Alright last post of the day for me. Good night all.
When the teacher, Kurogane-sensei came to the podium to speak, Shizuka grabbed her face in embarrassment. "He's...so hot!" she thought to herself, I hope he's our homeroom teacher! Ah, but he's not going to pay any attention to a weird otaku girl like me. No! I'm not an otaku, I just have...different tastes..."

When Kurogane-sensei finished the first part of his speech and the fangirls started calling out his name, Shizuka kept quiet, as the sheer amount of rivals made her feel even more so that her chances were nigh impossible. When Hoshira-sensei was introduced, Shizuka was at first a bit repulsed by her strange skin color, but Kurogane-sensei reminded everyone to disregard outward appearances, which she took to heart, "That might mean that Sensei will look past my otaku tendencies!" Though back to the ceremony, Shizuka thought about how she felt about magic users, and came to the conclusion that unlike other people of Academy City, she had nothing against magic users, it was an unusual quirk of how her parents raised her, to tolerate people of faith, even if you might think they were irrational.

When members of Judgment were called up, Shizuka noticed that there were a lot of good looking boys, but when Ria was called up, Shizuka was reminded where she had heard Kurogane Kiyoshi before, as one of the Level 5's, few people hadn't heard his and Ria's names. Looking at Ria's cool elegance, Shizuka wondered if they could be friends. As a level 2, Shizuka had a strange mixture of jealousy and awe when she thought about level 5's, she assumed most of them were arrogant, but then again, they had a right to be. But she was sure they couldn't all be like that, and hoped Kurogane-sensei and Ria were not. Maybe if she 'Leveled Up', she could gain their respect, after all, that's what she was here for.

You know, when I saw the name "Kenobi" for one of the teachers, this is the 'teacher' I thought of.
Solomon spat into the aisle. This was as far as he was going to respond to Blythe for now, he was in enough trouble as it was and decided not to push it.

"Don't...provoke him any more, Ensign Rivers," Sion said to Blythe. "Humans are like children," Sion thought to himself. Still, he had to report this. As far as Sion was concerned, Solomon had committed an act of violence and needed to be reprimanded.

"OK," Israfil said, then gulped, calming down. "...thanks...a-aren't you afraid? Of the paranormal abilities of Ascendeds?" Israfil asked.

Tera helped Claire in helping Blythe to her feet. "H-hello," Tera introduced herself awkwardly to Blythe, "I'm Tera, I was talking to your sister." Tera went back to her seat.

An voice over the shuttle's PA announced the initiation of docking procedures, followed by an announcement that docking procedures had finished.

"Alright people, follow me, and keep your hands, feet...and minds...to yourselves," Sion stated as he made his way out the shuttle.
Shizuka stood in front of Hybrid Academy with a mix of excitement and apprehension. Her invitation to this school was unusual at best. A few months ago, she was caught dabbling with Level Upper. Level Upper usage is handled by the authorities in a way that resembles a cross between drug possession, illegal music downloading and copyright infringement. Shizuka thought she was busted, that she would go the way of her brother and be forced to leave Academy City forever. Instead, after being detained for a few days, she had been given an acceptance letter and permission to continue doing what she was doing, with some discretion.

She took an extra long time filling out her paperwork. Most people tend to skim past the fine print, but Shizuka always read everything twice over just to make sure she understood what she was signing for. This was more out of a nervousness and paranoia rather than actually being a stickler. As she headed towards the hall where the ceremony would take place, she noticed the crowd get thicker, and the sound of conversation and shuffling feet overwhelmed her. She put on her headphones and listened to the static, white noise that comprised her current version of Level Upper. She could feel it synesthetically hypnotizing her brain to operate on a higher level. She wasn't sure where to take it from here; either she could modify it so that it creates an actual increase in power, or she could mimic the original and create an AIM dispersion field synchronization network and borrow the processing power of other Espers using the system. The latter would be easier to do but she would need other users; and to get other users, she would need permission from the school.

As the seats were filling up, Shizuka found an open seat in the middle of one of the rows and sandwiched herself down uncomfortably between two other students and waited for the ceremony to begin.

Biography: Shizuka grew up as a low-level Esper in Academy City, having been sent there by her parents at a young age, along with her older brother. When her brother was in high school, and herself in elementary school, her brother started using the notorious Level Upper performance enhancing audio file. He shared it with Shizuka and both of them noticed a boost in their ability to use their Esper powers. When Kiyama Harumi, the creator of Level Upper used the Level Upper AIM network to hijack the powers of all the Espers using the network, both Shizuka and her brother went into a coma and after they were brought out of the coma by the Level Upper treatment program, they were apprehended as Level Upper users, in effect, they were branded as criminals. Due to her young age and due to having been influenced by her brother, Shizuka was acquitted, whereas her brother had to go through a long and arduous process to be released. He was also sent away from Academy City since he had lost his powers as a result of Level Upper.

Though Shizuka resents what Kiyama Harumi and Level Upper (and by extension, Academy City) did to her brother, the pressure, shame and powerlessness of being a low-level Esper combined with an insatiable curiosity for the level of power she had experienced when younger has pushed her to experiment on herself with synesthesia; as a manipulator of sound, she attempted over and over again to recreate and modify the original audio of Level Upper. It is perhaps this daring to break past her limits through unconventional (and potentially dangerous) means that has gained her acceptance to Hybrid Academy.

Personality: Despite her ambition, Shizuka is actually kind of a coward and just wants to get along with everyone. She puts too much value on what other people think of her, giving her a desire to please others which makes her susceptible to being bullied and exploited. She tries to find someone who she thinks will be nice to her and give her attention to whom she latches on, becoming something of a lackey. She can come off as serious but is easily flustered. She is afraid that her love of computers will make people think she's an otaku (she really is).

- Classical Music
- Pure sounds (electronic tones), or natural sounds (waterfalls and thunder)

- Being asked about music
- Feeling exposed

Skills:
- Wave Theory
- Perfect Pitch

Ability:
Lonely Orchestra (獨單樂隊 - Tandoku Gakutai) (Acoustokinesis): Level 2 (Level Up 4-5); Micro
Special Skill: Detection and emission of audible and inaudible frequencies and amplitudes of sound. This includes being able to figure out the resonant frequencies of various objects and materials by listening to the sound it makes when struck, and imitating voices.
Signature Move:
  • Level Upper Private Server - Shizuka's ultimate goal is to recreate Level Upper for herself. This may push her to Level 4 or Level 5. Depending on what the GM allows, this may be a buff to herself only, or an area-of-effect buff to all Espers within range of hearing her, which may or may not come with the advantages and disadvantages that having a small AIM field network brings. The details of how this particular skill manifests can be tweaked since Shizuka may not actually end up making an exact copy of the original audio.
    • Disadvantages: May induce coma or other negative side effects of the original Level Upper.

Magic: None

Theme Song(s):
- Main
- Battle music, or if she ever gets the chance to power-trip
- More power-tripping

Extras: Shizuka is not actually an audiophile and is somewhat out-of-touch with popular music. Shizuka's Signature Moves will not be achieved until later (with GM's permission of course).
Nuuuu~! I didn't mean to make you feel inferior! Honestly, a higher degree should humble a person of integrity. Someone who gains arrogance along with their degree has failed to learn the deeper lesson of knowledge. Aristotle said, "I know that I know nothing."

I was just showing my nerd-cred was all.
Upon hearing Blythe's defiance, Solomon lifted his foot in rage and was about to curb-stomp her when Sion shouted, "LEAR! That's enough! I gave you an order!"

Solomon seemed to snap back slightly out of his rage. He still fumed, incredulous that a Wildtype would dare speak to him in that manner. His leg hovered over Blythe's head indecisively.

"You are already going to be reprimanded for attacking a fellow soldier, Ensign Lear, don't make it any worse by disobeying me," Sion continued.

"Great," Solomon thought, "Now the Quantum's giving me lip too." Solomon placed his foot down gently next to Blythe's head and shrugged, feigning innocence, "Attacked? I did nothing of the sort. She came and bowed down to me of her own free will." Solomon released the control he had on Blythe's body.

"Don't be facetious, Ensign Lear," Sion continued, "Ascended psychic abilities are not magical. Certain sensors can detect the brainwaves you emit. I happen to be equipped with such sensors, so I can see that you were doing something to Ensign Rivers. Also, a Quantum's memory is not filtered by an objective, human viewpoint, so my evidence is more reliable than any excuse you can come up with, now SIT DOWN!" Sion normally didn't flaunt a Quantum's superiority over humans, but he tended to react to Ascended supremacist behavior with Quantum supremacist behavior, which he knew was wrong, but he also knew it pissed off Ascended supremacists to no end to be reminded of a Quantum's inherent advantages.

Solomon sat back down without a word, but continued to grin; Sion would be right if he presented his evidence in front of a fair and impartial court, but Solomon was pretty certain that the judge would be Ascended, and therefore biased in Solomon's favor, and would overturn Sion's evidence. A part of Solomon was afraid that Sion might actually succeed, but Solomon wouldn't let that anxiety show on his face.

Tera put a comforting hand on Claire's shoulder and whispered, "Let's go see if your sister's OK."

Israfil whispered quietly to himself, "...please, stop fighting..."
Hi hi! Sorry for the super late reply. FYI, I post fairly slowly TT_TT especially on weekends when I am gallivanting in MMO's with my brother. I can usually post more frequently on Weekdays as I am between jobs at the moment. So yeah, at best I post maybe twice a day, at worst, maybe 2-3 times a week (though I'll try my best not to let it get to that point). Anyways, just wanted to give everyone a heads up, I'm not ignoring you, I swear!

Anyways, enough about me, time to answer some questions, comments and concerns.

lol, one of my characters was actually like this, though his power was that of a level 5 x3 And yeah, he pretty much did the same as her, so if you got any questions, I can help! :D

Thank you for the offer! I'll ask if I need anything, though I'll try to use my own imagination as much as I can.

and if you have any questions about science, I'm a meganerd

Thank you too! Though I'm a meganerd as well, MS in bioengineering!

@Stern Algorithm Don't tell me you're secretly, Ryu-kun. You're giving me the vibe akin to #6 Level 5 lol
Or are you a guy from MF too? If so nice to see ya here!

Hmm your character is accepted. I got plans for it too. But I humbly deny the second signature, we can only have one signature for now.

I'm not Ryu-kun, i don't know who that is, though I'm assuming it's the NadareRyu you mentioned in your opening post, who I assume ran the predecessor thread on Mangafox? I'm not from the Mangafox thread, though I did find the thread because I was trying to look up who Kenobi was and what micro/macro meant (background research!). I read it only as far as figuring out that Kenobi was a non-canon character and what micro/macro meant. I feel a bit embarrassed, because I thought I was being original and clever when I made a sound user. I always try to make sound-user characters in powers-based RPs since I love sound powers and I think it's not overused, but it turns out Hebigami Shiho had made a similar character before, and from what you're saying, there was a Level 5 in the predecessor RP like that as well. Oh well, it's hard not to retread other people's footsteps unintentionally every once in a while. I hope my character can be interesting and unique enough on her own.

Thank you for accepting my character. I will remove the Capacity Down signature move, since story-wise, Level Upper is Shizuka's real goal. On that note, Level Upper works by connecting the minds of Espers, essentially, letting them use each other's processing power, so the larger the network the stronger each Esper becomes, and is not a true boost to an Esper's current level. I like for Shizuka to be able to boost her own power as well as her allies, what I don't like is how level upper can be used to 'steal' other Esper's powers (I hate power-stealing-powers in powers-based stories, it's seriously overdone, Rogue from X-men was cool, but there have been too many since). I bring this up to say that I am in no way trying to make Shizuka 'steal' her allies' powers to become "OMG super OP" unless that is something the academy decides to force her to do, story-wise.

Can I put Shizuka in the Character tab after I remove the second signature move?
I was thinking since she produces the sound with her body (it emanates off her skin) that it would resonate through her bones and she'd have no way not to hear it. But now that you bring it up, she could possibly produce a counter-wave (similar to how noise-cancelling headphones work). Yay harmonic superposition!
