Dareen Kahina

Dareen felt much better with her weapons. With practiced effeciency she equipped herself, slinging her bow and quiver over her shoulder and slipping her sword into her left hand into her shield in the other, the Pruulish Witch favoring her left hand. Giving a quick nod to Denvar she rolled her neck and shoulders excitedely. Nervously she glanced over her shoulder at the mostly empty room behind her. She bounced up and down and wobbled her head. Focusing up for a minute she channeled the Craft and activated the invisible shield, a thin layer of additional protection beneath her studded leather and mail.

Then, they were upon them. Mikhail's wires proved incredibly effecient as crowd control. The momentum of the attacking force was halted immediately. Dareen gritted her teeth and took the opportunity, slashing her saber out at the Purple Dusk wearing warrior. He snarled and parried her slash, the blades scittering off each other as Dareen pushed deep into his defences. Another slash and Purple Dusk warrior was almostn ot fast enough. The blade scittered off his armor and as she positioned to strike far more lethally, the Purple Dusk repositioned himself and warded off the blow. Finally he retaliated with a warding strike of his own that Dareen easily backstepped. All of this movement made Mikail's wires cut into him even deeper and his position was even more awkward.

"Are you willing to die for this?" Dareen questioned with mock incredulity, cracking her neck once again. She was safely out of reach for the Purple Dusk, but she feinted another strike, causing him to flinch and regain his footing as he tried to search for a way out and forward, but it was hard to concentrate with the looming threat of Dareen's lethal, shining sabre.

Reika Saigyo: Epilouge

Reika sits quietly at her table in the cafeteria. The gruel in front of her is hardly palatable, but she didn't really notice nor care. The woman in orange picked at the beige slop with a plastic spoon, scooped it up, and downed it. She was lost in her own head, not really thinking about much at all. Would she be put on laundry again? She was getting good at doing the laundry. She had never done any laundry herself before, but it really wasn't so bad. She probably could have done it herself. Reika was used to bossing people around, but now it was her who got bossed around.

Orange wasn't really her color, but what was there to do?

Apparently the women around her had something in mind. There was lots of shouting. Some of the women even had guns. Where did they get those? This must be that silly uprising they were all talking about. Didn't they know they were in prison? You can't just have an uprising in prison.

Reika stood slowly from her table and walked over to the place where she was supposed to put her tray when she was done with it. Suddenly, it was very hard to hear anything. Gunshots! People were shooting at each other. How...futile. Men and women in armor were busting down the doors to the cafeteria, and the rioters apparently weren't fond of that. Reika stook from her place at the cafeteria line. Another suddenly happened. Suddenly, it was very hard to stand. Her legs turned to jelly and she fell forward onto her belly, her bowl and tray clattering angrily to the floor.

What happened? Rolling onto her back, Reika sat up and looked down. Her knee got shot. That would probably hurt later. Reika lay back down and stare up at the ceiling. The shot was probably an accident. She was lucky, all things considered. Reika didn't bother looking, but she could hear the screams and moans of the dead and dying. That's what they got for breaking the rules. Eventually, they found her and picked her up in a stretcher. For some reason all of them were surprised that Reika didn't do anything wrong. Of course she didn't. Of course not. Who did they think she was?

Dareen threw her hands in the air exasperated. "Okay," she whispered harshly at the brothers. "'The fugitives are in here. Come get them.'" She kept her voice down, but waved her hands in the air like she was yelling. "Is that what you wanted? It sounds like they are coming in anyway."

She raised her eyebrows and let her mouth fall open when Mikhail spoke. "Faeril and Xandar aren't actually here? What? When did that happen?" Her bluff that Xandar and Faeril weren't here was supposed to just be a bluff. It seemed truth or bluff, the common consensus was that they were going to tell the brigands outside that there were no fugitives in the house. Denvar had ignored her plea for her weapons back, so if they didn't buy it Dareen didn't like her chances.

"Well, they're probably going to want to check the inside of this house." Dareen said, crossing her weaponless arms and shifting her weight onto one leg. Glancing concernedly over at Mikhail, Dareen said, "I don't know what kind of trap you've just set, but maybe you should disarm it? For now? Because if they come in and find they have some sort of... bamboozle, they're going to get pissed." She was clearly flustered at the whole situation. It really wasn't her place to give tactical advice, but it seemed like everyone else was just making it up as they went along.
