Hey remember when this site didn't have 3 tabs in the IC threads? Crazy.

People like to nudge aside the fact that there's a level of commitment to hosting, and joining an RP. The majority of players don't have it in either case, regardless of how interesting an idea is.

I've been gone so long that I forgot what the status bar was like. It's like coming back to an old apartment, except it's not an apartment anymore, it's just two walls and a lot of heroine addicts.

Nihilist, but like, the cool type of nihilist, you know?
Alex withdrew himself and crossed his arms, tracing the outline of a lone spiderweb hanging daintily above Grace's crib, with its architect lowering itself towards the baby slowly, before zipping back up in a fright. Spiders were lucky. Everyone who feared them was too busy fending off far more dangerous intruders to pay them any mind. Alex should've known, his phobia of the little arachnids had nearly disappeared over the past year. There were worse things to obsessed over, like whether or not the next person he'd exchanged words with would try to slit his throat. Rowena assured everyone in the room that she was there to help, but Alex still held a reserved disposition around this newcomer.
"I'll come with you, Walter," Alex offered immediately, pushing away from the splintered chair with both hands, his eyes fixated on the spider above Grace's crib, "You may want to kill the spider, Nikki. It may upset baby."
@Lady Athena Oh please do try to keep up, btw. Right now you've got a 3-day grace period between posts, which will continue to drop if you take too long.
The giant spiders, or uh, Frighders... Yea, let's stick with Frighders! The giant Frighders were dispatched rather easily despite their size and power. One bite might have been rather dangerous, but Jenso's hammer struck beady set of purple, glossy eyes and lit them aflame, popping each one like an overflowing grape of spider gunk. The body of the spider curled up on reflex alone, leaving a spinning set of joint legs behind as its abdomen slider away from Jenso and into the woods.
Ainra's bow-shot had a similar effect, popping a set of eyes, and tearing into its brain-case like a real arrow would! Except unlike a real arrow, it caused the spider's head to burst open in a display of fire and spider gunk, spewing every which-way. They were free to travel further, but the feeling of being watched didn't fade...
Roleplay- "the acting out or performance of a particular role, either consciously (as a technique in psychotherapy or training) or unconsciously, in accordance with the perceived expectations of society with regard to a person's behavior in a particular context."
Ehm...
role-play·ing (also role-play) • n. 1. chiefly Psychol. the acting out or performance of a particular role, either consciously (as a technique in psychotherapy or training) or unconsciously, in accordance with the perceived expectations of society with regard to a person's behavior in a particular context. 2. participation in a role-playing game.
Noun [simplified] :an activity in which people do and say things while pretending to be someone else or while pretending to be in a particular situation
Noun [As used in the guild] -A thread, wherein people role-play.
verb 1. to assume the attitudes, actions, and discourse of (another), especially in a make-believe situation in an effort to understand a differing point of view or social interaction: Management trainees were given a chance to role-play labor negotiators. 2. to experiment with or experience (a situation or viewpoint) by playing a role
Would you look at that.
A roleplay(Noun) is something in which you roleplay(Verb). You may want to remember that nouns and verbs aren't the same thing the next time somebody makes a humorous comment about a role play inside of a role play. The phrase itself can be construed in multiple ways. In this case, it emphasizes the redundancy of collaborating (An activity which involves role-playing together in order to create a post) in an environment where people are role playing as individuals. Apologies if English isn't your native language, but the way a word can be used and understood, (Especially in comedy) can vary quite a bit.
For a person complaining on things NOT moving along in the rp, I'm a little surprised at your last few passive aggressive posts. Our post could have taken maybe (guess-ta-mating) five to fifteen minutes of RP time. In an exchange that would have NORMALLY taken at the rate of this posting two to three days of waiting to get back into the house, and Shortened it to about two hours of waiting time and moving the rp along. So there is a practical reason to use it, and not pointless. violentviolet is waiting for us to get it to night so she can move HER character along as well.
Passive aggressive posts? what are you talking about? And how do my posts in the OOC have ANY impact on the IC at all? Hint hint: They don't.
See but like, here's the thing. You were ALL online during that period of time, long enough to make 1-2 posts each, in the time span provided. It's not even comparable to 2-3 days, and I'm not sure where you're getting those figures from (Your ass?). If collaboration inspires people to put more time and dedication into the RP, then I can understand, somewhat. That much makes sense. But don't go claiming nonsense like 'it saves time, simply by condensing posts together' because in reality, assuming every poster spent that time making posts in succession in the thread, one after another, there would be little to no difference in progress. Even better, more posts gives more opportunity for actual character interaction/development. It also doesn't fuck with the pacing.
For example, the reveal that Ethan was a father? It just came out of nowhere, with no time for anyone to interject, or contribute. It's like they were all just standing there, idle, unable to really do anything in the time-prison that was 'Babies R us: Las vegas Reverence'.
Even if it did take forever, maybe people should just be patient? This is a forum, not a skype chat. There are hundreds of roleplays all moving at a relatively slow pace. Hell, my role play moved very slowly for quite a while because of a few problem posters. Know how we fixed that? We got rid of them, or they left.
But I guess I'm just a little ruthless when it comes to GMing. It's pretty effective though.
The excuse "I didn't have time to post" Is, and will always be an outright lie. There's a difference between not having time, and not having the drive/energy to take 10-30 minutes out of your day for a role play that you should probably be enjoying.
Also...even if they are with a group of people, they left the building. Thus the whole group wasn't together, which does happen in REAL life. Do you expect us to be in the same room with everyone the entire rp? When you have 10 people or more all trying to say something? It gets a little hectic and people don't interact with everyone and others feel left out because their post was ignored, it's quite impossible to do with out this happening. So it is essential to pull a group off once and a while for character development with other certain characters.
They left the building... IN THE COLLAB POST. Prior to it, they were still feasibly within interaction range of everyone else in the building. collabs are a lot less bothersome when it's with two people who aren't near everyone else, and not so obstructive, but they still stand out as giant, swollen boils in a thread where nearly every other post is its own entity from everything else.
As far as I'm concerned, things only get confusing when people ignore others who are clearly addressing everyone in range. It's already happened a few times (Surprise surprise) and I don't doubt that it will continue happening, regardless of whether or not there are collabs or not. It isn't essential to pull groups apart at all, but I don't disagree that it's a good idea. It just doesn't infer the need for collaborations.
At any rate, I don't care that much if people are collaborating, but I stand by the opinion that collabs are obtrusive, not very inclusive, and ugly to look at. It's not like I'm asking you to stop.
If my opinion gets you a lil' butt hurt, I could keep it to myself, if you'd prefer. But don't take your butt-hurt to the next level, and try to instigate something worse. I'm not here to get into a fight over semantics.
