Trust me, there's better anime out there. It's okay for starters and I hope you really enjoy it and come away with good memories of it! If you like more shounen-oriented anime I suggest watching/reading Berserk (lots of NSFW stuff and heavy violence though, warning you now), Evangelion, or One Piece if you want some more stuff for when you're all caught up on SNK.

As far as shoujo with a little action I'll always fondly remember Revolutionary Girl Utena, Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Card Captor Sakura. (All magical girl anime but I LOVE magical girl anime :p)

Sorry if you don't want anyone's input! Just figured it'd be nice to get a couple ideas of where you might want to check out next. We can always just chat it up a little instead.

The anime leaves off at the shittiest possible point of the manga, though. >:\ I've yet to see the movies but they look totally kickass. Do you read the manga at all?

Trust me, read it before you watch the anime. The anime only covers a tiny sliver of the manga and leaves off so much that you'll only feel lost when you finish it. The movies are good, but again they're fairly recent and do not cover the full story, only the background of the main characters. Again, I've got to warn you, it can get into some really nasty stuff. If you think Attack on Titan is bad as far as ultraviolence, well...

There are anime movies (called OST or some shit) that you should just get yourself into. It's a much lower investment, and it brings you up to speed within the genre so you can watch shows and understand, like, what the tear drop over the face means, or the funky >V< thingies, or whatever. Watch those, instead of trying to jump right into some 300000-episode powerepic. I mean I'm pretty into anime, and shit like Bleach or One Piece just makes me lose my mind. Find something with a single, complete storyline (max 24 episodes) and don't get into anything beyond that for starters.

OST universally stands for Original Soundtrack, you're thinking of OVA, and you're super right about OVAs being a good place to start.
