I have been role-playing off and on for the last 20 or so years, which is surprising to realize, and I find it a relaxing and enjoyable hobby. After an accident that left me blind a little over 17 years ago, I couldn't role-play for quite some time, which was rather devastating. About the time that Apple invented Siri, I was able to get enough money to be able to purchase my very first iPhone. And BAM! The world of role-playing was once again open to me. It has been a long process getting used to dictating stories and I inevitably don't always catch every single mistake, But I have learned a great deal of patience and realize the value of taking things slow and working through my text when something doesn't sound completely right. It was only a couple of years ago that I came across this website and the stories I have had here have taught me a lot about myself. I love to create. Role-playing is one of the only outlets I have for the images in my head. So though I may have a tendency to go through cycles of depression and being antisocial, I always seem to come back in the end.
I love stories involving fantasy, supernatural, adventure, mystery, even romance. There probably isn't a genre out there that I wouldn't give a try before I will say that I don't like it.
My favorite style of role-playing is, hands down, one on one. It helps me feel more involved in the story, gives me a chance to be able to talk with the other person involved in a much more casual way, And more often than not results in a long lasting friend and some of my favorite adventures.
I have a tendency to write on a casual to low Advanced level throughout my stories, the minimum coming out to an average of a couple of paragraphs. I just have so much in my head that I want to get out, I have a hard time writing anything less. Another consequence however is that I can't seem to find a lot of patients with story partners that give me a really short and undetailed response every time. It's discouraging to take the time to write out several detailed paragraphs only to get a sentence in reply. If you're here thinking of asking me to do a story, please keep that in mind.
I do not tolerate swearing, extreme Gore, or sexual content in my stories. Period. Nor do I role-play same gender romantic relationships. That is just not going to happen.
If you made it to the end of this and I haven't scared you off, I think you deserve some virtual cookies. Heck, go get yourself some real cookies. Or donuts. Or pie if that is your preference. Had an idea come to mind during breakfast. One possibility would be that our characters each receive an invitation to compete in an elite competition that would determine who could enter the Valkyrie league ultimately. Over the course of the competition, each of our characters would be recognized for their raw talent and abilities and would each then be extended an invitation to come and train for the next level of competition in the Valkyrie league. That way, we could each be creative in describing a battle with an NPC of our choice for the first arc of the story instead of being thrust immediately into battles with one another.
@Birdboy makes sense. I am not fully settled on a direction for the story as of yet. I want this to be more of a group effort, you know? I want to know ideas and hopes for the story that we as a group will enjoy writing together. I kind of imagine that we're all on a bus and are each taking turns to drive the story or change the focus, picking which roads we go down. But i'm there, making sure that no one tries to use the bus as a jet airplane and does something completely unrealistic.
On that note, what are some goals or ideas that sound interesting to the group as a whole? Where would people have most interest in starting? What structure is the most appealing for the story overall? As previously mentioned, there will be battling, training, interaction, growth and progression, but what do we want to help drive the story? Aside from drama and cool fight scenes of course.
As a sidenote, one of my kids woke up this morning and cuddled with me as I showed him some of my Pokémon in Shield. I haven't picked up Pokémon in a long time and had to laugh when I realized that my trainer had a Lucario and gastradon. Ha ha! At least I didn't use Leafeon, Skuntank, and Ninetails too. Subject to change in the future. :D
@Minjun1201 Hello. I have little children, so I'm not sure how I feel about being called one. But I suppose we are all playing as we write in a way, so we're giving into fun. Anyhoo. At the moment, we are in an application phase of a Pokémon role-play. We are creating potential characters that would fit into a highly competitive environment in a story that focuses on battling, training, drama, friendship, and striving to be the best they can be. Right now, I'm asking that people submit characters, using the above appointed blank sheet, and after a certain amount of time, I will be accepting a certain number to be part of the official role-play. At that point, I didn't make an official thread where we can post character sheets, chat will be established, a posting order will be assigned, and the actual written role-play will start. Those are my thoughts anyway. Are people all right with that?
@Randomness as far as I know, there was so much interest, this exploded into two different role-plays. The original is still going, but I received permission to start a second group for those who want to participate. I'm going to keep the roster limited as well, so I suppose it has the potential to explode out even more into a third group. Ha ha!
@tadcfnaf I like him overall, but one of the rules is no legendary. I know it works in with the backstory and everything, but I think it would make him overpowered. If you edited him so that it could feel like something he could achieve in the future, I would be OK with that. But I don't think it would be appropriate for the story right now as is.

It takes years to train a Pokémon for battle. Years of sweat, blood, and tears that often never amount to anything. Every kid can catch a Beedrill or a Geodude, and a few get lucky or work hard enough to be the toughest in their town. The truly dedicated might take on a few gyms, and only those seemingly destined for it ever even make it to the elite four of their region, let alone defeat the champion.
Yet that is only scratching the surface.
The elite four, the regional champion, all these gyms. These are just practice for what comes next. Surpassing the milestones and gaining those notches under your belt are just traditions to prove you’re ready for the big leagues.
Above all else, Pokémon battles are the most revered of sports. It’s an ancient tradition that is seemingly universal anywhere humans and Pokémon collide. So ancient it is primal, that it harkens to a part of ourselves we all crave to see. Those able to prove their mettle are those worth watching. Their battles are legendary and well-received. Who wouldn’t want to see such a spectacle?
But it isn’t all glamor and glory.
For as long as it takes to make it there, it’s rare for a trainer or their Pokémon to stay in the ring for long. Age gets to even the strongest, injuries impair even the most durable, and hearts weigh heavily with each husk of a fighter that must be discarded and replaced when they have lost their edge. Still, everyone, Pokémon or not, in some way strives for that moment of glory, fully aware of the dangers.
Welcome to The Valkyrie League! A Pokémon roleplay focusing on the competitive side of battling. Imagine a sports anime like Haikyu or Hajime no Ippo, but with the lovable mascots of your favorite game series! Expect training arcs, tournaments, and lots of angst! This roleplay takes more of an example from the anime and its logic rather than the games. Any Pokémon is capable of being powerful, and it’s a matter of finding and cultivating the best ones. A happini can lift a frozen lake, a bellsprout can tangle with the best. Just because a Pokémon is considered bad or is usually good at one thing doesn’t mean they have to be in this roleplay! Each Pokémon is unique and fights in its own way.
In this roleplay, the elite four are just a stepping stone and the real trainers are those who manage to beat them. These select few make up the Valkyrie League, where the most renowned trainers from all across the world battle for others to watch.

Hello there! As you can see, this is the original idea I was given permission to try to find a second group for. The majority of the rules still stand, the only exception is that I will be running a PG game in terms of language. I have young children and I use voiceover on my phone, I'm visually impaired, so my phone reads role-plays when I check them. I don't tolerate swearing and I don't want my kids to pick up curse words and start throwing them around the house. My two year-old already has enough power with his tantrums.
I will be putting together a character very soon if enough interest is generated. I've also received interest from one person so far. Please feel free to reply with potential characters and any ideas you might like to see implemented in this story. I know Birdboy was very generous to give their permission, thank you again. He and others have already started adapting this idea to fit them. With any luck, I can find a group to do an idea like this. She has pale skin lightly tanned from constant time outdoors, auburn hair usually tied into a practical braid or ponytail that falls to the middle of her back, and sharp green eyes that seem to be constantly evaluating her surroundings. Her clothing favors utility over fashion: dark hiking pants, durable boots, fingerless gloves, and a fitted gray jacket bearing patches from tournaments she’s participated in over the years. A weathered messenger bag hangs at her side, stuffed with notebooks full of battle observations and training regimens.
Personality: Maeve is analytical, patient, and intensely competitive. Unlike many trainers who rely on instinct, she treats battling like a science, studying opponents and constantly refining strategies. She is calm under pressure and rarely loses her temper, though she can become stubborn when she believes she’s right.
Despite her serious approach to battling, she genuinely loves Pokémon and treats every member of her team as a partner rather than a tool. She dislikes trainers who abandon Pokémon after losses and believes loyalty is what separates champions from celebrities.
History: Maeve’s father worked as a battle analyst for regional tournaments, and from an early age she spent more time studying matches than playing games. Steal you say? Does that mean I get anything you're holding at this moment? ;) Nah. I'm sorry I missed the window for this, it sounds really interesting. But if you're really OK with someone taking this idea or building a similar plot or idea off of it, I am still interested in role-playing Pokémon. I'd probably do a more PG level when it comes to language though. I don't swear and I have young children and use voiceover, so if they hear my phone saying it, it's likely they are going to be a parrot and say it back. I know that's a turn off for a lot of people though. If anyone's interested and didn't manage to get into this awesome idea, I might be interested in starting up another group. It was deadly quiet after Giselle's pronouncement, though no objection was raised. Ronan met the iron gaze of the senator for what felt like minutes, but was more like the span of a breath, and then he and the Secret Service agents were silently filing out of the room. Silent wasn't the typical response, not with his experiences so far, and it felt even more dangerous than carefully constructed words would've been. The door clicked quietly after the second bodyguard and Giselle took up her father's position on the edge of the desk, though she gripped it for stability, looking more vulnerable, whereas he had merely used it as a perch, an object that would serve him and his purpose until it was no longer needed.
Ronan found that he could not answer her immediately. He wasn't used to the human interactions of everyday normal life. He had rarely ever been left alone with anyone that he wasn't planning on murdering, was always with his father or his brothers when he wasn't on assignment. He didn't know how to act like anything other than what he had been trained to be.
Slowly, he put his hands back into his pockets and found himself taking a moment to simply center himself, take stock of the immediate situation. He felt the texture of his pants against his fingers, his palms. He felt the press of his feet against his shoes as he stood on the floor. He felt his heart thumping in his chest, the contraction and release of his lungs, the way the air moved through his nose, the brief flutter of eyelashes against his skin as he blinked. He felt the ever present ache of the badly healed scar that carved across his back.
The ache grounded him.
Pain was familiar. Predictable. Easier to navigate than a young woman staring at him and demanding answers he wasn’t supposed to give. His gaze lifted from where it had drifted to the floor to Giselle. For a moment he simply studied her. Most people looked at her and saw a senator’s daughter. A political asset. A liability. A bargaining chip.
'A target.'
The thought settled heavily in his chest.
“You ask a lot of questions,” Ronan said at last, his voice low and even. There was no accusation in it. If anything, it sounded almost thoughtful. “The short answer is that I can do things those agents can’t.”
His shoulders rose in a small shrug. “They’re trained to react to threats. They’re good at creating barriers, evacuating people, controlling a scene. But their job begins when everyone knows there’s danger.” He tilted his head slightly. “Mine begins long before that.”
The words slipped out before he could stop them. Too honest. Too revealing. His father’s voice immediately echoed in the back of his mind, a sharp reminder that information was a weapon and sentiment was weakness. And although he inwardly winced, Ronan managed to ignore it.
“The people who concern your father aren’t the kind that announce themselves. They don’t make additional threats. They don’t send further warnings.” His eyes remained fixed on hers. “If they’re competent, you’ll never see them until they’ve already decided where you’ll be standing and how you’re going to die.”
Silence followed his words. Most people would have softened the statement. Ronan wasn’t most people. He wasn't going to backpedal and recant what he had said. After a second, he realized how that had sounded and blinked, his fingers briefly twitching inside his pockets.
“What I’m saying is...” He paused, visibly searching for the words. “A Secret Service agent looks for someone rushing a stage. Someone planting a bomb. Someone with a rifle on a rooftop.” His jaw tightened slightly. “I look for the person who spent six months becoming invisible first.”
For the first time, a faint flicker of discomfort crossed his expression. “They protect against threats they can identify. I specialize in finding the ones they can’t.”
His gaze shifted briefly toward the office door before returning to her. “The kind of people your father is worried about don’t leave obvious signs. They study routines. Habits. Weaknesses. They learn who talks to whom, which entrances get used, which doors don’t lock properly. By the time a traditional security detail notices them, they’ve already been planning for weeks or months.” A small shrug followed. “That’s the difference. The agents are there to stop an attack. I’m there to recognize one before it starts.”
Ronan paused again briefly before going on. “If it helps, I don’t particularly care who your father is.” His grey greengaze remained steady on her hazel one. “I care whether the threat is real.”
The corner of his mouth twitched, not quite becoming a smile. “And based on the fact that you’re interrogating me instead of hiding under that desk, I’d say you’re trying to figure that out too.”

It has been a long process getting used to dictating stories and I inevitably don't always catch every single mistake, But I have learned a great deal of patience and realize the value of taking things slow and working through my text when something doesn't sound completely right. It was only a couple of years ago that I came across this website and the stories I have had here have taught me a lot about myself. I love to create. Role-playing is one of the only outlets I have for the images in my head. So though I may have a tendency to go through cycles of depression and being antisocial, I always seem to come back in the end.
I love stories involving fantasy, supernatural, adventure, mystery, even romance. There probably isn't a genre out there that I wouldn't give a try before I will say that I don't like it.
My favorite style of role-playing is, hands down, one on one. It helps me feel more involved in the story, gives me a chance to be able to talk with the other person involved in a much more casual way, And more often than not results in a long lasting friend and some of my favorite adventures.
I have a tendency to write on a casual to low Advanced level throughout my stories, the minimum coming out to an average of a couple of paragraphs. I just have so much in my head that I want to get out, I have a hard time writing anything less. Another consequence however is that I can't seem to find a lot of patients with story partners that give me a really short and undetailed response every time. It's discouraging to take the time to write out several detailed paragraphs only to get a sentence in reply. If you're here thinking of asking me to do a story, please keep that in mind.
I do not tolerate swearing, extreme Gore, or sexual content in my stories. Period. Nor do I role-play same gender romantic relationships. That is just not going to happen.
