I was just wondering to myself, at what point does a person stop being "new" to something? Like, I'm a pretty new RP-er and only a few days old on this site, but I feel like I've already been a little bit saturated with the culture (ok, not really, but I'll get there) and it feels like I've been here for a long time! What do you all think? When does someone cross from "new" to... _{I don't know} not "new"?

When they are able to recognize certain tropes, and get to have a reputation among a certain group of people. Most people I roleplay with for example know me as that hardass gundam guy.

Except that has nothing to do with RPG's culture. This used to be a hotly debated topic, especially in Spam. There were a lot of members that had been around since 2008/2009 and as such had a tendency to think of anyone that joined after 2010 as new. Most of them have left, however, and RPG currently thrives on much newer blood (with a few exceptions such as myself). At this point, it doesn't really matter. The Guild itself is practically new so why worry about its users?

That's a good point about the forum practically being brand new now. I feel like the prejudice of new vs. old members is kind of silly. Everyone was new once. As long as the new members try and just do as well as they can, they shouldn't be looked down upon. I feel like that goes for any setting... Anyway, yeah, I guess there's not really a particular cutoff point. It just depends on what everyone perceives and feels. Interesting...

Yeah, there's no cutoff point centered around time or post number, its all in how people see you. If the majority thinks of you as new, then you're new.

New is a subjective term, meaning it's up to individual impersonation and there's no hard definition. But like Hank and others said, the New VS Old mentality is stupid anyways. Just treat members as members and you'll be fine.

I don't understand the "new" drama either. I personally love to RP with newbies at the Guild because you never know what to expect from them. Everyone has a different style, anyway. From my 6 years of experience, being new has hardly anything (if anything at all) to do with RP quality. Sometimes new players do even better than the so-called veterans! I think we should all just get along as fellow writer-enthusiasts and not worry about other people's experience.

I joined the old forum back in 2011 (RP'd on random forums since 2007) and made a pretty core group of friends here that I RP'd with a lot. However, ever since "guildfall", I haven't seen any of them back on here. I pop on here every now and then, usually when I get the urge to RP again, but then I seem to drift off for a while as I don't have the same connections as I did before. Anyways, that's a lot of fluff for me to say I personally don't feel new, but I'm sure there's plenty of old members on here who have no idea who I am. Also, like others have said, it doesn't matter. There's no negative thing in being new, as it is the constant stream of fresh users that keep RP sites alive.

On whatever year it was, Google Ads became self aware. They nuked all funding and took over the guild... With the help of a terminato-Ahem...Googlenator that looks suspiciously like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mahz and the rebellion secured the site once more, and newguild was made... But no, it isn't post apocalyptic, it's more like post-post apocalyptic. The post-apocalypse happened and theres been updates and now everythings pretty again. TL;DR Guildfall happened, we got the site back, then it got updated to this. Post apocalypse was like, a year ago, man. Back to the topic... Old VS New mentality is dumb and you shouldn't really care about it. Moving on...

Look, don't worry about impressing people in the off topic sections; bring your best to the RP sections. That's what really counts.
