It seems to be a long story, but for our part, they managed to somehow get here a while back. At the time it was concerning, and still is, but at least we know they're not here to fight.

What if you knocked someone out before killing them? What would happen to their soul?
Typically that'll do insignificant 'dimming,' just barely enough to be notable. But most types of souls recover from that pretty quickly, even outside of the body.
