Current The way some people spell makes me wonder about their pronunciation.

They say it's about the journey, not the destination. This is true of many things. Pizza delivery is not one of them.

TFW you know what you want to happen but the words aren't cooperating. Why is plot suddenly so much harder to write?

Glad to see I'm not the only follower of Lord Cato, god of wisdom, on this most auspicious Superb Owl Sunday.

Bio

I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~

@Dulcet Woo! *dances* I'm excited!
@LadyRunic You proposed him switching to Fall; I was working off that. There was a scenario presented and I proposed possibilities for it. You've also said that fey do change courts, though mostly ones that already live in border areas and without close ties. Nyx's mother was from Winter, and given to Spring. There was no escape involved. Nor are the mara exclusive to fall. They are in Winter too, and my understanding was that there tend to be a few of most sorts of fey in any court, even if it's not technically their native one. Looked down on, perhaps, but present.

Sini herself is a halfbreed. Her father was Summer, and it's well known. Duska never had a reason to keep it secret. You never mentioned any issues for her parentage. Do I need to fix this?

Fey with relatives on both sides of a border would have every justification for switching. You said it's uncommon, but not that it's such a death sentence. I take it you are changing that? If that's the case, I feel that there should be unsworn fey in the border areas, or "wild" fey: ones with allegiance to no court, thoguh they have to follow the rules of the land their homes fall in.

I'm not clear what you're talking about with indentured servitude here. o.o Or being ransomed back -- if they were captured, that's hardly switching courts.

From this it looks like Sorin's experience would have to be at the death of a leader and the resulting power struggle. However, unless this was a /lengthy/ conflict -- or perhaps if there was a long period with many different leaders in short succession -- it seems like the last generals and captains of great renown would be dead, given that there's none left alive who saw Falk's rise to power. That is, outside of the ongoing conflict between Summer and Winter, where there would be plenty of opportunity to shine. This poses an issue for Sini and Duska. Where did they get their experience and earn recognition? I had figured there were at least raids, or.../something/, possibly of unaligned fey, possibly of disavowed fey from other courts. Enough to be a serious threat in attacks. That's the most feasible solution, I think. If that's not workable, I'll need to think of something else.

As a note, I'm really not clear on what you mean by freely. Duress isn't freely given, no matter how indirect the threats. Would you please explain?
@LadyRunic If a trusted commander left another court, I think the court he went to would be under considerable suspicion. Might not have proof, but this is the fey. I am curious, though. It seems he is similar to both Duska and Sini, yet Falk did not try to steal either of them. Perhaps because Sini is young, though I believe Duska is considerably older. Certainly a few thousand, at least. Perhaps because they were Spring? Perhaps because Sini, at least, is not so entirely ruthless? I'm curious as to his reasoning. Then again, they were known to be very loyal -- but so is Sorin, to the point of being vicious to traitors. I wonder if Falk could sway him -- at least, before the death of his ruler. Hm, if he was Spring...but no, Ceridwen swayed people right away, so even if he had wished to leave then he wouldn't have been able. So /maybe/ at her death, if Sorin was Spring. That would create tension, if he'd left, and Sini encountered him again.

I could see him possibly changing locations if Falk timed his offer to coincide with Arys's rise to power, or Feoras's. It really depends on if his loyalty is to king or court.

Just ideas. I don't have any for him originating in other seasons, so I can't suggest too many there. *throws ideas at the wall to see what sticks!* Obviously I /personally/ am rather fond of him as Spring, but it's not my decision to make. ...I'd totally have Duska study under him if he was, though, at least at some point. Hm, actually, I don't know if Sini would ever take a leadership position without a ruler, with him around. So maybe a different court is better. She'd totally respect him, though. ...And now I want to see them interact. *puts a stop to speculation before it gets out of hand*

So...coming back. *wrestles with self* It seems names can be forcibly taken, then? Or at least under duress? ...I really do want to play this. I just...I really worry I'm going to have similar problems to before.

Out of curiosity, what wars have there been in the fey realms recently? *trying to figure out where Duska and Sini would have fit in with those*
@LadyRunic don't necessarily need a reason for him to have switched. It could just be a reason his parent(s) switched. ^.^ Additionally, killing to keep a general is different from killing to /steal/ a general, and that might start serious hostilities.
@Belle because you have Falk? Also the yummy man is there to enjpoy no matter who he's loyal to? *blinks, shrugs*

Actually I didn't know there was any taking away to be done here. I was trying to help Fallen.
@Tsar Gatto oh yes. But fitting into a new settinrequires brains that don't currently wish to be cooperative. I know who I'm using, but specifics of history and current situation elude me. X.x
@LadyRunic ...oh gosh, please don't tempt me. I kind of want to, and it was a very hard decision I had to make, leaving, but...ugh, and I have such a thing for triumph out of tragedy. >.< *shakes fist at you* You're awful, you know that? =P Making me question my decision. I shouldn't be considering it, but I am. >.< GAAAAAH.
@Tsar Gatto OH GOSH NO. No, it's pg13. But you can swear, and both penises and breasts are mentioned, though actual sex stuff is not allowed. And the shoutbox has a boob obsession...and the other day we ended up discussing whale penises, then some site that sells sex toys, then it got a bit too R-rated and we went to mpreg and then seahorse babies, and ended up on animals that eat their babies under certain conditions? ...Then again, the SB can be /extremely/ strange. ^.^;; And because while you can't promote other sites, linking to them (or going to IM or discord or something) is completely permissible, even the rule precluding smut is not a serious problem if that's /really/ what you want -- provided you can find a partner.

@Shoryu Magami I know ryu is a Japanese word, and I know it tends to split after vowels, so I'm /guessing/ sho-ryu, if you want Japanese pronunciation. But I"m no expert. I need to read the original story, at some point, for Count of Monte Christo.
@Shoryu Magami I had to look twice before I realized it's not spelled the same. Actually, it took me several times before I stopped reading Shoryu as Shoyru. Many people's brains will automatically unscramble letters to create something that's expected. It's why many people can read words with their letters out of place, in typos or otherwise. Unfortunately this is counterproductive when the word is not anything we've encountered before.

...It is Sho-ryu, innit? X.x I should have seen that. Goodness knows I read enough manga. >.<;

He looks familiar. What's the anime?
