off with knights, but after some research I found that while they started being phased out as early as 1300s with the introduction of gunpowder, they were still around in the 1500s and as I said, jousting was very popular at that point, though it seriously declined not long after, if I remember correctly.

Runic, just to make sure I have this straight, iron-flecked blades lose only the power to cut through magic, and are otherwise just as potent as a full-iron (or steel) sword? If so, yeah, Sini probably uses blades with a layer of iron in them.
