Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

The rivalries between schools have only deepened. Be it the use of different gods, the different approaches in methodologies, any number of explanations, it seems there is little that any Ritual Technology school can agree upon.

It was long ago that Ritual Technology became more commonplace. The usage of the conjunction of magic and technological advancement came to be known by such a name regardless of the amount of ritual involved in it. It became apparent, over the years, that the usage of Ritual Technology was an important part of the modern world, including in combat. After all, the darker things in the world proved to linger... though it has been many years since a true threat resurfaced.

As a result, there came the founding of schools explicitly based around the use of Ritual Technology. A normal education along with use of such abilities was simply a part of the curriculum. However, merely being a school would not foster the development of abilities with Ritual Technology very well. A deeper tie to the mystical elements of the world was required.

For this reason, each Ritual Technology Academy was built around a shrine, designed to successfully form a pact with a major deity. This pact would ensure defense for the school, and even a materialization of that deity, albeit weakened due to incarnating on the mortal plane. It would also foster true advancements, true learning for students.

However, well... for any number of reasons, including the rivalries between deities themselves, these schools soon became opposed to one another themselves.

To avoid any dangers that might come between real clashes between these schools, a system of non-lethal tournaments was put in place. Students from all over would meet and do battle to prove their school superior. After all, the combat training they received would surely be put to good use then, wouldn't it?

For it has been many years since something truly has threatened humanity. But could it again...?

Otsuki Academy is not the oldest Ritual Technology school. It isn't the most prestigious among them, either. But still, the administration holds pride and hope in its students. And in turn, a strong desire to win an Academy Tournament. Unfortunately, the student body has consistently failed at this.

That's not to say that they completely fail, but it seems that, always, the last round of fights leads to their loss. Every single time. Initially the Academy was able to take pride in this, but as time wore on, well... it almost became worse they outright losing. After all, to come so close every year only to lose builds frustration, to say the least. This is apparently even in their patron deity. The Maiden of the Moon's pride cannot allow her to lose again.

And so, amongst their lessons, the students of Otsuki Academy prepare for the coming Academy Tournament. Mock battles of all kinds are held in the student arena, and they hone their abilities to fight.

After all, isn't this the only reason they learn how to fight? There hasn't been a real threat to humanity in years... The Gate of Samhain is firmly shut. The One-Hundred Demon Parade has not threatened humanity for a decade.

Nothing could go wrong.

So, um, trying out something new again since it'd be nice to have something work out. ^^; This is a magitech school RP! Set around Otsuki, a Ritual Technology Academy using a shrine to Tsukuyomi. They've had bad luck failing on the Academy Tournaments, contests of battle between Ritual Technology Academies who seem to no longer have much purpose to their combat training, on the last round. Initially going so far was something to have pride in, but when it's been every year it gets kind of frustrating, especially for the Goddess.

Ritual Technology is a blanket term for all varieties of magitech, of which there are several kinds. A consistent thread of them all is that the presence of divinity strengthens it, explaining why they are built as both a school and an enormous shrine that facilitates the materialization of a deity.

Of course, things aren't just going to be so simple as winning a tournament.

The world itself is a somewhat futuristic modern era, with a proliferation of magitech in all forms. The RP itself takes place in Japan, since... with a strong anime inspiration it only seems fitting, really. ^^;

Tonally I'd like to be serious when necessary, but lighthearted when it's not. Nothing completely goofy, but comic relief and lighthearted interactions are fine. I'm also aiming for a somewhat over the top feel with action when it comes to it.

Ritual Technology:
  • Divine Gear: A Divine Gear is a piece of technology inherently powered by mana(through a device called a Light Engine), using it to produce magical effects. For example, a hammer could alter size and produce enormous impact, as well as grow in length to hit more targets. Divine Gear can also use a mythological basis to strengthen itself. A Divine Gear based on Excalibur would gain elements of the myth, such as shining with divine light, and a Divine Gear based on the Tonbogiri would gain increased cutting power. The ultimate Divine Gear are true mythological artifacts upgraded into Divine Gear, such as a Masamune katana outfitted with a Light Engine, or Joyeuse, the blade of Emperor Charlemagne. They are quite powerful(the difference between a Tonbogiri-based Divine Gear and the true weapon would be that the true Tonbogiri could cut even the fabric of reality), but exceptionally rare. Modern Divine Gear can also be incredibly powerful, but take a powerful user to wield them.
  • Ritual Device: A ritual device is a technological item containing all the elements of a traditional shrine to a god, or other place of worship. This item allows for a pact with a minor deity, gaining abilities from that deity in the process. For example, a minor god of celebration would allow a defensive field that restricts attack as long as the user is doing something that the god considers a celebration. They often provide more utility then a Divine Gear, but less potent attack.
  • Light Engine Suit: Also known as an L.E.S, the Light Engine Suit uses an enormous Light Engine to power a roughly twenty foot tall suit of advanced Ritual Technology armor. They use a variety of mana-based beams and missiles, and are a military-grade form of technology exceptionally uncommon in Ritual Technology Academies.
  • Sacrifice Cauldron: A variant of Ritual Device that utilizes a sacrifice for power as opposed to a pact with a minor god. These are more purpose-built, and require less capability to wield a weapon then a Divine Gear. Sacrifice Cauldrons demand some form of Sacrifice, typically a small item of some form. For example, a Sacrifice Cauldron could be powered using a Sacrifice of yen coins to fire a target-seeking laser. Sacrifice Cauldrons using living material are strictly prohibited.
  • Aerial Superiority Broom: An item specific to modern witches, Aerial Superiority Brooms are a broom outfitted with Ritual Technology armor and one of the above items. Sacrifice Cauldrons are a common choice.

Other Items of Note:
  • Gods: Ancient beings of divinity and objects of worship for humanity. Their very existence in the mortal plane strengthens Ritual Technology. For this reason, Ritual Technology Academies are built as enormous shrines to a god to allow for this. However, by existing on the mortal plane, they are weakened, and must be compensated for their presence by worship. After all, they are supporting the Academy with everything they have. Otsuki's deity is Tsukuyomi, the Maiden of the Moon. She dwells in the large courtyard in the center of the school.
  • The Gate of Samhain: A gate between the mortal plane and the world beyond. It is closed firmly shut. While not all things beyond the gate are malignant, many are dangerous, and some of the most powerful actively hold malice towards humankind. It was open once before, a hundred years ago, and required many using Ritual Technology to force it shut again.
  • The Hundred Demon Parade: Not necessarily an evil event, the Hundred Demon Parade is a troup of numerous supernatural beings, primarily youkai, that travel the world every few years. It mostly causes minor mischief, or even benevolent acts. However, if a malignant figure seizes control of the parade, it invites darker spirits and can cause enormous amounts of destruction and death.

Fio Mal-Rai

"Got it, Lancer!"

With that, Fio was off. The streets weren't entirely empty, given that the town was large enough to have some kind of nightlife. But it was sparse enough that battlefields would have to be chosen wisely, while at the same time being populated sufficiently that it would be hard to simply assault someone on the streets. Excellent. If this pattern continued, Fio certainly had an advantage in terms of getting the drop on people.

As she walked, however, something caught her eye, her senses as a magus immediately tuning to one point. It was hard not to notice, really... it felt like some sort of... oppressive sensation, coating her very being to the core like clinging slime. Needless to say, it was unpleasant. Tracing the feeling back to its source, Fio's eyes fell onto an empty alleyway. Frowning, she approached.

"Lancer, keep an eye out. There's something strange here," she said, glancing back over her shoulder. As she approached the source of that clinging oppression, it only grew stronger. A non-magus might even have collapsed at this point. Some weak magi may have as well. Luckily for Fio, she was made of sterner stuff then that.

And there it was.

A magic sigil, sickly green, emblazoned on the wall. Something like this, already? She'd barely had to look, this was brazen! And yet... it looked difficult to analyze. Something about it made her mind... swim trying to trace patterns. Hmph. Still, she was a Magus Hunter. Something like this shouldn't be any challenge for her!

Saber

For a few moments, Saber was silent. Yes, indeed... the secrecy of the war was absolutely necessary. But... if it could be maintained with the slaying of innocents, wasn't that something to strive for? Of course, sometimes death was necessary. But if they could avoid its necessity, then they would not have to kill innocent people who were simply caught in the middle of something they did not understand. Certainly, this seemed the best course of action to the dark-haired girl. After her contemplation, she looked back up towards her Master.

"... Very well, Einzbern-sama," she began, "I will endeavor to ensure no innocent lives must be destroyed to keep our actions a secret."

After a moment's pause, she considered the next course of action.

"... What is our next move, Einzbern-sama?"
And I'll... probably be posting in a bit again. More people really do need to though. ^^;
Tachibana Hibiki, Holding Determination in her Fist

That was true... and Hibiki realized that she kept forgetting that Miku could defend herself now, with a small pang of guilt at her absentmindedness. But there wasn't much time to contemplate this, as moments later they seemed to run right into the tail end of some kind of conflict. Hibiki moved ahead first, because, well... it was hard to let old habits die, even if Miku could defend herself now. When the two girls arrived, all she saw was a man in armor, wielding a huge sword that reminded the girl somewhat of Tsubasa. He seemed pretty intimidating, but he could talk, right? That meant that they could understand one another. When Miku pointed out that they needed to find a way out, Hibiki stepped forward.

"We don't really know how we got here," she began, "But if you knew how to get out, it'd be really helpful."

Hibiki paused for a moment. Maybe she should introduce herself, too! That could only help.

"And... my name is Tachibana Hibiki!"
Goldibanne, the Face of Innocence(?)

Oh, he was drawing weapons, too? How uncouth, even before saying a word. At least she'd introduced herself. Goldibanne let out a somewhat mock sigh as she raised on hand back... and paused.

"... Lydia?" she cocked her head to one side, and then lowered her hand, "Ahh, Goldibanne doesn't understand why you'd pull out weapons first. Isn't explaining yourself so much easier~?"

It wasn't even like he HAD explained himself. But the living doll understood what he meant to a degree, at least. After all, Lydia was the one who had called all of them here in the first place and given them their mission. It seemed unlikely that some random madman with lots of trinkets would know exactly who she was and to say her name in the face of impending destruction. Really now, what was all the posturing and stuff about if he'd shown up for the same reasons they had? It was silly.

The gold receded back into the joints in Goldianne's fingers and thumb.

"I really would have killed you if you'd just attacked, so be more careful~" she continued, brightly, before casting a glance back up at the knight perched on the gate, "Or he would have. You should have seen what he did earlier. Goldibanne never saw anyone kill that many animate dead in a single blow before~"

Saber, King Arthur Herself

Saber had no real qualms with approaching the coffee shop in order to continue planning. However, upon entry, the coffee itself was entirely disregarded. Instead, the blonde girl, still in full armor, approached the counter, her eyes travelling downwards to firmly lay upon the array of pastries stored there and on display. There was, along with the scent of coffee, the smell of these items... and they smelled quite pleasing. Indeed, there was no way she could deny her interest.

But which to choose? She could not buy all of them, the money Rin had granted her and the rest of the money given later was certainly not sufficient for such a purpose...
@Rin's been not feeling well and then busy this week, so she's been tired. If she can't post today I'll be posting for Saber, and I'll just help her out when she can post.
Fio Mal-Rai

"Got it, Lancer!" Fio said with a firm nod and a grin. So... first night. Right. It was unlikely anyone would be jumping at the chance to fight, so to speak. After all, where was the preparation time? Therefore, Fio felt comfortable with going out to show Lancer around the city. And so, she did, ensuring her protective wards were firmly in place. A bounded field, too, was in place to warn her of intrusion.

"Tell me if you sense anything unusual, Lancer," she said as she walked, "We'll be scouting out the city ourselves tonight, then my familiars will inform us what they've seen. They might detect some of the enemy Masters."

Saber

"A wise decision, Einzbern-sama," replied Saber, nodding her head. She was pleased, her Master certainly appeared to have her tactical wits about her. Not a fool who would refuse to strategize. At the same time... Strategy could be abandoned in the event that there were innocents in danger. Perhaps that was another matter to inform her Master of. Those who should not be involved in the Grail War were not to be harmed, not if she could do something about it.

"... Another matter, Einzbern-sama," Saber began, "If innocents are placed in harm's way by this war, please do not prevent me from defending them. I cannot abandon them to die, and I would hope you agree."
I'll be getting a post up tomorrow.

Speaking of which, where do people think we should be going next? I have some ideas but I want to see what my players think. ^^;
