Still too large on android as well. Could it possibly be related to the rendering issue Mahz cited as the source of the inconsistent font sizes as well?

To make the issues interesting... Neither of our home computers displays your thingamajig incorrectly, @TheMaster99.

One is a Win7 Firefox (1920:1080 monitor)
the other is an Ubuntu Firefox (1280:800 monitor)

So either Mahz fixed it, or something in the code is being real funny.

I had an idea that would (most likely) have to be placed on the "Distant-Future" section of the roadmap, if implemented. We could allow roleplays to create their own skin for the thread, that would display for all users that opt-in, and allow a tick mark in the settings for those who prefer the plain gray art style. That allows for another level of customization within roleplays, and another individualizing factor that allows the players to make it their own.

How much of the forum page would be suitable for the cuatomisation? An idea I'm thinking that would look nice is like a watermark design from the top of the post that would possibly fade out after 600px or something, or some individual colours adjustments. As long as there's no ultra neon or clash of colours that looks like unicorn vomit. :P

I was considering the top and the sides (perhaps the bottom), and if someone doesn't want to see them, they can disable it.

When I get home I may play around with Photoshop and see what the results look like

That'd be very helpful (as long as you don't choose one that looks, in your own words, like "unicorn vomit"); thank you.

@LegendBegins
Just a quick play around to see how a few things worked out. My suggestion for placing an image within the text box area just looked bad. Some other designs may work if it was a bit more specific with borders and possible text formatting (ie: Fantasy RPs could have their usernames in a stylish font, eg: [Link], however getting that to work on computers without font files may be an issue)

As a quick throw together, These don't look too bad. A concern we would have to address would be the text that happens to be light and where it would be positioned above certain images. With some images possibly containing varying colours and the requirement for a few different designs to suit the GM's vision, I'm guessing readability of would be high on the list. It's mostly with the lighter shades, but it will depend on the image.

Background images that don't match the rest of the styling always make me want to barf.

Lol. I know. How else would you suggest some sort of theme working.

Personally, I think the skins look great; good job putting those together. And the fact that it takes up so little space makes it hard to entirely screw up, but even if someone doesn't like them, they have the option to turn them off.

I'll be keeping it on if implemented. It feels nice and individualized.

Comes down to individual taste. Some people may like a bit of creative design in the background, while other prefer the clean look. As long as it can be turned on and off, there's no major issue.

With the images however and something to note is that there would have to be work done in order to obtain copyright licencing, or permission to use.

It'd be much easier to make it clear that the GM chooses the images, not anyone involved with the site, and remove anything that someone comes to Mahz about. There isn't really any need to make sure everyone has permission to use what they do, only to make sure that the problem is eliminated as soon as it is brought up. Perhaps punish anyone who causes problems with this, as a way to encourage users to figure out if they are allowed to use something beforehand?

And I would probably leave them on personally, although the option to disable them on a case-by-case basis would be nice. I.e. one RP has a really great background that I want to see, but another one is just "unicorn vomit" which I don't want to see)

I think it looks cool. The guild's styling would need some tweaks of course like translucency/transparency on backgrounds and strokes on text.

It's not a feature I'm against implementing, I'd just let people opt-out.

Though I'm afraid your taste in good-looking, high-resolution backgrounds makes the idea possibly more palatable than it might be in reality.

For a taste, can you create a mockup that stretches this small shitty image?

@TheMaster99 True. I wasn't thinking in the perspective of a user uploading an image as I was thinking of a set number of presets, for let's say each tag.

I'm fairly sure nothing stupid will be uploaded as the threat of having your RP taken away and banned is enough to keep the riff Raff away. There will still be the occasional issue, but from what I've experienced on here it's pretty minimal.

I'd go ahead and do that, but he already has a template; regardless, you'd end up with a lot of white on top with a stretched anime chick. It wouldn't look like death, but it wouldn't look good at all, either; when that situation arises, it's important for GMs to have enough artistic taste to say "Wow, this looks horrible" and then find another one or turn it off, instead of subjecting themselves and the other RPers to it.

You wouldn't run into copyright issues, just as you don't with profile pictures. It's considered "fair use."

Don't actually mock that up.

If I implemented this, I'd just enforce minimum image resolution and aspect-ratio restrictions.
