Luigi had appeared next to Hapu. "Indeed! I'm waiting for Edward, our assigned leader," Hapu replied. "Perhaps it'd be best to stay together for now so as to make it easier for the others to gather."

Hapu slid off of Mudsdale's back and held out a hand to Luigi. She noted that she was about two thirds the tall plumber's size, but this mattered not to the kahuna.

"In any case, I'm glad that none of us have to tackle such a crisis alone; companionship is a value highly placed in the world of Pokémon," she added, gesturing for a firm handshake.

"Also, where did Samus go? I believe she was shortly behind me and Mudadale in terms of getting her vaccine?"

Hapu turned back to the portal. "Oh, whoops, there she is. I feel rather silly. Ho, Samus! And..."

Hapu didn't recognize the other man, James, by name. "I apologize, I had little time at the meeting to become acquainted with everyone before the briefing. I am Hapu."
Dang, now I feel like I gotta use my arts to do something for team 2 :P
@DracoLunaris

"Hapu was a kind of priest/guardian of a deity and their island and that Mudsdale was this guardian deity she was speaking on behalf of."

I'm dead
<Snipped quote by Etherean Fire>

1. GIMP. I'm absolutely one hundred percent certain that there's better programs out there, but GIMP does a fair amount of stuff, I can wrangle it to do more, and it's free.

2. Existing art, I'm afraid. At some point, I'll doodle our collective exploits. The "process", if you can call it that, was to take the various images, reduce them down to two colours using GIMP's threshold tool, make a mask out of that and then start colouring it in. Once that's done, they all get put into a new image in their own layers, and you just sort of start putting them in different places until you go "aha!" and are happy with the layout.

3. I have no idea! I shall christen it "First Thing In The Morning Art".

I thnk that qualifies as a form of collage, and a very pleasing one to boot.
My god, Team 2 is gonna be like the quietest team, lmao.
Tomoe

Annnnd civil discussion didn't work. What did she expect? Tomoe was on a battlefield trying (and undoubtedly failing) to calm down a bunch of angry soldiers stabbing an out-of-control manakete.

But when the bloodied Hero approached, eyeing her like a hunter would a deer, she knew she was quite in trouble. She had the weapon length to keep her distance from this warrior, and she was quite well-versed in defense techniques, but men with swords placed a lot of offensive pressure.

That being said, she did not want to harm this man over something as misfortunate as a misunderstanding. She would have to drive this powerful warrior away from Nyx.

Tomoe assumed a long-distance defensive stance, maximizing the amount of naginata she had before her while still maintaining control over her weapon. She did not intend to give the Hero she was dueling the luxury of having her distracted by making futile attempts at reason. Instead, she prepared to fend off the swordsman, twisting her weapon and attempting to force him into an awkward position that would buy the others time to help Nyx without having to deal with Tomoe's opponent.

In response to Naija, Hapu explained some of the nuances of her home. "Mudsdale is my partner Pokémon; a draft horse of the finest caliber," Hapu replied. "As for kahuna... those are the people chosen as liaisons for the guardian deity Pokémon. They are to oversee the protection of the islands and appease the mighty land spirits. In the case of my island, I am the humble servant of Tapu Fini, and therefore the servant of Poni Island, my proud home."

Hapu frowned. "As for those few whose ill spawns from goodwill... there was an incident in another region in the world of Pokémon about five years back. A group named Team Plasma. To help the creatures we call Pokémon... they have hurt not just people, but the very creatures they sought to protect. Blindly following the orders of a corrupt sage."

Hapu held out a hand. "But that is all I have heard; I was very young then. As I am now; and undoubtedly, I have much yet to experience. But here comes our briefing."

Hapu folded her hands and listened intently to the briefing (giving a somewhat aghast look to Mario as he plopped himself in between her and Samus, but being the youngest and newest kahuna she was used to condescension). It was a lot of information to process, but she recognized that it was all quite important, and thus, she paid the utmost attention.

"A world of magic, hm?" she remarked to herself. "Mudsdale doesn't fare well in the face of special-type attacks. I will have to be on my guard, for my Pokémon's sake..."

Thus came the time for Hapu's and Mudsdale's vaccination. Hapu stoically took her shot, and helped calm Mudsdale down enough for the horse to get its vaccine.

"It's okay, Mudsdale," Hapu said, stroking her horse's muzzle. She patted the horse's muddy hair as the doctor performed the procedure, and then Hapu returned the horse to its Poké Ball.

"Thank you very much," Hapu said, dusting off her lap. She immediately made haste for the portal; this was a crisis. No time for dallying. The Ultra Beasts did not wait for anyone, and Hapu conjectures that whatever this "Mugen virus" is, it would offer no better concessions to the game worlds.

She went over who she was assigned to; she was amongst the ranks of Luigi and Samus, but other than them, she was not quite sure who the others were.

Hapu was not quite used to Guile's military tone; hailing from the decidedly laid-back Alola region, the drill sergeant was not an archetype the kahuna had witnessed (though she was certainly aware of the man known as the "Lightning American" in the Kanto region). Whatever her thoughts, one thing was certain: it was time to get down to business.

"Mudsdale, we're going into a world to where we've never been!" Hapu declared, holding her Poké Ball in her hand. "No fear, partner! This is our duty, for if such a threat exists, then it isn't just Poni Island we must stand for!"

Hapu peered into the clear red case, watching the miniaturized draft horse Pokémon nod in agreement. Good, he is calmed; the mere pinprick is nothing to the mighty earth, she thought.

She tossed the capsule into the air, and it sprung open, releasing the brown-and-black horse in a flash of light. The mighty animal pawed the ground as Hapu climbed aboard. Despite being almost half the Pokémon's size, Hapu quickly saddled up and spurred Mudsdale onward. Mudsdale snorted and trotted forth, disappearing to worlds unknown, to the land of Raganival.

Mudsdale snorted and stomped on the loamy forest earth. Hapu was met with a fresh, deciduous air much different from the tropics of Alola. "Whoa," Hapu said to Mudsdale, to calm the horse Pokémon down.

Through the trees, Hapu could make out the dim silhouette of a castle. The trees were lush, the soil firm... and yet, Hapu knew if they were called to this place, there was sure to be the underlying danger. Of course, it was outlined in the briefing that danger was present...

Hapu decided it was best to wait for the assigned leader, Edward.

Hapu nodded to Luigi, Samus, and Naija. "A pleasure to make your acquaintances," she said. "And as representative of the world of Pokémon, Mudsdale and I will gladly work at your side to quell this new threat."

Hapu idly rolled her Poké Ball on the table. She surveyed the characters she would be working with; among those, a crazed, but well-meaning bandicoot, a mystical white wolf, a cheflike fellow with a long tongue. Hapu had to appreciate the variety.

And then there was herself. A well-traveled Alolan riding around on a draft horse. She herself was intrigued about what she had to offer to such an important cause; after all, she was still contemplating her role in representing the holy Tapu Fini.

Listening to Luigi and Naija's conversation, Hapu spoke up. "Perhaps, in regards to your brother, being willing to watch out for him and make sure that hero work does get done is heroic in itself," she remarked. "I believe it is a variable definition, with one constant: the desire to do the right thing..."

Hapu itched her chin. "That being said, it's more nuanced of a definition than some would like to believe. There are those who aware of the danger they themselves pose, and those that believe themselves to be the heroes and yet hurt so many people in the process... and I do not know which is more dangerous."

Hapu leaned back. "Ah, I don't mean to intrude; that is a question I have thought about since my appointment as kahuna," she explained.
Juana Perez

-Feyhollow Town - Waffle Shack-

"Ghost train? I ain't afraidda no ghosts," Juana replied, folding her arms and grinning, while at the same time referencing an iconic cartoon. "You just wait, I'll catch one of them spooky specters and we'll see who's scaring whom!"

Juana looked down at her plate. "Wow. Um, that was one long meal," she remarked, watching the sun go down. "Well, it's getting a little late to travel anywhere, and I've got no interest in getting mugged by a Flabébé on the way out of this forest. Maybe we could decide where to go tomorrow morning? 'Specially since Zephyr and Tefan are so far apart, and I want to see if there's a decent public transportation service that can allow us to hit both."

Bounsweet chirped. Juana smiled at her Pokémon, before handing it the Rare Candy she had bought earlier that day. "I should probably get a couple more of those so whatever new Pokémon I catch don't have to play catch-up," Juana remarked. "Speaking of which, I'm going to be heading to the Mart; Tora, Cillian, I'll catch up with you wherever you're going."

Juana got up and winked at Tora. "Thanks for treating me," she added, before pulling out her Poké Ball with Skorupi. I gotta get this one used to me, she thought. Those Poison Pokémon can be positively venomous.

Skorupi appeared in a flash of light, its pincers up and ready to stab something. When it found nothing to stab, it turned around and gave Juana a "what-the-Giratina-did-you-send-me-out-for" kind of look.

"Hi, Skorupi," Juana said.

Skorupi was staring.

Juana stared back.

"Okay, this is going nowhere," she said. I'll have to buy some other stuff from the mart, too. Just some simple treats, I suppose!

Juana walked in and purchased a couple of Rare Candies and a couple of Poké Balls, as well as a of Potion. In addition to that, she bought a bar of chocolate.

The cashier was giving her this funny look.

"Haven't you ever seen a girl with a live scorpion before?" Juana joked, scanning her Pokédex and running the TP transaction.

Juana and her Pokémon exited the market and started walking back to the Pokémon Center. A Comfey flitted by, carrying a string of flowers of many varieties. She spotted a few Mudbrays grazing some hay; they appeared to be returning to the town. The locals seemed to take this fairy stuff seriously.

If Juana ever came back she'd have to make sure she had a Steel type. Just in case. She wasn't scared, she would rather be prepared. Yeah, that's it.

Juana popped Dewpider and Corphish out of their balls. She sat on a couch and broke off a piece of the chocolate. "I bet Mamá's is better," she remarked. But alas there was no way she could make chocolate here, right now. That required ingredients. And stuff.

Juana fed the chocolate to her Pokémon; it appeared they quite enjoyed the taste of it.

A diminutive figure sat upon a muddy draft horse, observing the Tetris Castle from the crest of a hill. She and the horse had paused to contemplate how they had gotten there... it certainly was no easy getting there through the cables and wires and circuits of the video game world.

The horse snorted and pawed the ground with its clay-caked hooves.

"Verily, Mudsdale! We are close," the young lady declared, gazing towards the castle with her moony eyes. "It's just a short promenade away indeed; we shall be there within the half-hour."

Mudsdale, the horse, neighed and looked up at its rider.

"It won't be long now. Clearly this summons must be important," the rider declared, adjusting her purple bonnet. She was the Poni Island kahuna, Hapu, and she was ready for duty.

Hapu's thoughts drifted back to that morning, when her grandmother had given her an exquisitely-sealed envelope. In it were instructions addressing a crisis that would affect the entirety of the game world.

Being no stranger to crises despite her young age, the well-traveled kahuna responded promptly, saddling Mudsdale up and preparing to travel.

"Will you be safe, my dear?" Hapu's grandmother had asked.

"I shall stay safe, Grandmother," Hapu said. "Fret not; the holy Tapu Fini did not choose me as a farce."

Hapu and Mudsdale had to travel via ferry to get to any sort of game terminal, and from there, it was a trot, a skip, and a gallop to the hub of the seven kingdoms. Hapu hoped to learn something as kahuna from this whole ordeal.

These were Hapu's thoughts as she stood on that hill atop Mudsdale's back.

"The day isn't going to get any shorter," Hapu said, gently knocking the sturdy horse's flank. Mudsdale snorted, nodded, and started off in a trot down the road, towards the castle. Mudsdale picked up a leisurely speed, galloping at a steady gait. Hapu's black hair trailed behind her, as her eyes looked up with the sheer determination of an island kahuna.

Hapu knew there was no time for any pleasantries or social what-not; the air around the castle was that of business. One job after another; thankfully, Hapu was used to that.

"Mudsdale, you will have to return to your ball," Hapu said. "I'm quite positive they will not appreciate mud tracked on their floors."

Mudsdale gave an unhappy grunt.

"Fret not, my friend! You'll be out and about again in no time," Hapu said, stroking Mudsdale's muzzle. She dusted off her pants, and put Mudsdale in its capsule, before spotting several other of her fellow game characters and following them into the briefing room.

Immediately she overheard Super Mario talking about a food fight, and spotted the other characters sitting at the table. She produced the envelope she had received on Poni Island and held that in her gloved hand as she took a seat next to Naija. (She had to hang on to that; those in the higher echelons tended to be condescending to the short in stature and young of age. Even to a kahuna.)

"Good day," she said, nodding to Naija, Luigi and Samus. "I am Hapu; I presume you are here with the summons as well?"

Hapu placed Mudsdale's Poké Ball on the table; she wanted her Pokémon to hear whatever the council had to say.
