Other than extending the bio to include some of her experiences from childhood to the age of 21, it seems fine to me. Some things you might want to look at again, however, are changing 'close in counter' to 'close encounter', and correcting the part where her fighting ability is described as from her heritage. She is, after all, human, so it might be more appropriate to say 'her influence' or something like that. Also, mentioning the Sacert, and how she tamed it.

So, that's four people with characters so far. I'm very pleased! If @Oswald the Penguin, @Scarifar, @Mortalbean, @Dead Cruiser, @GodOfChaos, @tatszico, @Prince Of Seraphs, and @Bethfuu get in on this as well, either by making characters or helping contribute to the lore/content of the world, we might be in a good shape to get this ball really rolling!

Yeah, the mixed up words is a lovely gift from writing on my iPad, and not proof reading.

What is the highest technology level you're willing to allow? My basic idea is a genius mage and artificer that creates mechanisms from systems of different conduits to create highly advanced magitech.

1920s-era technology includes the first cars, radios, and silent movies both with and without color, but because magic I'm willing to let it go a little above. What sort of magical technology would you have in mind? It would be easier for me to confirm or deny what you want rather than listing a definite limit.

I was originally shooting for an Iron Man-esque power suit, but if this is the level we're working with, I'll go for more of a raygun-gothic gadgeteer theme. Laser-guns, jet packs, tesla coils and such. Think Fallout-esque technology.

That second option suits me well!

All of the stuff I've written, Scarifar, plus whatever else people might come up with, and you have nothing? Well, alright. Shall I look forward to your renewed interest in a few days, as with HOB?

Sorry for running super late. I haven't been able to keep up with the forum for completely. It has just been an awfully busy week. Is it possible someone can make a small summary for me? I can find the character sheets and read them so you can leave them out.

No problem! The only developments aside from characters we've made is a new race called the germina and a plot we can do if this whole thing comes to fruition. Here's everything that's been said about it:

Are there any magics that the current Affinities don't represent, which any of you might like to use?

Edit: this is all

The Thinker: A traveler golem who has locked himself away somewhere under Chrysocolla. It is one of the oldest golems, some even claim he is the very first to ever become a traveler. The Thinker is something of a difficult to find but extremely wise sage. The tectonic activity near Chrysocolla means his exact position has shifted over the ages, and perhaps he will one day find himself consumed by the volcanoes he shares his underground home with. His exact nature is difficult if not impossible to know as he is referenced in many legends, often with contradicting accounts of his true nature.

Here's the second. Lots of sources of inspiration on this one. Statues, dress guides, wikipedia... But I think I have something workable and might edit some stuff later once I get a chance to take another look.

Name: Eresa Aedon
Sex: Female
Age: 246
Race: Golem
Affinity: Metallum, specifically bronze.

Personality: Eresa fosters the appearance of a bored dilettante. She collects as much art, clothing, and people as her savings can afford, but holding very little affection for any of it beyond its price for resale. No, what truly captures her heart and soul is power. She had all the power she could want, once. If she could have it again, and hold on to it better this time, then perhaps she could fill the void in her purposeless life.

Fighting Style: As a being made of bronze and a Spirit of the same, Eresa has unparalleled control over her body's structure and the metals which comprise the alloy (copper, tin, etc.). She can form her hands into blades or other tools, increase her size, or even mend damage. For these benefits, there are also some serious deficits. Bronze is a soft alloy, bending and shearing far easier than steel, and the mending process takes quite a lot if time as Eresa has to concentrate to remake her fine components.

To be honest, if Eresa found herself in combat she'd most likely be chiding herself for being stupid. She would much rather hire some thugs, poison, or throw money at a problem until it goes away. Despite her prowess if it came to combat, Eresa is not a combatant.

Bio: 246 years ago Mother Eresa Aedon, Lux Matron of the Coven and holder of the 5th Mystery, died on a pyre. For 43 years previous she had clawed her way up the ranks of her order and tore down her rivals. The title of Arch-matron was within her grasp. But she'd grown complacent. Betrayed by a rival, she was one of the first flames that would set the whole of the Old Coven alight. But the fire didn't truly end her. She was saved.

Salvation pushed her soul into a worker of Monolith. There she toiled, bitter for it, but without the knowledge of why. In time she managed to find others like her, dissatisfied with their lot in life with the vague feeling that something had been wrongfully stolen. These disparate workers formed the Autonomous League, pooling their skills to find a way to slip the shackles of Providence's Blessings. From their labor the Converter was born.

Able to siphon Blessings away from their intended recipients, the converter stored the mystical energy for later use, to be shared by the League. The next, logical step was to see if they could concentrate the power of the Blessings enough to create a Traveler. Eresa was their first volunteer. The refinement and gathering processes were painstaking, but finally they were certain they could mimic the intensity of Providence for just a few seconds. They theorized that exposure to that much untamed energy would be enough to jump-start the Traveler metamorphosis. They were right, to a point.

When it was over Eresa felt like herself again. Her affinity for Lux had been wiped out by the transformation, but the loss paled before the return of her memories and the sense of being complete. After regaining her senses, she informed her fellows that they had succeeded. She then proceeded to kill them all using the Converter, destroyed it, and stole its design notes. She knew that somehow Monolith's god had sensed her apotheosis. The Spinnermen, workers who had given their minds and bodies to Providence to become temple guardians, were on their way. She made a harrowing escape from the city, Spinnermen tracking her the whole way until their Blessings failed them.

With her freedom assured, so long as he never returned, Eresa began to explore her new world. She raided her old boltholes for funds and sold the stockpiled charms and scrolls that she could no longer use. With the bureaucracy of the New Coven earning her bitter disdain, Eresa decided to enjoy her new lease on life. She earned it.

Appearance:

Eresa's "skin" is a dull bronze that, if looked at from afar, would almost pass for human. The mistake ends there as one would notice her eyes were the same color as the skin, almost like they and the rest of her face were sculpted as a formality from one piece of bronze. Her hair is much the same as its polished form doesn't actually hang free, but is another molded part of her head.

Eresa's taste for the finer things extends to her wardrobe. The latest fashions from across Protea usually find their way onto her 7' frame. By far her favorite is a glossy black gown that hugs her form without being inappropriately snug. A long drape off her right shoulder and a bronze sash around her hips completes the look.

Alright, I'm pretty interested in where this is going, but there's a whooooole lot of stuff. Tbh, I'm more than a little lost, but I kind of get the gist of it. I might make a character or 2, I might contribute to world building, who knows. Got some questions, though.

So, first up, just how much can magic splash?
This is cause I got a sweet idea for an assassin, but they need to splash Ignis, Motus and possibly permutatio (maybe Tenebris). I'll pm you the details if you want to know what I have in mind.

Secondly, how... liberal can the magic be?
Alright, this one needs slightly more detail. My other character idea is a pirate who has magic which gains more power the more money he has.

And thirdly, what's the overarching plot going to be?
The world's really big already so I have no idea where to start, or where it's going to start, or what's going to go down potentially.

The Thinker would be suitable NPC, though I don't imagine he would get much attention based on his location. Unless you have special plans for him, I wouldn't go to the trouble of making a sheet, maybe just mentioning him in another character's backstory. As for your other question, a worker's bodily material remains the same when it becomes a Traveler, but a Traveler may also manifest armor that can be of different material. Depending on the style of armor, it can appear that a Traveler is made of it, rather than their original material. For instance, two of the Journeymen who currently rule Monolith are Elvilika and Udo Koro Kai. The former has dark granite body and light, off-white archer's armor, while her companion Kai has a beige body of clay armored in white brigandine armor.

You may notice at this point that my primary inspiration for Monolith and the golems is Bionicle.

@reddy
A very nice character! Would you make her your primary PC, or someone we encounter (perhaps as a source of information or influence) in Ebb? Also, for posterity's sake, you might want to look over the bio for typos.

@Lord Santa

So pleased to have you with us! Here are the answers you seek: a magician can theoretically use infinite types of magic, but having multiple makes them all weaker. Similarly, a college student can dual-major in engineering and art, but probably won't be as good at art as would someone who focused solely on art. Spells themselves can combine two affinities, but in doing so they meld. For instance, a single spell can't use rock and fire; it will use lava.

Magic can be pretty flexible. If I were you, there could be two solutions for your gun that gets stronger when its owner is richer: one, have it be a Charm, a magical artifact that is closer to primal magic and is more versatile. You've have to include in your backstory how he got it, since Charms aren't easy to come by. Perhaps a certain Traveler, a Spirit of Mechanica, created it several hundred years ago in cooperation with a sorcerer from the Old Coven. Alternatively, you could explore special Affinity combinations. Just like Praecantio plus Lux equals Astra (celestial magic), which is not a true Affinity but an amalgamation of two of them, you might put Metallum and Mentus together to get Lucrum—greed. It is well within the bounds of Greed magic to make something stronger if there's money involved.

As for overarching plot, look hither

Keep the good stuff coming, people!

I have what may be an important question. Is it absolutely necessary to craft and prepare a spell before it can be cast? Would it be at all possible for somebody to cast a sort of impromptu spell?

Hm. Magic is defined by its Forms and its Affinities prescribed during spell preparation. Also during the preparation, it is given a name/incantation which is used to cast it. If a person lashes out with magical energy, with no definition and an incantation made up on the spot, I suppose a primitive spell could be used. It would be a lot like raw magic, very dangerous and uncontrollable, most of all to the user. I've been thinking of making a little tab for certain supernatural diseases/afflictions present in Protea, and this would help thicken that list. I shall call it Burnout - decreased ability to regain mana and use magic after using a spell that hasn't been prepared.

Yeah, I didn't think of them as a very relevant NPC just the first thing that came to mind. TBH I was thinking of Keetongu from Bionicle.

I'm currently working on the concept for two different characters. A traveling Elven entertainer and a more graceful giant type of golem. Will probably post them later tonight.
