Current When it is time to write, I want to worldbuild. When it is time to worldbuild, I want to collab. When it is time to collab, I want to write. This is the cycle. These are the rules.

Sad to say I'm currently experiencing Writer's Block. Luckily I learned Writer's Kung Fu and I can chop the block in half with my hands like Bruce Lee

Why is the sun like bread? It rises in the yeast, and sets in the waist. Haha! Isn't that so cute? Join my RP or more puns will come.

What's the difference between a Hollywood actor and a piece of driftwood? One is Justin Timberlake. The other is timber, just in a lake. Hahathisiswhati'mdoinginsteadofwriting

Bio

Current RP I want you to join: roleplayerguild.com/topics/191461-car…

Hey y'all. I've been at this for about 12 years, and I've played a lot of kinds of RP. I like fantasy and sci-fi the most, just because they give me the most to worldbuild with, but I'm cool with almost anything. I just like writing.

im not joking though, i generally want to hear about this, its very interesting to me

edit: that sounds sarcastic but im dead serious legit

Very well.

After you have posted, I shall grant you all my bullshit naming wisdom.
<Snipped quote by Jeyma>

tell me all about your centuar naming conventions

I mean, I could literally write several pages on this, so don't even jokingly tempt me.
Not much time to respond, I'll be brief.

@Jeyma - Yes, fantasy monsters are allowed, but only some. A good rule of thumb is "Could this feasibly evolve on earth?" so krakens, unicorns, trolls, those are all fair game. Grells, beholders, and undead are a little more iffy. I'll allow genetic-illness werewolves and any magic that can be covered with some other vague science.

*Fills my nation with grells, beholders and undead then figures out ridiculous ways to justify them all*
@Jeyma

usually i take the personality/idea of the character and think of a consonant that relates to it. wit humans i just fuckin pick a name but with fantasy characters i use the other method. for example coming up with Kaezira's name i thought of Z's and K's cus those sounds in names sound sort of "high up" to me, like a rich person, or someone of power, like an arch-mage. then after i made his name i started thinking of the naming devices his race would use. i imagined them using two-in-a-row vowels for most of the names. T's sound strong to me and i had an idea of a big mighty leader for his dad so i used Tauzin, and his mom i thought of Helgen from skyrim for some reason so i created something similar.

also i fucking love J.R.R. Tolkien

I have a similar thinking process, except I prefer to focus even more on the culture and race they originate from. You have no control over the name you are given, so it doesn't necessarily fit your personality. I have a friend named Kevin- a sharp, quick name which is often associated with "coolness". But unlike his name would suggest, he's a fucking wimp who's probs gonna shoot up a school one day. However, the name is a common Caucasian name that is popular in cultures like Australia and America and England, and wouldn't you know, he's an American who's grandparents are from Australia... and he's white.

It's all about the culture, baby, all about the culture.

As a result, I base the name of a person off of what type of culture/religion/species they originate from.

Centaurs: I imagine them as proud, herbivorous but aggressive, and social. They probably have a strong sense of rhythm, to be capable of running so fast without tripping up their legs.

So I want a proud, mildly aggressive name that rolls well off the tongue (because of their rhythm). Not overly complicated, however, because Windleaf comes from a tribal people that would have needed to remember these names without writing them down.

Then I thought of their accents. I imagined they would use a lot of U, A, and long R's (I have a reason for making their accents the way I did, but I don't want to bore you)

Now, finally, I have a species/culture that would use proud, mildly aggressive, rolling names filled with U, A, and R.

Sutagara fits the bill!

P.S. Fair warning: until you post so Arkaotic can post so I can post, I'll have nothing to do except bother you all with centaur naming conventions.

I don't remember a lot of mine because sometimes I legitimately look around my room and see something and turn it into a name. Like the bad guy for one of my fantasy stories that didn't get anywhpere 2 years ago is named Leveran. I saw the body wash "Lever" and threw on the an. Bam. Named. XD

The name Shertul was wholesale ripped off from the Sher'tul in Tales of Maj'Eyal (a videogame).

Sutagara is named deliberately, though. I intentionally made it out of U's, A's, and R's, so it would fit in with the "centaurian accent" I made up. That's right. I thought of the accent and language before I thought of the characters. I pulled a fucking J.R.R. Tolkien on y'all.
I am so sorry *hangs head* For whatever reason, I know it's a t but every time I look at Shertul's name I see Sherful. And I pictured like woods around the village/town and figured that's where they were

I keep forgetting how to spell it, actually, and sometimes I can't remember it at all.

This is why I named my centaur Windleaf- I can't keep forgetting all these bullshit fantasy names I think up
Uh not quite. Carlisle, Kaezira, Windleaf, Daewyn, and Sybil are all at the edge of town I think where the Fleshspinner had shown up, Sherful and Sophia I believe have gone cavorting off into the woods, and then I'm not entirely sure what's going on with Gellert, Lark, and Amber XD

Indeed, assume that they're both heading towards the Wastelands, but are still deep in Terra.

Fleshspinner had shown up, Sherful and Sophia I believe have gone cavorting off into the woods

I have so many Carrie tribute pics on my computer now it's ridiculous.

Haven't been saving them, but my FB is basically just Carrie Fisher's tribute right now.
