Given what I've read, they've yet to peer review the results, or rule out experimental errors. It might be the magnetic fields of the Earth and Sun messing with the results.

The graviton engine is like an EM drive on steroids, but relies on forces like the casimir effect. The intention is to have a vacuum based energy source, so we can justify post scarcity and starships being semi-common. To balance things, the engine is very fragile, can't go FTL, and would need regular drives as backup. EDIT: I see what you're saying about bending physics. What if graviton engines are the precursor to turning spacetime into matter/energy? It could create any force from virtual particles, and provide energy for everything. o.o
1. I'm just going on how quantum pairs react to each other. If you push a button that switches one side of the pair, then a light on the other side connected to the state of the other paired particle might come on, because it sensed the change and lit up the bulb in response. I'm simply assuming that one can control what it switches to, and that there are only two opposite states- it could be that a paired set might have thousands of different states, which would theoretically mean that if they could be controlled, you might only need two pairs of entangled particles.
I've not found an article about it- I simply found something, and made my own concept. It might very well exist as a concept by a renowned researcher, but I haven't found it if so. It's like knowing that antimatter + matter = a burst of energy and the annihilation of the two particles, and use that knowledge to make up a concept of a reactor that's essentially a containment field that collects energy, with two little peashooters on opposite sides that shoot matter and antimatter to meet in the middle, so that the energy can be harvested.
Just concepts I thought up.

I cede whatever point I had been trying to make and accept your side, because I haven't done the research to keep up or make any more legitimate arguments .___o
3. EM Drives. It could be gravity or magnetism or the sun- but what if it's not? Totally legit, that is.
4. Graviton engines might be interplanetary ships? Perhaps in this universe that we start out in, FTL is expensive, and so any FTL-capable ships are really, really big- like UNSC Infinity big- and almost as rare (obviously, people wouldn't want to be limited to one ship). Meanwhile, taking wormholes and stabilizing and utilizing them to create portals to and from different systems- such as a Infinity-sized ship carrying the opposite end of a portal made in Sol, all the way to Alpha Centuri, and using the pre-constructed portal to connect it to its counterpart in Sol to create the portal- so that ships don't have to rely on the big behemoths that can independently FTL.
Very much more powerful ships, such as the big FTL-capable ships, might use graviton engines to do the majority of the lifting, with dozens of smaller drive engines for maneuvering and such- while smaller ships use traditional or EM drive systems.
And of course, there might be active research into using space/time to generate power? Perhaps the large FTL-capable ships often end up, when at full acceleration, producing more power than they gain- another oddity that people study, but due to simply not knowing, leave it as-is?
