Contrary to popular belief, Astraia Astor and Santiago Fernandez had not hooked up in the Salvador office. Instead, they finally put an end to the tension that had them hostage since Yessi’s return to Florida. On her end, the blonde had explained in detail why she had left so suddenly, why she hadn’t bothered to contact Diablo, and how the reason behind her and Aurelio’s return was to patch things up with those they’d left behind before returning to South Korea. On his end, Santiago told Yessi all about April, his feelings for her, and the news of his impending fatherhood. Worries had been soothed, advice had been exchanged, laughs had been shared and any remaining ill feelings had been put to rest. When all was said and done, the two young adults officially closed their chapter together with a long, emotional embrace.

Diablo and Yessi were exiting the office to go back to their friends when a familiar voice rumbled across every corner of the Salvador home.

“Good evening, King’s Academy! How’s everyone doing tonight?”

Santiago’s blood turned to ice, gray eyes widening. He exchanged a look with the blonde before they both rushed to the stage just in time to hear April shout out to the whole school that she was pregnant with his baby.

He could feel the eyes of everyone in the room digging into him and the whirlwind of gossip start as he waited for April to leave the stage. She was about to walk out the door when he reached out and grabbed her arm to stop her. What the fuck is wrong with you?!” he hissed at her, the clown makeup making his furious face look menacing.

“What the fuck is wrong with me? I have trust issues apparently. And hmmm, why do we think that is?” April paused for a second, her once triumphant mood replaced by frustration. “No answer? Maybe it's because I can’t let you go to a party without you fucking anything that breathes. Or maybe its because that on top of the fact that you wanted to come alone, you still had the audacity to ask me to stop racing. As if you give a fuck!” April took in a breath and composed herself. She needed to be the bigger one here, not the irrational one. “Let's talk outside before we embarrass ourselves anymore.” she said, turning on her heel and heading towards the door.

We?” Santiago called out to April, feet firmly planted on the ground and making no motion to follow her anywhere. “I’m not embarrassed about a damn thing! I wasn’t the one jumping to wrong conclusions and making a fool of myself in front of the whole damn school! And don’t you fucking keep blaming me for your trust issues, April: I made it very clear to you from the very beginning that what we had wasn’t meant to be serious! How many times do I have to fucking remind you of that?!”

April stopped in her tracks, turning around to face him a few paces away. “So homecoming was a lie then huh? Oh, Lils, I think I’ve fallen in love with you. Lils, I’m sorry I’ve been such a douchebag to you. Lils, I’ve really fucking missed you. She said, faking a small dainty voice as she spoke. “It wasn’t meant to be god damn serious until it suddenly was, Santiago, and yet you come out here and the first thing you do is fuck god damn Yessi. Can I just say, predictable as usual.” April’s eyes shot daggers into the young man before her, further intensified by the yellow tinted contacts that hid her usual eye color.

“And here we go again: jumping to the wrong conclusions! It’s turned into your new fucking sport, Lils!” Diablo sarcastically snapped, shaking his head and rolling his eyes at April. “First off: I meant every single thing I said to you at Homecoming- that’s part of the conversation I had with Yes, believe it or not. But since you’re so fucking sure I was screwing Yessi, go ask your boyfriend Kavi to show you the footage from the security camera in the office. Because I swear on my grandmother’s grave that you won’t see me tongue-deep in Yessi’s mouth like you were with him less than ten minutes ago,” he added bitterly, his voice dripping with pain and hurt that only intensified when he saw the expression in April’s face. So it really was her in that video with Kavi… Just like he’d feared. “Or did you think that by taking your usual shots at me I wouldn’t find out?”

April felt the blood drain from her face and her hands get cold. His words hit her like bullets, every single one of them stinging more than the last. It wasn’t that she was shocked that he’d found about the kiss with Kavi, it was that she had lost the moral high ground. She was the cheating asshole now. She was the one that Santi needed to be mad at. April took in a shaky breath, swallowing hard. Her eyes never left Santi’s, but every moment of silence between the two she felt smaller and smaller.

“I…I am s-so...so so so so sorry…” April squeezed her hands into fists to hide how they shook, stammering over her words as she spoke. Anyone around them that was paying attention could see that April looked absolutely mortified, the same look one would have if they’d hit a kid on the street with their car.

“Y-you…you don’t owe me anything...b-but can we talk outside now? April asked, her voice still evidently shaky.

The young man nodded, and followed her lead as she brought him over to her car, far enough away that they wouldn’t be overheard. When they’d reached their destination, he turned to face April, his broad arms crossed in front of his chest. Well?” he asked a bit more coldly than he’d meant to, raising a questioning eyebrow.

“I guess it’s my turn to be the cheating asshole who needs to apologize. The cool outdoor air on their silent walk outside had really helped to calm her down a bit. “I guess I have no reason not to trust you about what you did with Yessi. I’m sorry that I jumped to that conclusion Santi. Not that I’m trying to make excuses--because I’m not--but I guess I was just thinking the worst because you didn’t want me to come.” April shook her head. It sounded so stupid now that she had said it, but it was the truth. “It was a shitty thing to do, and I guess I really didn’t help it any when I...when I made the announcement. She looked down to the ground with these words, wishing she could take it all back.

Diablo was quiet for a moment, taking his time to organize the racing thoughts in his head before speaking up. “The kiss itself isn’t what has me so upset. It’s who you did it with, that it was meant to spite me for something I didn’t even do, and how you said that scum’s been there for you when I wasn’t,” he admitted, pinching the bridge of his nose to hold back the tears that were burning his eyes.

“Look, Lils: I’m not perfect. I know I’m a piece of shit, and I know I haven’t given you any reason to trust me- I swear I’m fucking trying to fix that. But you’re making it so damn hard for me, you know? I haven’t so much as thought about being with someone else, yet you’re quick to assume I’m still fucking everything that moves. When I decide I need some time to clear my head and ask you for space, you don’t respect that. You keep hounding me and hounding me instead, and it makes me feel like I’m fucking suffocating. The only way I know I can get some peace is to disappear altogether. And I’m not saying this to play the victim or any of that stuff: I just want to be upfront with you. Just think about it: how are we supposed to make things better if the attempt is one-sided? I can’t be the only one making an effort here, Lils. You’ve got to give me a hand.”

“I really want to apologize for...for kissing Kavi. I made an assumption and decided that if you were allowed to do it, so was I. I’m really, really sorry for going behind your back and doing that.” April took a deep breath, taking in everything Santiago was telling her. “I didn’t realise that you felt I was suffocating you when you needed space… I’m just scared. I’m fucking terrified with this happening and got angry when you weren’t there. And the assumptions...there’s no excuse for that. She looked up to Santiago, tucking her hair behind her ear. “It was a shitty thing to do. I’m sorry.”

Santiago didn’t know what it was about April, but she always managed to hit that soft spot he never even realize he had in the first place. He reached forward and wrapped her in his arms, nuzzling his face in her hair and kissing the top of her head just like he’d done back at Homecoming. “And I’m sorry for making you think I was running away from you. I love you, Lils: I really do. I said I’d be there for the both of you and I mean that. You’re having my fucking kid, for crying out loud. There’s no way I’d ever leave you like that.”

“I feel like we could’ve done better--and I’m not pointing fingers, neither of us are great at this evidently--had we talked about this kinda stuff. Maybe we just need to open up like this whenever something’s up.” She hugged him tightly, letting out a long sigh as she pressed her head into his chest.

“I agree,” he admitted, stepping away from the embrace. His gray eyes stared at her beautiful face for a second, and he took a moment to wipe the tears off her cheeks. “From now on, we’ll start working on being better towards each other. We have to make things work before the baby comes, right?” he added with a laugh, taking a moment to place his hand on her stomach where he knew the beginnings of a bump were starting to show. The young man knew April was a really sweet girl, and he felt awful for being the reason she felt so insecure. He’d definitely try to fix that.

“Right.” April nodded, a smile returning to her face as Santiago’s hand pressed against her.

Diablo took a moment to give his girl a soft kiss before offering up an escape plan. “What do you say we get out of here, grab some snacks and watch a movie back at your place? I didn’t even want to come here in the first place. I can’t wait to take this stupid makeup off…” he complained with a chuckle.

“Agreed. And that sounds like a good idea. I was never one for these big parties anyway.”

There was a new spring in Valeria's step as the shorter girl made her way down the lobby of the Bellagio Hotel. Her bright smile seemed to outshine the glitz and glamour of the room around her, and her cheeks were glowing with the remnants of last night's victory. In the words of one Selena Gomez: it was magical, lyrical, beautiful. The five years of waiting had definitely been worth it. And if she took into consideration how they’d had one last go at each other before meeting the rest of the group this morning, Val was confident that she’d made her best impression.

Nate’s eyes were wide as he entered the Bellagio next to Valeria their shoulders touching as they walked. He had never seen anything this extravagant in his life. His camera was plastered to his face his finger on the trigger clicking away. Finally Nathan turned the camera on Val, but the girl was too engulfed in her phone to notice. “What could possibly be more interesting than all of this?” he laughed as he took a final picture of the beautiful glass sculpture.

“Just gimme a sec. One of my cousins had an emergency and we’re giving her advice in the group chat, Val told Nate, her thumbs and eyes glued to the device in her hand.

A few holidays ago, the adults of the Diedrikson, Wallenberg and Drake families had conspired to give each and every one of the eleven children a cellphone as a Christmas gift. It was on that day that The Sisterhood was born: a group chat composed by the seven ladies in their generation, with each screen name inspired by a childhood cartoon that best fit their personalities. Valeria Drake was Ashley Spinelli: the short, tomboyish girl from Recess. Mads Diedrikson was Marie, the white-furred, prissy and spoiled kitten of the movie The Aristocats. Frankie Diedrikson was Daria Morgendorffer: the pessimistic, cynical, sharp-witted teen from the MTV animated series of the same name. Lottie Diedrikson was Sailor V: the athletic, friendly and resilient blonde of the Sailor Moon manga. McKayla Diedrikson was dubbed Squidward by her cousins, only because of her party-pooper attitude towards the chat name idea in the first place. And Ingrid and Astrid Wallenberg were, of course, Thing 1 and Thing 2: the hyperactive, inseparable twins from the Dr. Seuss books.

What had started out as a space to share dumb memes and annoy each other eventually became the place to go for all types of advice, and the best way to keep each other updated about the occurrences in each other's lives. That day, none of her cousins were having an emergency, or even asking for advice. Instead, it had been Valeria to summon the girls out of hiding so she could narrate the latest chapter in the teen drama that was her life recently.

Nathan shifted his attention from scribbling in his notebook to the fast tapping of Val’s fingers on the phone screen. He knew it wasn’t right but he had to know what was going on. A wide grin spread across the young man’s face as he caught the tail end of a long group chat he suspected was her girl group. He cleared his throat, “I wouldn’t say I was ripping them off… you helped some.” he laughed softly returning to his journal.

When Nate’s comment reached her ears, Val jumped in surprise, nearly dropping her phone into the nearby fountain. “Were you literally just reading my messages?” she asked him as the heat quickly rose to her face, cheeks burning red at the thought of Nate having read everything she’d just said in that chat.

A pang of guilt hit him in the stomach. “Yeah… yeah I was I’m sorry.” he bit his lower lip tapping his pen on his closed notebook. “I was just worried about your cousin.” he smiled at his lame attempt at a joke.

“Worried about my cousin?” Val repeated in disbelief, raising an eyebrow before scoffing. “You’re so full of shit,” she told him, chuckling and shoving him playfully.

“What does solid af mean?” he asked, hiding a laugh.

And when he asked that, the flush returned to Val’s face with a vengeance, and had the usually cool girl in a fit of nervous giggles. “You know what it means! It means that you weren’t, you know, small, in that aspect. That you weren’t disappointing.”

It was Nathan’s turn to blush now “Oh… thanks, I guess.” he shifted a little in his seat, and the two let the embarrassed silence fill the space between them. When AJ asked the group what they should do Nathan jumped at the chance to shift the conversation to something other than his solidness. “Oh yeah! Food! Great idea man!” he piped up.

“Agreed,” Val added eagerly. “I can feel my cheeks disappearing the longer I go without food.”

“Anything particularly good in here?” the taller boy smiled at the Gearhead.

“If you want an apology for wanting to please you, then you can forget it. When you tugged at me back at the Ball, how was I supposed to know you wanted to go to the hospital? All you said was we needed to go. The least you could’ve done was specified what you wanted before misleading me. Is that so much to ask?”

Was Alexandros really that oblivious to notice her less-than-ideal health state? The bronze glow that always illuminated Audrey's skin was nowhere to be found, her naturally olive complexion ashen and pale. The playful spark in her eyes was missing, replaced instead by an unfamiliar tiredness with dark circles underneath. There were no hand gestures while she spoke, no immediate reaction to his words, no attempt at interrupting him halfway through his spewing bullshit in the way she normally would. Usually, Alex was pretty good at reading between the lines and guessing the intentions behind her words. In their short time together, he'd learned how to read her body language and actions, and his assumptions were correct most of the time.

But tonight? Alex wasn't getting the message.

Fucking fantastic.

“I don’t want your fucking apologies, Alexandros!” Audrey finally spat in frustration once she'd regained her energies, slamming her hand against the armrest between the driver and passenger seats of his car but making no motions to sit back up. How was he still so blind?! “Do you not fucking see how pale I look?! Are you really that stupid to think I wanted you to screw me when I look like a zombie straight out of The Walking Dead? How the fuck can you think I was mislead-”

But before she could finish the rest of her sentence, Audrey suddenly fell silent. Her vision began to get hazy at the same time her head started spinning, and the sensation of being lightheaded began to take over. The brunette felt her extremities become limp, while the energy seemed to be sapped away from the rest of her body. The last thing Audrey remembered was hearing Alex’s voice frantically asking if she was okay before the world faded off into darkness.

Hundred bands in my pocket, it's on me
Hundred deep when I roll like the army
Get more bottles, these bottles are lonely
It's a moment when I show up, got 'em sayin': "Wow"

Being a child of the Mossos family came with a fair share of privileges. The prestige of the family name, the vast amount of wealth at your disposal, the reverence of your peers, the envy of your enemies… It was truly something out of a movie. But when you were the favorite Mossos child, you were blessed to receive more compensation than the rest of your siblings- or, in this case, your cousins. Because Alexandros Mossos saw so much of himself in his oldest nephew, he’d started to groom the young man to become the heir to the family industry, and discreetly favored him above his own two sons. This was how Dante Mossos always managed to score the coveted keys to his uncle’s oceanside villa to throw his legendary back to school parties.

And this one was no different. At half-past ten, the party was in full swing. A large group of affluent teens danced along to the loud music blaring from the state of the art sound system in the living room. Rainbow-colored lights from a rotating disco ball illuminated the inside of the venue, while the smoke machine in the corner added an extra layer of boujie to the whole thing. Bottles on bottles of alcohol and large kegs of beer decorated the kitchen counter, while the refrigerator harbored cold water and soft drinks for the wimps who didn’t drink. Outside, the pool lights, a strand of fire-powered lamps, a large fire pit and the moonlight were the only source of illumination. A beer pong table was perched on one side of the villa, with members of the football team huddled around it in a particularly intense round of the game. Inside the pool, Ella, Courtney and the rest of the cheerleading team shifted between chatting around and playing with the inflatable beach balls lazily floating on top of the crystalline water. And in the hot tub, Xander was getting cozy with his girlfriend Vera.

Dressed in a red, short-sleeved Hawaiian shirt, khakis, matching Sperry loafers, Dante looked approachable for what was probably the first time in his life. The man of the hour made the rounds around the house, with a triumphant smile on his face and an open beer bottle in his right hand. He shook the hands of those he knew, high-fived those he didn’t, took selfies and snaps with those who asked, and even kissed the cheeks of a few of his very willing ex-flings. It was during his last lap that the Mossos male approached the pool, deciding to check in on his adoptive sister and her friends.`

“You having fun, El?” Dante called out to Antonella as he crouched beside her at the edge of the pool, offering his adopted sister a small smile.

“For sure!” the tanned-skinned girl replied cheerfully, shooting her big cousin a bright smile. “You did a good job with this one, D. I’d say it’s your best party yet!”

“Had to make the last one count, right?” he said with a chuckle, winking at Ella. “Let me know if you or the girls need anything, k? I’ll get any of these losers to bring it to you,” D assured her, jerking his head in the direction of the jocks.

Ella eagerly nodded. “Of course! Now go have yourself some fun. You’ve earned it!” the brunette told him sweetly, winking back at the young man.

Kissing the top of her head, Dante stood up and walked in the direction of the back porch, taking a seat on one of the empty cushioned chairs. He smoked a cigarette in between swigs of his beer, ignoring the sounds of the raging party around him and focusing on the sprawling waters of the Atlantic stretching out in front of him. As he stared at the ocean waves, his thoughts went back to the beautiful redhead he’d been teasing all week, wondering if Aurora Quill would allow herself the opportunity to let loose and have some fun for once.

After all, the night was just starting out.

The sounds of a tennis ball hitting the concrete wall of the courts of Carnation Island rhythmically interrupted the faint music coming from the pier. A short girl in a soft pink Adidas tennis dress, white cap, white sneakers, and her hair up in a blonde ponytail could be seen running up and down the court in the distance. With a pink and gold racket in her hand, the girl chased after the small green balls coming from the mechanical device on the opposite side of the court and across the net, whacking each of them into the wall with cutthroat precision. Beads of sweat covered her forehead, her chest heaving and her body aching with exhaustion, but showing no signs of giving up. After all, the pain of a broken heart and the bitterness to match were the perfect fuel for her sudden workout session.

To say Charlotte Diedrikson had been counting down the days to her beach getaway wouldn’t be an understatement. One of the main reasons behind her enthusiasm behind the trip to the island was to get her mind away from her tragic breakup. Luca Astor had been her very first everything. From the moment young Lottie found out the meaning of a crush, she knew that Luca was the one who owned her heart. She’d always felt some type of way towards him even as a kid, but the teenage hormones had turned the once-innocent thoughts into some that would make grown women blush. They eventually shared their first kiss, and he made a promise that he would be her first if she was patient for a while longer. Lottie did so, and on her eighteenth birthday, she and Luca became tangled up in the most serious, intense romance she had ever experienced before.

Sure, she’d had a relationship before (with the adorable stud Dax Barker), but it certainly didn’t come anywhere close to this. Luca as a boyfriend was something pulled out of her daydreams, and those five years of waiting had certainly given her everything she wanted and more. He was sweet but not overbearingly so, attentive but not suffocating, dominant in all the right ways, showering her with love and attention and treating her like a queen. The more time went on, the closer they became- and the thrill of sneaking around only added fuel to the flames.

So what if her father would surely raise hell if he found out his youngest daughter was messing around with the oldest son of a family friend? So what if her sisters had warned her things would end up badly? so what if her cousins had told her to be careful? Charlotte loved Luca, trusted him blindly, and truly believed with all of her naive little heart that he would never hurt her.

Oh, how wrong would she be.

Because just when it seemed like their relationship was reaching its full potential, Luca decided that it was time to go their separate ways.

And so, here she was: smacking some balls to a wall in what was supposed to be her island getaway, while her playboy ex-boyfriend that everyone warned her about probably forgot all about her between the legs of some slut.

Fuck his ass.

It was only after the last tennis ball had hid the concrete wall hard with the loudest POP! yet across the court that Charlotte was finally forced to take a break. She doubled over for a moment, chest rising and falling while she caught her breath. Eventually, the short girl slumped back against the nearest wall and dramatically slid down, lying face-up under the shade on the concrete floor.
