My therapist mentioned referring me to a psychiatrist for anxiety medication, then at the next appt. said it wasn't a good idea as it doesn't the issue. I would've loved the temporary relief though...

Started calisthenics today; not to lose weight, but to get toned and get a little stronger. It's a 5x/week type deal ChatGPT drew out for me, but my snap, crackle, pop knees sure do love to complain..

The thing is I'm not following the articles or anything like that. Does this happen to everyone?
I've tried Googling this issue myself, but I haven't found what I'm looking for so please be my savior. Anyway, is there a way to turn off those "1 new comment", "2 new comments, "5839583984 new comments" notifications on the comment section of any random article? It's seriously annoying, and distracting beyond measure.

This is what I mean.
Denise stepped out into the dead of the night, the cool breeze sending shivers down her spine. She tugged on the edges of her jacket to keep herself warm, although that wasn't doing much to help her. With her head down, she crossed the street, ignoring the catcalling of some idiots driving by in their shitty car. As if they'd ever have a chance to begin with.

Finally home, Denise went straight to her room. She'd gotten a few snacks from the convenience store right across the street; some corn nuts, an iced tea, and a Snickers bar. She was well aware of the fact that her late-night binge eating routine was nowhere near the same realm as healthy, but she'd had a rough day, apparently like most other ones. She settled in her room by taking her shoes off and plopping down in bed, grabbing the remote control before she leaned back on her pillow. About a few minutes after she started watching TV, Denise received a message.

You can't avoid me much longer. Keep running, and you'll regret it dearly.

She immediately put the phone down, knowing damn well it was Max even though the sender showed as "Unavailable". Her pulse increased, and a small lump formed in her throat. He was back, and this time he could be awfully dangerous.

"Mr. Parona—"

"Please, call me Antonio. Your dad and I were on a first name basis."

"Right. Antonio, please, come with me."

Helena closed the door behind her patient before she showed him to her office. Her work space was medium-sized, the light from the window behind her desk slowly diminishing as the early hours of evening approached. Mr. Parona was her last patient for the day, and she hoped it would be a quick session.

"So, I have here your file, the one my father kept for you. It seems that you may need to have the battery in your pacemaker replaced pretty soon. The earlier we do this, the better. I can place a call to the hospital in Anchorage and talk to the cardiologist and electrophysiologist. We'll schedule you for an appointment and they may even be able to do the procedure in that same trip. Does that sound like something you'd be okay with?"

"I suppose," Antonio shrugged, seemingly worried in reaction to the news. But Helena had gone through this more often than she could remember.

"Look, I know it sounds invasive, but I promise you this procedure is easier than the original one. You'll receive local anesthesia and you'll be out that same day."

Antonio nearly cracked a smile as his face filled with relief. "Outpatient thing, right?"

"That is correct," she replied.

"Alright, let's do it then."

Helena walked through the doors into the meeting room. She sat on the far end of the table, keeping mostly to herself as she waited for the others to arrive. The little banquet event had been a nice surprise, mostly because that meant she didn't have to cook that evening.
Genevieve Marceaux - Strip Mall

"Well, that was easy. Glad to be here!" Genevieve smiled, hoping that her decision to join Judah's team wouldn't be something she'd regret in the future. Goodness knows she's made enough mistakes in the past.

"I think this still works just fine," she continued, turning around and walking over to her bike. "I, uh...I'm not sure where you guys are going but I was on my way home. I mean, where do we take it from here?"

Genevieve reached for her helmet and waited to get a response.
"You can't be serious!" Sergei paced back and forth, his calloused hand scratching at his scalp in between strands of blond hair. The man was clearly distressed, and his Russian accent was becoming stronger by the minute. "Those girls are my family! The only family I've got!" Sergei simultaneously pounded his fist down on his superiors' desk, the contents on it shaking as the commander silently eyeballed him.

"You have no choice, Sergei," the man said, his glare an unmistakeable sign that his words were neither a joke nor to be taken lightly. But the blow that his words delivered left Sergei stunned, at that very moment questioning just about everything that his superior, Mako, had planned. "You will put them on that next vessel for Japan and say goodbye for good, no ifs buts or ands. Are we understood—"

"Daddy?"

Hana walked through the door, not fully comprehending what both men were talking about. Maybe it truly was a lack of understanding, or maybe some part of the young girl understood their discussion, yet she refrained from accepting its reality. Sergei rushed to her side, easily picking her up off of the ground as he held her in his arms.

"Everything's okay, sweetie, you have nothing to—"

A loud bang, followed by the excruciatingly long fall to the floor. Hana landed painfully on her back; her father's lifeless body nearly crushing her. She screamed so hard that her throat burned, but she grew silent the moment Mako aimed his gun at her. Hana knew better than to make another sound, but that didn't matter, not when the next shot went off.

TIME: 1020
LOCATION: IZAYOI VILLAGE

The girl woke up with a gasp, beads of sweat clinging to her bare skin as she realized it had all been a dream. A terrible, terrible dream. She looked out the window to witness a grey sky and heavy rainfall, nothing uncommon to see, but nonetheless it was rather depressing. She lay in bed quietly staring at the ceiling, the raindrops on the roof the only source of ambient noise in an otherwise quiet room. Before she did anything else, Hana looked at her watch. It was early, just 10:21 in the morning. Without hesitation, she got up to commence her work-out routine.

---

Hana attempted to do one more final pull-up. Her arms shook, and although she was slow, her chin eventually reached the bar. At that point, Hana breathed a sigh of relief and finally let go, her feet landing on the cold floor as her arms started to throb even more. She was up to three pull-ups, and she was satisfied. Her only goal was to remain toned enough to be able to do her job properly. You're bad at your job and you can easily end up dead...at least out in the battlefield.

Wearing a black sports bra and shorts, Hana made her way to the small kitchenette for a much needed refreshing glass of water. Her work-out routine was roughly 45 minutes, yet this particular morning she felt quite over-heated, probably due to the high humidity in the air. It’d been raining for some time, and it’s was predictably muggy.

After her drink of water, Hana took a bath. She took her time and relaxed, wondering what the day would bring but not dwelling too much on such thoughts. Instead, she let her mind take her to a time before she understood the harsh realities of the world, back when her family was together as a whole. It was better times, happier times, and the mental images always brought a smile to her face.

But her calm state didn't last long when there was a sudden knock on her door. She called out from her location, and the voice of a young boy delivered the news to her. Urgent Town Hall meeting.

Here we go...

Hana was quick to wrap up her bath and get ready. She did not enjoy being late in the least bit, and she'd be damned if she was the one to hold up such an important meeting.

A few moments later, Hana made her way through the main entrance, strands of her short, wet hair framing her face. She was escorted to the Elder's location, and upon her arrival she noticed that she wasn't the first, but certainly not the last.

PERSONALITY
Hana is not a girl of many words. She's usually shy at first, but opens up rather quickly once she gets to know someone. With her crew, she'd rather let her meticulous work speak for itself, and she has no problem following orders except when the command directly contradicts her morals. That's not to say she avoids conversations altogether as she enjoys reminiscing about the past quite often.

BIO
Raised in Moscow until the tender age of 9, Hana was born to a Russian father and a Japanese mother. Her diverse background gave her the chance to master three languages at a young age: Russian, Japanese, and English, which both of her parents also spoke rather fluently. When she was just 8, her father, Sergei, was killed on a mission and never returned home, leaving a young Hana and her mother to fend for themselves.

After a few months, the small family of two left Russia to go to Japan. But things were much worse in Japan, and before the girls had a chance to settle, they were taken by Yakuza members. The experience wasn't as bad for Hana as it was for her mother, who was threatened into a forced marriage with one of the leaders of the clan overseeing the town they lived in.

For Hana, being the step-daughter of a ruthless man was quite the experience. He'd sometimes attempt to be nice to the young girl, but any progress made went instantly out the window as he had a very short tempter, leaving quite the impression on the young girl as she slowly grew to become submissive the more time passed. It was during her early teenage years that things took a turn for the worse, when one of her step-father's men grabbed her late one night and drugged her. When Hana eventually woke up, she'd learned she had been raped, and immediately ran to her mother.

Hana's mother, finally deciding that their current set-up was just as bad as if they were away from the clutches of these men, urged Hana to come up with a plan, one that would help them escape their current torment. They eventually came to the conclusion that using seduction would be their best possible chance. They would lure the men away from their jobs in order to get them distracted. If they could achieve that, then more than likely they'd be able to get away with their plan.

When that fateful evening arrived, Hana and her mother had already packed their bags. Hana pretended she was going to get a drink of water while her mother pretended she was going to the restroom, then both of them got to work. While reaching one of the gates outside, Hana's mother nervously—but dutifully—motioned the guard over to talk to her. She feigned to him her husband's urgent request for him to meet in the conference room, and although suspicious at first, the guard eventually agreed. He used his radio to call in for a back-up while he was gone, and that's when Hana intercepted the guard walking to temporarily take over, calling him over to a shadowed corner behind their residence. She didn't hesitate to grab the man and push him against the wall, her heart pounding loudly in her ears as she pressed herself against his armored body to kiss him. The plan was working up until the guard pulled away from the kiss and grabbed Hana's arms. He then swiftly pushed her against the opposite wall, the fear instantly growing in Hana as the man that towered over her kept her firmly pinned to the wall. A few tense moments passed before he resumed their kiss, and although she was far from willing, she knew it was better than the alternative.

There was a quiet gasp in the air as the guard stood still for a few moments before his lifeless body collapsed. Hana and her mother looked at each other silently, then both of them ran off towards the exit, leaving the man with the knife still attached to his back. Somewhat hopeful at this point, both Hana and her mother were just reaching the gate when gunshots rang through the air. Hana looked back as she ran, only to see her mother on the ground, but the woman's only concern was to convince Hana to continue without her. There was a brief moment of uncertainty, but Hana knew what she had to do. She continued running as a couple of tears stained her face.

Despite being alone for a few weeks, Hana managed to survive. She arrived at the academy, telling them her story and everything she'd gone through in just her short 14 years of life. Once in, Hana made the most of her time there. She excelled in the role of combat medic, mastered the topic of enemy movement, and loved to shoot her fair share of guns. It was a comfortable position, one that she hoped would somewhat help her maintain her sanity despite her difficult past.
