That could work. Maybe the Imperium did it as a way to consolidate power away from some earlier Earth-based nation.
One of my ideas include the Martians messing up Mars so much it exploded. Maybe it also messed up Earth a bit and mankind chose to abandon the solar system?
Then they started over and built their galactic empire we know.
Depending on the size of the Arcturan Empire and its age I can even change the travel method of the ship from STL to slow FTL. Whichever fits.

...Than again, Flagg's not running things.

Maybe we can just say some point millennia ago there was some earth and martians that existed and no one remembers it because the houses purged all history at some point for whatever reason. Than you get your martians.
It's a safe bet actually. Given the backdrop is some ancient galactic empire.
Earth is nothing special and thanks to mankind's abuse I bet it'd be long worthless by now. Earth could be even a barren lifeless rock which nobody visits nowadays.

This would imply this universe has a Earth and I recall Flagg not wanting to have Earth.
Well, then I gotta adopt a bit.
Pity because the sodium overdose the Martians would get could be hilarious.
They try to invade Earth twice and their plans are foiled. Mars is becoming uninhabitable due to their extensive abuse of the industry. They leave on slow ships and due to a malfunction they travel for thousands of years. And when they begin to rise again they realize those primitive humans surpassed them long ago.
You can almost feel their frustration from the letters.

Willy. What is with you and these martians. Why is it always the martians.
Because I have yet to play them?
All my other ideas already on route to realization.
I have yet to post with Martians.

@ZadubadabuI will write up my app tomorrow.
EDIT: It'll be about Martians.
@FlaggI am thinking of making them the real Martians.
AKA the ones who used to attack the British in the 19th century and then were forced to escape their planet because it became uninhabitable.
Lacking FTL methods at the time they literally traveled thousands of years in stasis and perhaps they had awakened in almost the recent times.
They lied in wait and watched the humans already being a great interstellar empire with envy. They now plan to take over this dominion as it should have been.
Does this sound about right to you?
Hopefully this doesn't clash with any plots. How large was the empire to begin with?
@SigmaYou can copypaste it but I plan to make a better version of this later
Can somone paste the Treaty in here for me? I can't go on PP.
It'll be added to the OP once complete

[@Everyone] I am technically done with the Treaty's wording on piratepad.
Any input are welcome.
I made it somewhat vague so people don't get constrained with it unreasonably. You can be a nice nation or an evil mass murdering empire yet you can more or less uphold the Treaty regardless.
I mean granted you are doing it right, (via gunpowder) I just don't want another player to take this tech and screw it into some sorta intense ball of blast powder Fuck stick. I'm tired. XD let me think on it with live commentary from the other players.

Edit: this is the iron age.
I said something along these lines in the chatzy channel but I say it here.
Iron Age is vaguely defined both in regards of its start and end. In a way you can call it the equivalent of the majority of classic age.
The only semi-hard line which can be universally agreed on is the "dark ages" or early middle ages and even then only for Europe.
Anyways, I thought this is middle ages because I felt a bit of game of thrones vibe with the focus on characters and the various abilities effecting individuals and their relatives. Granted, ancient times also had great families rivalrizing with each other but without the intricacies of the feudal system it's a bit more difficult to define.

I don't want to encourage people to adopt these not-guns, either. Which is why the art of making Donnersalz is a secret they only rarely share with foreigners. It isn't like i wish to monopolize this tech either. I like the idea of somebody using whatever means to learn it, produce it in massive quantities and bring forth a change.
Though it also worths noting that aside from the wealthiest countries I don't think this mindset will work. In the ancient ages traditions bore greater weight than practicalities with the exceptions being the great empires which both had the power and realized the need to adapt.
I have a slight worry that some players may begin to play medieval nations or early modern age nations with the only difference being technology.

That being said if you don't wish to see guns I have another alternative:
Greek Dwarves
Dwarven craftsmen living in semi clan-like semi-democratic city states and actively trade with people. They are craftsmen and traders known for the quality of their goods and their mechanical knowledge.

Fire pipe... I think hannibus (fantasy weed) would be good with that.
Many of our names have ridiculously mundane origins. The creators probably just literally described what they saw.
Call them fire tubes if you want.
Anyways my other alternatives were the German equivalents of boom tubes or thundering tubes.

And the poor mans pocket rocket? Like.. Budget panzerfaust?
Which one you mean?
Well, the Rohr looks mostly like a hand cannon but with a flint to make sparks. No mechanism or trigger but the operator literally hits the stone.
Grüssrohre are wooden cannons. There are historical evidence to their use when normal artillery was either insufficient or unavailable.
Similarly finding large rocks or similar stuff to shoot is much more likely than having carts full of cannonballs "just in case". This kind of weapon is both convenient and simple enough to show the "primitive" state of my nation.

As for Donnersalz, it's a fantasy black powder. They have long traditions to their making and each tribe has their own recipes. Rohrerim rarely if ever is willing to trade Donnersalz to people outside their culture.

EDIT: After reading my profile and/or this post of mine, anyone who still have issues with my nomads' weapons please notify me. This is supposed to be a nation of sorts with an unique quirk. Nothing else. Horse archers are fun but if anyone knows me by now they also know I like to break the mold a bit.
