Unless the GM is being completely unreasonable and the majority of the group thinks he or she is being unfair or putting his or her character first ahead of the others than yes. Please yes. This is the GM'S STORY. You're a part of it but at the end of the day who is the one who made the roleplay in the first place? Who is the one who is in charge of moving the story along? Who came up with the story in the first place? A gm has the exclusive right to do as they please in THEIR roleplay. If you don't like it go somewhere else, make your own roleplay, and or deal with it. You don't go up to the club president and tell them 'No I don't like this I want to do something completely different.' without having a valid reason behind it.

As brash as your statement is, I agree. The entire point of a freeform RP is to make a story using multiple authors. If the GM refuses to allow for player autonomy, he is a bad GM. Railroading is something that should never be implemented, regardless of how much the GM likes the story he's made. If your story is derailed, tough luck. Try and salvage things, and see where the story goes. If the players' derailment has caused the RP to grind to a halt, introduce plot hooks to gently nudge the players onto a more productive route.

Don't forget that having an attitude that shuts down the ability to have sort of discourse or complaint is not only stupidly despotic for a game but is just straight up toxic for the miniature community you're trying to foster to keep the game going

Where in my comment did I ever say the GM of the roleplay should not consider the thoughts of his or her roleplayers? I didn't say that and I don't support that. I said that the gm is in control of the roleplay and what he or she says goes in that roleplay. Other people can add to it definitely or they could take it in another direction so long as the gm consents to it. I treat my own personal roleplays like I would a business. You can offer something, you can try to change something, and you can offer suggestions. But there are certain things you can and cannot do. If someone else has a different style than mine so be it that's how they do things. The biggest problem I've had in my roleplays is people who fail to post consistently and I have had only a handful of people complain to me about my style. I am fully willing to say that my roleplays have barely gotten off the ground at some points but my style isn't the only reason to that as real life is a major factor in all things regarded to roleplaying and some of my better compatriots have had their posting records completely derailed by it but there's nothing you can do about it.

Likewise I am fully admitting to simply not having the skill to pulling off some of my roleplays. My sekirei roleplays, my rosario x vampire roleplays, and I am fully aware my naruto roleplays are certainly not as good as they can be due to my own limitations as a story writer. However I will stand by the way I do things as I see them as a good way to get things done. As it stands I have completed two free level roleplays before guild fall, one I had to take over as co-gm half way through due to my character taking the spotlight as head of his group, and the other one, while very much rushed, was still officially completed as both the other roleplays in the roleplay wanted to finish it but real life was going to take them away so I had to make the ending happen much quicker.

Also please remember rule one: Be cool like the Fonz I don't appreciate being called 'full of shit' and toxin to the community. I am merely stating my opinion and I have no interest in getting into starting a flaming argument.

Players obsessed with one-handed typing. I'm getting real tired of that shit. I'm talking about role-play across the spectrum, mind. Be it in a MMORPG, on the forums, or a tabletop game, there's always that one jackass whom has a character that is 'deeply disturbed,' etc, etc. Yet the player always has them flirting and having a good time. What does this tend to lead to? A lecherous character who's controlled by a player who really has a thing for sex over the internet. I tend to play as characters who don't really have high sex drives, and thus, I can escape the brunt of ERP. Yet what happens? Some player takes your character as a challenge and repeatedly and annoyingly tries to get into your character's pants. The quality of RP tends to drop, and the main storyline goes off track because of one asshole who had a woody they couldn't rub out themselves.

This has happened so many times to me before. Not on RPG, but in other places. My characters can end up being treated as if they're little more than sex objects in a RP that doesn't revolve around it at all! I myself am not interested in ERP dammit! Accept the answer. There. I think I'm done b*tching for now.

True that, and then those creeps start to complain that your character is "unrealistic" for not being romantic as far as the story is concerned.

Do they honestly think they're that charming, or do they just think everyone else is as pervy as them?

I've always just chalked it up to someone not knowing how to deal with their hormones or not caring to. Sometimes they are just pervs though.

Let's break the trend of annoying people joining games, and talk about joining games with annoying GMs.

A while back (under a different name, of course, this account is young), I wrote a character for this one roleplay. Except that the GM didn't like him. It wasn't that he was an unrealistic character or anything. He had depth, I wrote it to be complex, and he wasn't perfect. He was initially accepted, good start, and I made my first post.

He wasn't a sociopath or anything, he was just kind of a dick. He even had his reasons. His name is Abraham, for easier reference.

But the GM didn't like Abe - as an actual person, mind you. He said if he actually met Abe in real life, he'd try to kill him. I'm just thinking, "Okay, you know what, that seems a little far, but I understand. My character isn't necessarily charming." But the GM used his dislike of Abe as a person that it influenced his decision making and how he interacted with him and how he controlled the plot. After my first post, I was immediately shut-down, my character was controlled and not given a chance to avoid, and was knocked out in one punch by a lightweight woman. Abraham, on the other hand, stood at 6'1" and 180 lbs. or so, and was a boxer. My weight might be off, but you know. Actual fighting experience, heavy-weight, and was auto-hit without a chance to dodge and made so that he was knocked out with a single punch by someone half his size.

The justification was that the GM didn't like him as a person and didn't like the premise of anti-heroes. So fervent about it that he argued with two or three people about it for a couple pages before we gave up and left. Somewhere along the line, the argument was over more about his behavior as a GM than what had actually occurred within the roleplay.

Beautiful times.

I hate how small the population of good fantasy roleplays in the Casual section

No, I don't want to do SAO roleplays

or Anime roleplays

OR Warhammer roleplays(Unless, by a stroke of luck, there's a Tau one)

Or even video game roleplays

seriously

Hmph.

And when they are available, all the wizards are already taken! Any fantasy rp with a wizard limit is no rp I want to participate in.

Tell me about it *Puts down tankard of beer*

Was in a good RP.

Someone started flinging insults at my character, called her a Mary Sue, even though she was accepted heartily by the GM.

I defended myself rationally, calmly, citing the definitions of Mary Sue and everything.

The person who insulted me eventually said that she's bored and didn't want to talk about what she started. But she maintained her stance that I'm using a god damn Mary Sue.

I defended myself some more the same way. I bring up all the points of the Mary Sue and discounted each of them in my character's context.

The GM and a third of the community said that I was being aggressive and negative. The rest are either too afraid of being persecuted or are not present.

The GM decides that I should leave. Citing that third of the community, that I'm being aggressive and negative, and something that happened 2 years ago.

*Drinks heavily from tankard of beer*

[Link removed. I still feel wrong to repay punches with punches]

EDIT: Oh God, the more I looked at it, the more upset I've become. I'm very grounded in real life, and yet I can't help but to really feel it. At least with real life, I have been able to settle alot of conflicts that matters more easily enough. But somehow it can't be done in an RP, and I was giving it far more effort than I would need to in those real life conflicts.

*Drinks even more*

It's best to let things like that drop, it looks to me like you took that argument way to far in the thread when it should have been handled in PMs.

At the end of the day there are some groups that you'll really hit it off with, and some that will never quite click.

As I've said, it wasn't an argument. Arguments are loud and brutal and barbaric.I was discussing things.

This is an argument:

Person 1: You suck

Person 2: Yeah? No, you suck!

Person 1: No.

Person 2: Fuck you!

I was doing this:

Accuser: You suck

Me: Fine, point out why I suck

Accuser: Because of A, B and C

Me: Okay, I don't think I suck but your suggestions will still improve my CS

Accuser: You still suck. Hard.

Me: Okay, I don't see how I'm sucking. I'd like to point out D, E, F, G, H, I.

Accuser: Nyeh, nyeh, nyeh. I don't wanna talk about it. You can't change my opinion. You suck.

Me: But then D, E, F, G, H, I is stated in www.answer.com to be indications that I don't suck.

Judge and Jury: I sentence thee to banishment for being aggressive, negative and destroying the RP!

You see what I mean?

But anyway, some of the people involved in that RP are giving me a break and I'm renewing my appeal. So there's that.

An argument is classified as an exchange of diverging views, no matter how civilized.

Regardless, the whole thing was something that could easily have been ignored.

Trust me, I'm not passing judgement, it's just that as an outside viewer it was clear that no one thought it was that big a deal besides you.

I hope everything works out between you and them, good luck!

So posts are made to be ignored, and exchange of views are forbidden? Holy moley, now I've seen everything. What's worse is that this policy appears to work on a larger scale rather than being an isolated incident. This was never a problem before the site crashed, before that RP really, what's happened? When was this policy implemented in roleplayerguild?

Thing is, argument in general use means violent exchange of views. There are other words used more frequently for the kind of discussion I was going for, like discussion.

Plus, it's not bothering everyone else because I'm the one taking it. I worked on the CS, I need the CS for roleplaying. It's an advanced RP, and it took hours for the CS and my initial post.

Okay -- this. This is what I'm talking about.

You both exchanged your views, and no one was budging. Once the other person has stopped responding, but you still are despite making everyone uncomfortable, that's when things need to end.

And for the love of god please don't read non-existent subtext like there's some kind of conspiracy to make you look bad, you sabotage yourself with things like that.

The best way I can phrase this is this then. Seems that roleplayerguild or at least a chunk of it has developed a form of etiquette after the crash that I'm not aware of. I don't recall this to be a problem before, and I'd been on for a few years on and off.

Man, I need another tankard of beer. I'll... just go back to my writing and wait for the GM to reply, hope that it'd end like a nightmare.

EDIT: But thanks for the talk anyway. I really needed it.

Believe me, I understand what you're saying, I just don't think it applies in this situation.

Anyway I'm sorry if I frustrated you; sometimes I don't sound as friendly as I mean to be.

Good luck with your appeal, hopefully next time we talk it'll be about good news.
