Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

RP Thread
The year is 2032. It's been ten years since the first Nephilim arrived. Without warning, without any identifiable reason, the earth came under attack by the immense alien life-form. It devastated Earth's defensive forces and brought immense destruction across the planet. Eventually, it came down to an experimental weapon developed by Doctor Kawaguchi Genji. Doctor Kawaguchi attacked the Nephilim with the weapon. He was successful in driving it off, but not before it took heavy damage and he perished in the fight. The weapon was a highly unique one: It ran on the principles of science, and was constructed with sophisticated technology. However, its methods of running and producing energy were unlike any that had ever been seen before. Only one word could describe the power that Doctor Kawaguchi had harnessed:

Magic.

The scientific community was in shock, but this wasn't the time for such things. Analysis of the attack indicated that this would not be the only Nephilim attack. An estimation of the time it would take for another attack to occur was released: Ten years. In ten years, the Nephilim would return, and it seemed to all that there would be no way to combat it. Worse still, it was speculated that this wouldn't be the only Nephilim.

It seemed like things were as bad as they possibly could be, until Doctor Kawaguchi's daughter, Kawaguchi Sumiko, stepped forward. She declared that she would take Doctor Kawaguchi's damaged weapon and his research, and prepare it for the future. Kawaguchi Sumiko's work received extensive government funding. The organization SEED was formed in order to facilitate her research and study methods to combat the Nephilim. The largest SEED base is in Tokyo, Japan, as that is where Sumiko lives and works. SEED has been preparing since its formation in 2023 for the return of the Nephilim. It has extensive anti-Nephilim measures, based off of data received after the first Nephilim attack. SEED's technology features small mecha and a variety of advanced weaponry. However, SEED's real hope has always laid on Doctor Kawaguchi's weapon.

Ten years later, and the Nephilim are about to attack once more. But that's not the only thing that's gone as predicted.

Kawaguchi Sumiko's work is finished at last.
So, um, some rules first!

-Magitech Girls working with SEED must be female, for reasons that will be revealed in the RP. In addition, they must be aged from ten to eighteen, no younger or older. Reasons for this will be revealed in the RP as well.
-Magitech Girls will start the RP without knowledge of their abilities.
-While magitech girls are the focus, players can play as SEED operatives. At the same time, I would like magical girls to be first character choice, so to speak. In addition, SEED operatives will not be as effective against Nephilim.
-Nephilim are not a playable character group, they will be handled by me.
-While the premise is serious and will be taken seriously, this RP is not intended to be dark and can be light-hearted and humorous at times even. Keep this in mind with signups.
-Realism is not a major concern of this RP at all.
My characters:

Name: Musashibo Ayaka
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Appearance: In MagiGear.
Personality: Ayaka is the type to take things aggressively seriously. Her schoolwork, her sports, she's pretty serious about it. Not that she can't relax and calm down otherwise, that's certainly not the case. But when it comes to what she feels is her duty, or something important to her, she's very serious about it. Ayaka can also be rather irritable, insulting others if they get her angry enough and tending to react with great irritation to perceived stupidity. Of course, this is actually because she wants others to be safe and sensible rather then just wanting to insult others. Ayaka can also be rather taunting towards others, something of a tease when she's not annoyed or doing something she feels is serious. Ayaka is driven by a will to succeed and do her best, to keep going and never stop. She does not accept failure from herself.
Brief Backstory: Ayaka was born to a pair of researchers who worked with Kawaguchi Genji on his radical new systems and technologies. Both parents had a high drive for success and were highly intelligent, things they instilled into their daughter from a young age. Especially her father, who encouraged her to always do her best and never accept failure. Her father's drive led to him remaining with Doctor Kawaguchi as he hastily worked to complete his weapon against the Nephilim. Her mother, too, remained. While her mother was injured, but alive after the following attack by the Nephilim, her father disappeared. Since then, Ayaka's drive to succeed has grown even further, to respect the wishes of her disappeared father and her still-present mother and excel beyond anyone else. Her mother has received word from SEED, recently, about something very, very important...
Abilities: Ayaka is a member of the tennis club and is excellent academically.
Powers: Ayaka has high-levels of self-confidence, resulting in a high level of synchronicity for her MagiGear. As with all magitech girls, she is capable of flight in her MagiGear, and her personal ability is the generation of lasers independent of her MagiGear, currently rather small. As per usual, MagiGear is still required to actually make use of this ability, but her weapon is not. Ayaka's MagiGear, labeled Demolition Girl, is decently durable and allows for quick motion.
Weapon(s): Ayaka's weapon is a large sword, charged with energy and capable of dealing a great deal of damage when used as both a slashing or piercing attacks. It has a second mode, where the blade opens and unfurls and it transitions to a fully-ranged energy cannon, producing thick beams of magical energy that tear through opponents. The modes are called Sword Form and Blast Form, respectively, triggered by a voice command.

Name: Kawaguchi Sumiko
Age: 27
Gender: Female
Appearance: "If I can make a suggestion..."
Personality: Doctor Kawaguchi Sumiko is a dedicated researcher. She seeks entirely to honor her father's memory and live up to the mantle he passed to her, to develop the technologies he left behind in order to fight and destroy the Nephilim. She is deeply fascinated by technology in all forms, especially the "magic" left behind by her father. She is perhaps the single person in the world most equipped to deal with such devices. Sumiko enjoys speaking about such technologies but is really rather distant from regular human contact. Indeed, Sumiko is rather odd when interacting with others and seems more excited to "examine" the candidates them simply meet them. She's fascinated by their link to the technology they will wield and is incredibly eager to see them use the MagiGear. Sumiko has a rather low level of human contact beyond her research associates and the heads of SEED, which truly leads to strange interactions with other people. Sumiko is also fascinated with many anime and manga, especially that of the magical girl and mecha genres.
Brief Backstory: Sumiko is the daughter of the famed scientist Doctor Kawaguchi Genji. She grew up raised on science, and developed a fascination with it early in life. She spent most of her free time tinkering or studying various things, even from a very young age. Well, or watching much less scientific things. At sixteen, she was remarkably accomplished and even acknowledged as a scientist herself. However, her social life faltered due to her focus and she developed into a rather eccentric girl. Her father's death was a devastating blow, but that didn't stop Sumiko from deciding to continue is research to prepare for the Nephilim's return. She began to plan out the MagiGear and analyze the Nephilim even before the formation of SEED, and one the organization was created she presented her research in full. She became the Project Head for the MagiGear, and has been working ever since. Now, the only thing needed for completion are the candidates.
Abilities: Sumiko is highly intelligent, an absolute genius in multiple fields, especially that of technology. She is also the best authority on Nephilim.
Occupation: MagiGear Project Lead, Head SEED Researcher

I might, um, I mean it's certainly not progressing at the moment, um...
There are, in fact, plenty of anime that feature fantasy elements in the modern day without any change to modern technology level.

The reason I didn't address anything else about the bio is because I was waiting to talk with Tachi about it. And they did get a response when they posted about making a second character to make their first lighter, but they never made that character.
The technology is equivalent to today's technology, we don't exactly have battlesuits.

Also the explanation for the monster dens was because they're meant to be for people who want combat that's not against PC's. Otherwise the only potential combat for people who want it(and there should be options as this is a sandbox RP) would be against PC's, and not everyone is into that.
I'm... stuck deciding something about Nanoha that is kind of important. ^^;

It says it's sandbox and light-hearted but then every PC is, you know, a monster hunter of some sort in a town that's practically surrounded by monster dens. That implies some level of combat focus. As a side note, how would you feel about a PC that uses advanced technology such as a battlesuit instead of magic and chi n whatnot.

One of my characters is not a fighter, one of them only fights if pushed, the monster dens are only hazardous if you go in, they're just there for people who want them. Tachi's first character is only a fighter if pushed as well. They're not all monster hunters.

... Even my fighter character just fights anyone, she's not so specifically a monster hunter.

Fighting is only a small part of the RP.
It's called a sandbox right in the OP. ^^; Those are there for the people who want them.
Um... everyone realizes this isn't combat-focused, right? The combat is entirely optional and a side-thing?

... Also those powers are reeeeaaally vague and easily broken.
Hum. I'm not sure, maybe I suppose... still kind of disappointed at what happened here.
I'm aware straightmen are important for comedy.

My issue is that the way you've described his personality makes him seem very difficult to approach because it focuses chiefly on his stoicism. There's no problem with a straightman, quite the opposite, but...

I suppose it's a bit hard to put into words, especially since I don't usually do character stuff after 12:00. I might try and get back to you tomorrow.

Though I can say that comparing him to Guts might not be the best idea given the tone of Berserk compared to this RP. ^^;
