They absorbed the leftover energy in the air from everyone who cast as spell/energy attacked. Then, they get right at the center of of the absorbed energy which is the casters own magical signature, which they'll use to disguise themselves as a part of any spell the caster may use in the future, which leads to the breaking down part.

@BranchOfSin Illusions that can cast spells. As long as their body isn't dispersed, they'll keep casting - it doesn't take much to disperse them though, which is why they have barriers.
