Today's the first time in a long time that I've felt empty. Not even sad or tired, just empty. This quarantine is getting to me more than I thought.

@Jessica Bunny: You live in America! College is optional (and expensive) and around you is opportunity. I believe you can make it!

Karen closed her eyes to think. In all probability, the danger had now passed. "Yes, I think the teachers have seen to it already." Her pale little face scrunched up as she recalled her earlier failure. Once again, she reminded herself that she would never again let herself be conquered by fear. "I'm sure that we're all . . . safe now."

Her words died down as she caught sight of Bishop, shaking more than ever. He looked frightened, and a panicked look had rooted itself in his eyes. Karen was at a loss for what to do. She had never encountered a situation like this before. It occurred to her that she might comfort him, but she didn't know how. She wasn't used to being the comforter, rather than the comforted. All the same, she would not allow herself to be inactive. Doing the first thing that came into her head, Karen stood up and switched seats, sitting besides Bishop. Once there she paused - her father had done this with her whenever she was sad, but she didn't know if it would help.

She reached out her hand and patted Bishops head silently. Wordlessly, she stared Bishop in the eyes, unwavering and determined, all the while ruffling his hair.

@Flightless_Soul who are you and why do you know what I do my character does during the weekends? c(O_Oc)
Is this still open? If so, I wanna play the guy that constantly has his heads in the clouds thinking of vaguely philosophical thoughts at the most random moments and who seems just a wee bit autistic to everyone else, who is totally not a self-insert.

Meruin was entranced, looking at the fireworks on display at her teachers desk. The display of light and explosion had inspired a thought in her: How can I make my battles so much more glorious?

So entrapped was she in her wondering that she nearly missed Mr. Excavius's question. She listened the response of her classmate and wondered: what was it about the Philosophers Stone that had people entrance by it so? What exactly made it great? The power it gave? The abilities it could grant? She did not know, but she wanted to.

Clearing her thoughts, Meruin focused on providing an answer for her teacher. The first thing that popped into her head, for some reason, was Mistress Chase going off to hunt Gods from higher dimensions. Perhaps it was because of the fireworks?

"From my experience, the most impressive thing I have seen Alchemy capable of is reversing the laws of thermodynamics, thereby creating a 'perpetual motion machine' effect which therein makes it possible for normally impossible possibilities to occur, such as an unlimited energy source, movements beyond the speed of light, the breaking down of dimensions and the ability to destroy objects so utterly that its very concepts are erased temporarily from existence," answered Meruin in a monotonous, rapid-fire exposition. "Those are the most impressive feats I can think of at the top of my head, sir. Was it an adequate answer?"

She hoped it was. She wasn't too clear on the technicalities of Alchemy, as most of what she had learned was by first-hand observation of its use at higher levels, and Mistress Chase was not truthful all the time, so she might have been pranking her when she said that she used Alchemy to cause those explosions.

The fairy glared at Kieran. "Heard that, C'thulu Junior. I hope you don't have too much of a problem with fairies, because you're stuck with me until they find a replacement for your teacher. Anyway, it's about time you got here. I won't slap a demerit on you because it ain't your fault you're late, but I'll leave a warning that I won't tolerate it a second time." The fairy's smoldering eyes locked with Kieran's, making it clear that she was not keen on being taken lightly. "In any case, back to the topic at hand." Just as quickly as she had sparked, she had also died down.

With that, the fairy sat on top of the blackboard in order to be seen by everyone. Looking over at all the items held in her hand, she gave a small nod.

"Well, firstly, I would like to inform all that by the strict definition of our class, none of you hold a 'magical artifact' of any kind," she said with finality. "In fact, it is also highly likely that none of you have ever held or seen a magical artifact. The one's who think they know the reasons why I say this, please raise your hand and tell me why."

Karen was about to respond to Bishop that a stubborn horse was actually comparatively more difficult than learning how to ride a broom when the trait abruptly screeched to a halt. The vehicle began shaking and Karen could only look around, wide-eyed and confused as to what was happening. The lights went dark a the sounds of students screaming pierced the air, accompanied by flashes of light.

She had suspicions on what was going on behind their compartment.

The people that escaped from the prison!

A shiver ran down her spine as she realized that this was a very, very dangerous situation. Her body began shaking in fear as Karen slowly inched away from the door, unable to think of anything else. That was when she caught sight of Bishop, crouched by the door and shaking. He was afraid, but still ready to confront whoever was there to threaten them. It was then Karen realized how despicable she was acting.

Karen pulled out her wand, a red rage building up inside her. How dare she! How dare she cower and hide without so much as trying!

No no no no NO! she roared internally, her ears pumping with blood. She was just so angry with herself right now!

The wand began to issue small sparks from its tips as Karen lost her cool and crouched right next to Bishop. Her eyes blazed and she had stopped shaking. Taking a deep breath to calm herself, she readied her wand.

After awhile, things settled down, and it seemed the hijackers had been repelled. Karen settled back down into her seat, agitated, but not shaken - not anymore. She was too angry to be scared.

"Darn it all," she cursed. The incident had embedded itself into her memory - not for the terror it brought with it, but because it had made her feel so spineless, and she found that she absolutely loathed the feeling. "Never again, never again."

She looked up, finally feeling a little calmer. "How are you feeling, Bishop?" she said perfectly collected by now.
@FernStone Well, wish granted xD
@Slendy

Kenneth wasn't the only one who laughed. Several students also choked back chuckles, in a vain attempt to conceal their mirth. Death was never the easiest topic to touch upon, especially when it was done so with humor, but there were times when it couldn't be helped. The Substitute Fairy seemed to understand that much. In response to their hidden laughter, she sighed and waved a hand, trails of ember issuing from the tips of her fingers.

"Okay it's hilarious, I get it. Now shut up and let me take attendance or I'll show you exactly how funny death by explosion is." The class fell silent quickly.

After taking attendance, the fairy sat on the teachers desk, and scrunched her eyes, looking thoughtful. Looking up again, she questioned:

"Okay, how many of you have, or at the very least, are familiar with a 'magical artifact'? Raise your hands."

Several hands went up, some of them holding the artifact in question. Glowing staves, strangely shaped daggers, and other baubles were put up and shown.
@Eklispe You should feel bad, how could you :O

Also, @Slendy posting here to inform you that I edited you into my post because I forgot lol.
@Eklispe

Meruin tentatively walked into the room once more, feeling disoriented. Apparently, she wasn't wearing clothes, but they had rectified that - which she was thankful for. It seemed that the lack of clothing was what was responsible for that infernally cold air.

"Thank you for the clothes. It's very much appreciated," she said, looking over her new outfit. "I'll be sure not to forget to wear any next time." The affirmative manner in which she said it belied the fact that at some point, she probably would forget to wear them at some point. It was a distinct characteristic of hers: if they weren't important, then they weren't worth prioritizing - it just so happened Meruin had rather skewed hierarchy of priorities.

The short mage took an open seat next to Chen, yawning on the way. Her face impassive, she stared straight at Mr. Michael's face.

Artifacts Class

A the entirety of the class had gathered for Artifacts, and Kenneth was the last one in. Still he wasn't late - the teacher had yet to arrive. There was nobody here that he was familiar with, though a few of them did look up and inexplicably gave him a thumbs up.

The door clicked open and in floated a fairy the size of two palms. Her wings, hair and eyes were a glowing scarlet hue. The short fairy had a sour look on her face.

"Okay, okay, for those of you who are familar with this subject and wondering why I am here, it is because, as of now, I'm serving as your substitute teacher. Your supposed Articats professor went and got himself blown up during a dig for an ancient sword. We're looking for a replacement as of the moment, so you'll have to make due with me."
