@Willy Vereb Awesome :) and you're welcome to move it to to characters, for more easy access.
First off, regarding nukes. While last night I did like the killsat idea, I would also super appreciate everyone staying clear of nukes, and focus on other, less controversial tech. If A nuke were somehow to be introduced, I'd rather have it as a RP event, something climatic for when the killsat strikes down.

Now on to shorticus.

Okay, so I'm just now starting to wake up.

I'd like to go ahead and ask what sort of technologies were present in the 22nd century (which is when the world went BOOM, right)? I'd also like to pass a few specifics by you for consideration.

So, my idea for the Malagasy Empire is that Madagascar was left virtually untouched by the nuclear war that gripped the world... because it's freaking Madagascar. Almost nobody thought it was important enough to bomb. People were too busy slugging it out with other nations. So, while a few nukes fell on the island nation, it was the rest of the world which took the brunt of the worst.

This means that at the end of the nukes and its own recovery, Madagascar finds itself in a unique position: unlike the nations surrounding it, and unlike many nations, a lot of its infrastructure and such is still standing. Of course, Madagascar in our spacefuture of mankind was never, ever at the front of the pack technologically, but it nevertheless started off with enough leftover pre-war technology to have generally good civilian life and more quickly prepare for its future role as a regional / global power. This is sped along by the fact that the island of Madagascar is seen at the end of the war as a sort of "hidden utopia" that a ton of people along the eastern coast of Africa go on a quest to find.

Lo and behold, Madagascar becomes overpopulated. Like Great Britain in the colonial era, that overpopulation and some discrimination between social classes, religious groups, and clashing cultures leads to colonial efforts on behalf of Madagascar, and its people start to take over the coastlines and islands of the Indian Ocean.

Is this all acceptable? And if Madagascar has a larger-than-average amount of leftover tech, what am I looking at for story purposes? One thing I'd seriously love to roleplay having is some sort of laser rifle that nobody knows how to rebuild because the metals involved were synthetically made in the 22nd century and nobody knows had to remake those materials. Or maybe, despite being generally outclassed by the Middle Kingdom, the Malagasy Empire stays in the game with a combination of advanced naval tactics (thanks to literature on the stuff still being around for them) and a few nuclear submarines looted from where-the-Hell ever they could be found? (Or would nuclear submarines armed with torpedoes and such be blown to bits by the Killsat?)

Oh, civilian technology would be Madagascar's real cookie, note. Skyscrapers and little lovely things in life (microwaves, air conditioners, etc) would still be around, probably with some solar paneling.

While it is interesting, willy is correct in that a clean slate is the idea, however, you may integrate aspects of this idea to this Madagascar.

Edit: More replies to come.

@Jig I do find the idea interesting, whichever way you go with. A large defensive fort of vehicle sounds neat.

Edit 2: Did I miss anyone?
WIP.

Nation Name:
Formerly the United Plains Coalition, now known as the American Badlands

Human
Baseline Humanity are the majority of the peoples of the UPC, with various ethnic groups inhabiting these lands.

Grogar
The Grogar, or the Paleskins as most often refer to them, are a race of Artificial Soldiers created by the First Ones(Most likely the Old United States) many centuries ago. Clone Soldiers that once resembled their Creators. These soldiers were placed in the care of an prototype AI Construct who also was handed control of the Manufacturing Complex where which they were produced. Over the many centuries after the Cataclysm however, Both the AI and clones, along with their proceeding generations begun to slowly deteriorate. The AI growing more unstable mentally and soon saw itself as God of these creatures. The Clones soon embraced such a mindset as they deteriorated more, many of them now becoming deformed ugly beasts.

The AI took advantage of these deformities and experimented on and morphed the clones for its twisted purposes. To this day, the Grogar pillage and raid the surrounding lands deep in the American Heartlands and beyond.

Other
The UPC is also home to small immigrant populations of Abhumans and Beastmen a few of whom are escaped Cascadian Slaves.

Population:
Humans: 5 Million
Abhumans/Beastmen: 1 Million
Grogar: 3 Million

Culture and Religion:

Pre-Cataclyism Technology:
Somewhere in the center of the Badlands lies a massive underground facility, formerly of the ancient United States Military, the Facility served as a Black Site, a storehouse of experimental technologies, unfortunately sections of the facility and hardware are inoperable or have wore down due to age and poor conditions, mostly due to the AI prioritizing power and maintenance of sectors and equipment it deemed expendable.

However, others still function perfectly, such as the Genetics Sector, the place of birth of the Grogar Race. The Genetics sector, as implied, studied and dabbled in genetically engineering the perfect supersoldier, creating clones for durability testing and modifying, and continues to serve a similar purpose as new breeds of Grogar are grown and tested.

The Facility had also housed several Armories, with varying pieces of experimental military equipment, a majority of which have been cannibalized once many of the Grogar went rogue. Leaving the still loyal Legion with little.

Crap, messed up! :P

*moves sheet*

Anyway, Iso, Monkey, check out the bottom of my sheet. Got an internal map of the badlands.
<Snipped quote by Sigma>I didn't indend to take Greece but perhaps I should.
I might've taken Finland, though. Anyways I plan working on the map along with my NS. I make the final decisions there.
Till then this version can work.
BTW, my flag would be something like this:

I renamed my nation to the Hungarian Federation.
Official language is Hungarian but in reality everyone has the freedom to speak whatever native tongue they have. You'll see the rest of the details later.

Kinda assumed all the balkans in my head :P

And I'll add in finland.

Edit: Actually jig has most of it, I'll give you what's left.
@Willy Vereb Speaking of, I added you to the map. Got it right, missing any territory?
@Willy Vereb Ah, I see. That ought to be a more efficient deterrent, yes :P
@Monkeypants Sounds good. Although they'll be a bit different then their fantasy counterparts.
@Willy Vereb I do like the idea of some sort of Orbital Defense System shooting down nukes if they were launched. Kinda keeps warfare conventional to an extent.
Snip

*pop out and takes a look* "......Nope!" *Goes pack to factory*
Hmm, thinking on it, should I rather make the grogar a single faction? Or just divide them up?

Thinking back and forth if they should be the infighting types.
