I just realized I didn't answer your question.
As far as I remember, summons were never mentioned before, but I would guess that since more powerful magic isn't accessible, summons wouldn't be either.

@ShurikaiI dunno, some of the games let you use lower level summons like Chocobos and fairies and stuff rather than immediately starting off with minor gods. XD Going to admit I'm pretty confused by the whole "no healing spells" thing though.

@Rin No, healing spells are allowed. There's no magic like Death, Doom, or revival magic. Ultima, Holy and Meteor are all off limits for plot reasons, and summoners don't exist. As for summons, they are a plot thing as well, but they get introduced almost immediately out the gate. However, there's a requirement that needs to be met to unlock them. After all, they are sentient, though exist in a plane where mortals cannot see them.

So basically, we get access to Curaga, but not Life? Not immediately for the former, obviously.

Do we have job classes, or are things more... freeform, I guess is the word?

@RolePlayerRoxas You'll have access to the basic classes, but as we progress through the story, you'll be able to advance your class in the direction you wish.

Right-oh, that's basically what I expected. Just wanted to make sure. XD So I guess all I really need to do now is figure out which class to go for... Hmmm.

Which pool of classes are we allowed to pull from? Which is a really roundabout way of asking if someone could be a dancer or a culinarian or, failing that, a bard even.

Potential interest here too! Most of my Final Fantasy experience comes from a little bit of 13 and a lot of 14, so I like the idea that this will be closer to the later games in setting.

(I also kinda love the fact that we can have a dozen fans of the same series in one thread and still have such a broad range of experiences)

@Fabricant451 Well, class-wise, there are only a small handful available for base classes. Warriors and mages are pretty much the main classes of the world, with lancers and archers following behind, though they're not as popular...yet. Mages only have two types right now, white and black, and they both sit at the very far ends of their respective Aspects. Black mages belong to the Destruction Aspect, while white mages belong to the Creation Aspect. Warriors come in three types, one handed (shield is optional), dual wielders, and two handed. Lancers simply have one type, though depending upon the path they decide to follow, they can become a heavy lancer or something...else. I won't reveal that class yet. Archers can come in two types, bow or crossbow. Each archer type has a different path which will never mingle with the other, unlike the other three classes.

Would a Blue Mage be considered a basic/usable class? If I remember right, games that have them make them available very quickly, given how long it takes them to be viable, or are we just sticking with white and black for this?

@RolePlayerRoxas For base classes, just white and black, as there is currently research going on into trying to access more deeper secrets of both Aspects. Blue will be the first available once a breakthrough is made.
