I'd assume such a mage would not be very socially adept. That's what I got from the Telvanni mages in Morrowind, anyway. An akward greeting has the potential to be funny.

tbh Martin was kinda shit

Emperor for all of two seconds before stealing the spotlight by turning into a fucking dragon.

I guess singlehandedly liberating Kvatch and destroying all know Oblivion Gates didn't matter any more at that point.
