The Power of Attorney is so that we can ask him the questions of what decisions he wants to make without him getting confused, and then we tell the people who need those decisions those decisions. That's how I understand it.

You know what this is just going to lead in to me making a huge plot all of a sudden. But since it's the Scale, I'll let you come up with something based on it: After exploring the Sand Village/Temple, they found a hidden artefact which was recognised by David or some other person as something important, and so that's why they worked on leaving more fervently. I haven't the time to come up with what that artefact is or what it means. Or maybe I can come up with it overnight and it can be like a plot that's handled by the both of us or whatever.
