UNIVERSAL was meant to take it's inspiration from larger blockbuster superhero movies and storylines such as Injustice, Civil War, and Batman V Superman. With the recent roster shake-ups I'm currently developing STRIKE [our version of SHIELD] and introducing a character who will basically be our universe's Injustice Superman: Liberty Son aka Darkstar as a big bad. What we could use right now are some more superheroes AND villains. STRIKE is also currently in the process of putting a team together to take down the fallen hero.

A lot of our characters for the game early on were street level types. Now we're down to a group of about 6 or 7 still pushing forward. Specific archetypes are listed for the types of characters we're looking for, with the current cast and available spots looking like this:

I'm going to be one of those people who insists this is a High Casual RP. I'm not exactly looking for Advanced level length posts, I just don't want to have to assist everyone with their own individual stories because that isn't what this game is about. Two or three players could be working on their own thing in the game while I'm mimicking a battle like Hulk vs Thing or Superman vs Batman with another player in the background. If we lack a Superman or Capt. America type character, then the group can have dibs on collectively making them.

Here's the CS template. Throughout the game we'll create supporting characters and such for our characters and the universe as a group, however active players [one post or more per week] will also have the option of a secondary character. Secondary Characters will need the same info as your Primary Characters and will just be used less often whenever you're not coming up with anything for your Primary Characters. Sandbox heroes and villains will also be made as we need them and can be used by anyone and everyone. For now, let's just work on your Primary Characters, can be hero or villain or something in between....

@Dead Cruiser The Co-GM and I are discussing the amount of powers and such and trying to come up with the best way to trim them down. We need powerful characters but from a glance it looked like 20-25 powers including two different distinct wolf forms. Still it's an interesting concept that would definitely add more superpowers to the mix...

Anybody else taking a look at this?

No exaggeration, it's at least 20 or so. I don't mind a hybrid type of creature, but giving the character virtually every single power of werewolves and vampires with not one but TWO wolf forms is a staggering amount of power. For me, if each creature [werewolf and vamp] has 10 powers each, rather than take all 20 powers combined pick out maybe 5 from each. Speed and stealth of a vamp but strength and berserker rage of a wolf. That kinda thing. Bram Stoker's Dracula had a ton of powers and is the type of vampire you're basing the vamp side of the powers on, which is fine, its just having every one of them plus more powers is crazy powerful. Moreso than Hulk even.



The main power problems I have come from the Devil Wolf being able to induce panic and fear. Those kinda things would happen enough naturally but I don't think it needs to be a power all its own. <<< If its applied with his howl it reminds me of a move in DCU Online, which doesn't make it sounds as bad. Using a vampire's hypnosis would be something maybe in his regular form as a possible alternate...

Another thing was the weaknesses. Something has to be able to kill him. Dracula is the alpha vamp and can be killed. Werewolves can be killed. So why should being a hybrid be any different when he's already got more powers than Dracula? If they're enemies, then Fenrir should've taken Dracula and Co. down in one or two battles if he can't be killed. Especially if the feud has lasted decades. I can see now how the guy will basically be like a superpowered hunter on Supernatural, but one who frequently leaves a bit of collateral damage. He'd likely be under watch by STRIKE but still be at odds with those who view him more as a threat.

He's a vamp who can burn/regenerate in the sun for 12 hours without dying. That's taking a vamps MAIN weaknesses and shrugging it off like it's nothing. It said in the CS his skin and body would burn 'until the sun goes down or until his regeneration gives out' which doesn't really give somebody much to go on. @Aro is better at breaking things down so I'll let him try and work with you on a compromise. I'm wondering if a silver coffin at the bottom of the ocean is overkill or just a damnable prison.

@Dead Cruiser Most of what I read looked like 'hurts him a lot' but nowhere did it say anything was lethal. A stake in the heart for example, kills vampires but listed nowhere probably because of his insane healing factor. Like I said though, @Aro is better at breaking stuff down than I am. He had more thought out ideas for trimming some of the stuff down. I like the character and don't mind him being powerful, but it seems almost limitless if it's dark outside and nobody has silver or fire readily available. I just don't want him being so powerful that he makes the rest of us look like jobbers. The sheer girth of power may seem like semantics, but too many is too many. The Co-GM had to trim my recent character's powers as well because my dude was too OP'ed...

Staking you can hurt you, but it can't kill you. The sun could burn your flesh during the day and immobilize you, but if you've fed you've only gotta wait till the sun goes down. And silver... just takes you longer to heal from. There's no measure of understanding, your boy just has unlimited power and nothing listed thus far can actually kill him.

Second, I actually thought I had this written down, but I can put in a stake weakness if need be. I'd be taking another cue from World of Darkness, and a stake in his heart would not be lethal, but would paralyze him and severely stunt his regeneration until it is removed. His regeneration, however, would be hard at work slowly pushing the stake out of his heart, so it's not a permanent solution, and would keep him incapacitated for perhaps a week at most.

See what I mean? It wasn't in the original CS, but even still it won't put your guy down for the count which makes the whole weakness pointless. Even the Hulk has limits and weaknesses.

Third, let's be honest here. If you're hunting a vampire, a werewolf, or a vampire werewolf, in ideal conditions for them, and you've prepared none of their banes for use against them, yeah you're gonna get your ass handed to you and probably killed. Really what were you expecting by taking on a monster completely unprepared?

Nobody's really hunting anything supernatural, you're pretty much the first step into that whole corner of the universe. Still, 20+ powers is ridiculous with no more weaknesses than you have. If there's no compromising then the sheet won't be accepted.

Hey, I might be interested in this, but jumping into an RP halfway is really, really not my style. Still, I can see that the IC is only two pages long, so story-wise, It doesn't initially look like you guys have gotten very far (I haven't read it yet, FYI), but the OOC is over 20 pages. It will take quite a bit of time for me to read through everything, but I'm willing to be in this for the long haul.

Now this is before having read anything yet, but I'd like to make a Advanced Techno/Evil Genius, basically, my version of Dr. Doom. I don't know what the current roster is (if there are too many heroes, too many villains, etc.), but my character works best in a team and is very generous with the technology they develop, like Iron Man giving Spider Man the Iron Spider suit, my character will attempt to buff up their allies, and attempt to create a team of villains. I guess one issue is, I want my character to start out as someone in the government as a 'hero', they're trying to gain access to databases of super-powered individuals as well as research funding. If possible, my character will use funds to create an artificially intelligent being (Omniac, a second character who would essentially be a technology elemental). I don't know if I want the other players knowing my character actually has ambitions of world domination, although I suppose that won't be a problem as long as people don't metagame.

Powers: Eileen was born with the ability to control phenomena that exhibit mathematical wave behavior starting with sound and light, possibly getting into gravitational waves in the future. She uses technology to augment her abilities relying on harmonics. The light and sound is emitted from her body. She is also blessed with a very high intelligence and her personality gives her a certain degree of charisma.
Weaknesses: Her power is purely offensive, her body has typical human frailty. Her armor protects her somewhat, but isn't that strong, and cannot withstand a direct punch from a super-soldier type. Her most powerful abilities also often requires specific conditions for maximum effect.
Alignment: Villain
Personality: Pleasant, bookworm, Machiavellian, curious, idealistic.
Appearance:BRIEF Bio: Eileen went through her life as a model citizen. Eileen was obedient and went through life without incident. In secret, Eileen practiced her abilities; the more she learned about the scientific and mathematical properties of light and sound, the more powerful she became, able to emit anything on the electromagnetic spectrum, and all frequencies of sound, especially the inaudible frequencies. Her intellect allowed her to achieve a high profile academic career doing research for the government. Her research is in optronics: using photons instead of electrons for data storage and transfer. To harness light in this way, Eileen relies on crystals, which she has an intuitive understanding of thanks to her powers; she uses light and sound to deduce the refractive and acoustic properties of crystals before she creates devices to harness them. Optronics will be significantly faster and more powerful than electronics, so Eileen plans to make artificial intelligence based on optronic hardware. Mostly her work is in weapons development, creating efficient laser weapons and sensor technology for the military. As a government researcher, she decided to risk letting her mutant side show little by little because she wanted more from life. Slowly she revealed herself, showing off her harmless abilities, and figuring out the best and safest way to be a mutant working in the government. It wasn't long before the 'proper authorities' came to acquire her. She leveraged her research position and her overall compliant nature and then she started demonstrating the more 'dangerous' applications of her abilities in order to get noticed, pretending that she had 'only recently' figured out these abilities in order to become a government-sanctioned superpowered individual. Early in her life, due to her intelligence, she saw the governments of the world as inherently broken, but she did not succumb to angst and rebellion. She sees super-powered individuals as the catalyst necessary to subjugate the old conflicting governments and create a new united utopia for Earth. An Earth that can stand toe to toe with the allies and enemies in the galaxy and the universe at large. Her final ambition is to establish a Star Trek-esque United Federation of Planets, with Earth at the center. Her intentions are pure, but her methods may be a little extreme as she has no qualms with 'sterilizing', cleansing or purging the world as she sees necessary.

Notes: She wants to recruit both villains and heroes to her cause, since she sees 'villains' and 'heroes' as labels the world uses to divide supers from helping each other to greatness.

@Stern Algorithm Accepted x 1000. We had an evil genius character, the player just never used him in the game [he might've got one post in actually...]. I've been hoping to get something similar since. The refined character roster is on page 1 of the OOC. The game itself started strong with over 15 accepted characters, but several never got posts in and others dropped out before things really got going.

We've already got STRIKE, which is basically our universe's version of SHIELD. You could alter the CS to incorporate that as her government angle, possibly her employers?

I think a third opinion would be really valuable at this point.

I stated before the powers had to be basically cut in half. If you've got ten werewolf powers and ten vampire powers take five from each. Not all twenty PLUS additional powers and a ridiculous healing factor on par with Wolverine or Deadpool. This isn't the first Wildcard Archetype we've seen with over twenty powers. It's also not the first time somebody insisted on a ridiculous healing factor. If altering the CS isn't in your plans, then there's no other third option aside from me telling you to take it elsewhere. Even if somebody was applying for a character like Loki or Ares, if they had as many powers as your guy, I'd tell them to scale it back.
