Name: Blake WinterhawkAge: 28Gender: MalePersonality: At first glance, Blake often comes off as a serious, apathetic kind of guy, much resembling the type of gym he runs. However, a pleasant surprise awaits every trainer that talks to him after their battle. In actuality, he is very sociable and outgoing and doesn't hesitate to criticize young trainers, giving them advice about ways they can utilize to better train their Pokemon.
Blake is an overachiever. He always strives to be the best at everything he does, more so when it comes to breeding and training Pokemon. He will almost never turn down a battle and thrives in extreme environments and situations, mainly due to the experience he has gained from the regular wild excursions he went with his brothers when they were younger.
As for his family, although his father strongly disapproves of him being an Ice-type Pokemon trainer, Blake does not mind it that much. All the more, It gives him extra motivation to prove to his father that Ice-types are truly the best.
History: Blake's father, Joseph, served for 10 whole years as the Gym Leader of Blackthorn after the sudden disappearance of Clair, the gym leader before him. The current head of the Winterhawk Family, Former Gym leader of Blackthorn City Gym and one of the leading people when it comes to Dragon-types, Joseph Winterhawk was and still is, indeed, an accomplished man.
That, however, was not enough to make Blake a fan of Dragon-types for his interest had already been caught by another type, the Ice-type. His childhood, well, if there was one adjective to describe it, that would be adventurous. His two older brothers, James and Bracken were always there for him through good and bad times. When they were little, the three would venture together to the outskirts of the city. They would often sneak inside the Ice Path, exploring it for hours before their father came looking for them, worried that they might have lost their way inside the cave. Their luck didn't last for long though and one day, their fathers' worst fears came true.
The three brothers had gone on their usual little expedition inside Ice Path. Having explored most of the cave near the entrance, they decided to go a little deeper, figuring that if something went wrong, they could always return back by following their footsteps in the snow. Well, they were mistaken. Before they had left for the expedition, Joseph had warned them not to venture too deep inside Ice Path because the wild Steelix that made their home there had entered their breeding period and they were very aggressive towards anyone who they thought invaded their territory. The three brothers ignored their fathers' warning and went deeper and deeper inside the cave, straying away from the main path with every step they took up.
After half an hour or so, they had gone so deep inside the cave that they could no longer find the path back to the entrance. What's more, their footsteps in the snow had been covered with a thin layer of ice, making them indiscernible to the boys novice tracking eyes. That is when the Steelix appeared. Apparently, they had entered one of the nests where the female Steelix would gather and lay their eggs and as a result, the Steelix thought they were there to steal the eggs and tried to protect them. They attacked the boys and would have been almost killed if it wasn't for two brave Jinx that protected them from the danger by driving away the Steelix.
Blake couldn't believe his eyes. He couldn't believe it more so when suddenly out of nowhere, Piloswine and Swinub approached the three lost boys and helped them. They carried them on their backs, guiding them safely back to the main path and to the outside world. When they eventually returned home, their father was infuriated by their carelessness and grounded them for a whole month, actively preventing them from venturing inside the Ice Path by employing the help of some fellow Dragon Tamers who were placed at it's entrance, guarding it.
The spark had already been lit, though, and with the years, Blake developed a love for Ice-type Pokemon that would later shake the very roots of his family's traditions. At age 18, Blake set off on a journey in order to study Ice-type Pokemon. He traveled to every country and region, learning as much as he could about them. Around the time and before he began his journey, the whole thing with the Pokemon going feral and attacking trainers without reason happened and because of it, Blake faced a lot of hardships whilst traveling in the wild.
After traveling through Kalos, Blake decided to return back to his homeland and use the skills he obtained whilst traveling to use. He challenged his own father in a battle for the position of Blackthorn City Gym Leader. His father, after much consideration, agreed to it on one condition, that if Blake lost, he would release all of his Ice-type Pokemon and become a Dragon Tamer under the tutelage of Joseph. Blake agreed.
The ensuing battle was magnificent with Joseph later admitting that it was probably one of the best battles he had ever had, even though he lost. Both trainers and Pokemon fought fiercely, but the overwhelming type advantage Blake's Ice Pokemon had over his father's Dragon-types was too big for Joseph to overcome. As per their agreement, Blake became the new Blackthorn City Gym Leader.
Following Blake's victory over his father, the Blackthorn City Gym closed down for renovations. After five months, it opened up again, this time as an Ice-type gym. The cave behind the Gym is still home to many Dragon-types and Blackthorn, in general, is still considered the holy ground of Dragon-types, but they now have to make room for Ice-types as well.
Quirks/Habits/Others- Blake is 6ft tall and weighing just over 200 pounds or 90 kg.
- Unknown to him, whenever he gets mad, a bulging vein appears on his forehead.
- He has a mild case of germophobia. He never shares anything that has to do with food, drink etc with others. Other than that, he is perfectly fine with whatever your typical germophobe might be afraid of.
- Continuing in the footsteps of his father, he also has developed the bad habit of pulling pranks at the trainers who come to his gym in order to challenge him.
