Brief Explanation: When my sister and I were edgy preteens we would collect lyrics from songs that we liked. My sister especially enjoyed this and would write them down on sheets of paper and then hang them up somewhere in her room. Seeing as we're both older now and no longer live together, we no longer do this. However, it hasn't stopped me from doing it on my own. I can never be found without my iPod (mostly because I write to music) and sometimes I find that I have large chunks of free time with virtually no way to spend it. So I solved it by creating a game: a lyric hunt!

The rules of this game are simple and can be found below. After you've played the game and collected your lyrics then all you have to do is "drop" your lyric(s), the song title(s) and artist(s) into the thread. That's all! Easy enough, right?

That's it. Happy hunting and I hope you enjoy this little game I created and a chance to share music with others!

How to Play:

  • Begin by shuffling your Spotify, iTunes, downloaded music or anything else. It is recommended to be doing this during a free time.
  • As you work your way through the music, listen carefully to some of the lyrics and write down one you like.
  • Finally, post your lyric(s), song title(s) and artist(s) here so they can be added to this ever-growing thread.
  • That's it! Have fun!

Now you've got soup in the laundry bag
Now you've got strings, you're gonna lose your rag

Headlong - Queen

To this day, I have no idea what Mercury meant by that. :/

Beats me. I'll add it under Miscellaneous because there's no way to define the un-defineable!

Sure sounds fun. Sounds similar to what I've done in past myself. :3 (and I just happened to get a song with many lines I like but here's one.)

I was once the wine and you were the wineglass,
I was once alive when you held me,

Here's another from a favorite group of mine:

And I don't know much, but I do know this
With a golden heart, comes a rebel fist
But I can't help agreeing with those that would not quit.

Here's To Life - Streetlight Manifesto

I love these guys. I could probably fill pages with great lyrics of theirs.

Eh, why not?

So, let me just say that pretty much the entirety of Blue Stahli's "Anti You" is both seriously edgy and seriously cutting and critical of society as Hell. Forgive me French. It's incredibly edgy, but I find I still love the song today because of precisely what it's criticizing and the language the guy uses.

I'll just quote a couple of the most powerful/angry parts of the song. (It ends up being half the song's lyrics, but still.)

Also, I've always thought "sucking you off" was "succor you off," but maybe I'm wrong.

Another command to succumb
To sucking you off with a smile
A vanity culture like a congregation
Identity dogmatism
The image is always in style
Stroking the ego with media masturbation
Conditioning to canonize
Gospel of this vox populi

...

A singular definition
Of what it's supposed to be like
An arrogant principle of validation
You're pushing the masochism
We're never to question the hive
I'll be the nemesis of expectation

Refusing to regurgitate
Accuse and excommunicate

And the chorus itself is one of my favorites, but the lyrics don't have nearly the same impact on paper.

Updated the list! I've actually listened to all songs listed so far. I have to say, I'm really like "Anti-You". Also, added a few quotes of my own.

I used to be pretty edgy myself. This is one of my old favorites.

If you believe in magic, don't bother to choose
If it's jug band music or rhythm and blues
Just go and listen, it'll start with a smile
It won't wipe off your face, no matter how hard you try

Here's a few you probably never heard before:

"We're real till the red light is off, then we go, take our faces off
Like two clowns in a side show" Nightmoves - Kurt Elling

"The time is upon us to lose our indifference.
For Time isn't holding us anywhere. I declare:
Life gives savoir faire." The Beauty of All Things - Kurt Elling

"And even if the whole world's harp should burn up
There would still be hidden there, the spirit of song there to linger on" I Like the Sunrise - Kurt Elling

Here's a few more ones I like. After doing it again. :3

"And to the girls, You're worth more than the cheap words.
You see your body as beauty, but your pulse is worth more." Vices Like Vipers - Oh, Sleeper

"Acquired conscious competence of all of my accomplishments
And conquered constant comments that contradicted my confidence
Common compliments were called upon to con me in
Accosted consonant comments that condescended all my common sense." Absolution - Sadistik

Hey misses hopeless, the world will catch up
With your intrepidness, I hope you know this
There’s no one like you, it’s so oppressive
You can even spell your own name, how impressive. Pachyephalosaurus - Showbread

"Beware, beware, be skeptical, of their smiles, their smiles of plated gold. Deceit, so natural, but a wolf in sheep's clothing is more than a warning!" - Wolf in Sheep's Clothing, Set It Off

"Drop the ball, watch it fall, far below. Suck you in, hold your breath, the undertow creeps in slow. Everyone holds a gun, deep inside. It's just a matter of how much you let it slide..." - Hurt, Thousand Foot Krutch

You'd think that I'd learn the cost of love
Paid that price long enough
But still I drive myself right through the pain
Yeah, well it turns out, I haven't learned a thing

In your deepest pain
In your weakest hour
In your darkest night
You are lovely

I have this compulsion to try and learn every song by heart that i start liking, so here is one of my favorite lines:

I tried to be perfect
But nothing was worth it
I don’t believe it makes me real

Sum 41 - Pieces

It's nothing super deep or hard to interpret, just a piece of music that has made me think a lot about how i am around people.
