The Town That Takes All

This is the OOC/Character Application for The Town that Takes All, a Silent Hill Roleplay. Please keep checking this post for open/closed status. We currently have 6 players total.

DISCLAIMER: THIS RP is 18+ FOR A REASON! It is a psychological horror game. It can potentially (and probably will) end up delving into sensitive topics.

Posting Requirements

I am only requiring one post per week, because that is all I can guarantee myself as I balance my work life with this my spare time. However, feel free to post more often if you wish--I just cannot say for sure I'll be able to post more than that myself. If you're having a great RP moment with someone, don't feel like you HAVE to wait until the next week to post. All I require at minimum is 1 post per week, and you can post more as you are able. I will try to post more often, but cannot commit to more than that personally.

To apply, all you have to do is fill out a character sheet, and I'll comment approved and add you to the current players--that or I'll hit you up with some questions if I need clarification on anything :)

The Town That Takes All

The Story

Silent Hill has become a desolate ghost town, forgotten in the modern day. Derelict. It is a place some go to get their thrills, urban explorers, paranormal investigators. There are disappearances. There are strange deaths that occur there. But like the Bermuda Triangle and other supposed haunted locations, there is little to no evidence that something is actually occurring there. Just a lot of disappearances. A lot.

The entire town has become condemned. It is run down, forgotten. However, this makes it a hotspot for people who like to investigate the paranormal. The rumors of people vanishing or dying in or around the town, have attracted at least some attention. The town itself has been gated off, and it is technically illegal trespassing to enter the Silent Hill. State police say it is to protect people. Conspiracy theorists say it is to hide something. Most people don't care either way, if they even know the town exists at all.

And then there is you. For reasons that are your own, you have decided to enter Silent Hill. Why? Are you investigating the supposed disappearances? Are you an urban explorer looking for a thrill? A paranormal investigator hoping for some sweet video? Are you just curious about the ghost town? Or is there something else, some deeper pull, some calling you cannot explain?

Whatever the reasons, you are drawn into Silent Hill; and the real question is: can you escape the Town that Takes All?

Note: This takes place 50 years after Silent Hill 1, 2, 3, and 4. Feel free to have mention or references to these characters in your backstory if you want to have known some of those characters, but in our canon, none of them ever made it out of Silent Hill.

Sanity System: Please note there IS a sanity system in place. You add one to your insanity score after certain triggering events (GM will post what events cause this. Generally anything involving killing a human, certain monster encounters or environmental encounters, first time entering the Nightmare World, etc, will cause a point to be added.(Add 1 to sanity score after certain events/encounters and at certain thresholds certain effects will happen).

However, you are not without a way to combat insanity! You do have your bonds. You can draw on these bonds to reduce insanity, or prevent sanity loss entirely--but at the cost of weakening the effect those bonds have, until they are no longer effective and player eventually starts to resent them. ie, if your bond is your children, after so much time of drawing on your bonds with said children, memories if your children may stop being enough to keep you grounded. Eventually you may start resenting the fact that you are fighting so hard for them, and sacrificing so much, and then that resentment actually INCREASES your insanity points instead of decreasing them/preventing them from accruing.

Alright, after some time, I finally decided to jump back into the world of roleplay! This is just a quick interest check to see if I'd have any takers for a Silent Hill roleplay. With it being Silent Hill, there would of course be mature themes, ad it would be very much a horror roleplay.

If I can get at least 3 people interested, I'll post the full OOC with the full synopsis. However, here is a little preview of the idea:

The entire town has become condemned. It is run down, forgotten. However, this makes it a hotspot for people who like to investigate the paranormal. The rumors of people vanishing or dying in or around the town, have attracted at least some attention. The town itself has been gated off, and it is technically illegal trespassing to enter the Silent Hill. State police say it is to protect people. Conspiracy theorists say it is to hide something. Most people don't care either way, if they even know the town exists at all.

Writing Style: Just a paragraph or two per post, perspective doesn't matter; first or third, whatever you are most comfortable with is fine. I do hope we can build upon lore and character development/plot. Looking to post once, maybe twice a week (I work basically a swing shift, so I can't guarentee any more than that).

You don't NEED to be familiar with the Silent Hill universe, as it is standalone taking place 50 years after the games, however you might get a bit more enjoyment out of it if you already are as I will probably write in a reference or two :)

Other Information: I plan on implementing an insanity system, as well as utilizing bonds to help keep your character grounded in reality; after all, Silent Hill can take its toll on your psyche.

What shows/movies are you watching?

Is anyone watching the last few episodes of The Walking Dead? I know a lot of people shit on it now or say they didn't realize it was still on air, but they're wrapping up the main show this year. The franchise isn't done, though--they've got a bunch of spin offs and miniseries coming up soon. There's the NYC series with Maggie and Negan, the Paris series with Daryl and the Rick/Michonne miniseries that's supposed to be happening instead of the previously planned movies. Course there's Fear, too, but I haven't heard much news of it lately since everyone was focused on Tales airing awhile ago.

I never stopped watching the show. I absolutely love it, I think the hate for S7 and S8 was waaaay blown out of proportion, and this last episode (watched it on AMC+ so I am an episode ahead so I won't give any spoilers) was absolutely amazing.

I am a huuuge walking dead fan, have been since about S2 when someone I met here actually introduced me to it. Very fun series and I'm sad that it is ending the flagship series after 11 seasons. But hey, like you said--we got a lot of cool spinoffs coming.

Between House of the Dragon, Walking Dead, and Fear the Walking Dead, I'm having a good time for TV; first time I can say that in years tbh
