Hmm... Well a war between our two countries 20-30 years ago could have been part of what helped my fascists come into power. The short (and not fully in stone) history of my country is that the Humanity United (name subject to change) party started to rise in power around 30 years ago. This was, in part, in response to the crown granting xenos some rights, including partial citizenship. Around 10-20 years ago Humanity United had essentially taken control of the government away from the crown. Things have been going downhill from there as they have tried to spread their influence throughout the military and various planetary/system governments with varying degrees of success.

They could have played the "Strong government to protect the nation" card, yeah. And now that my nation is out of its self-imposed isolation they could start clashing over the smaller planets/factions between them.

As a matter of fact, half of my first post is the State helping a coup in a random planet.

@Isotope Here's a Map with Serp's location

I would assume most human nations are clustered in that general area, with Xeno and other nations set up around it or are way off. Also to note that there's a big ol belt of NPC states wedged between the Terran and Xeno players.

Ah, in that case I'm probably in the outer arm around 150° (which I think is the direction of Aries, if not the actual stars of it).

@Isotope Well I guess to answer your question, The Gaia Republic would sort of make up the space between the Sun and the Federation, and some of the space between the Orion spur and the Perseus Arm...as well as a few asteroid belts all over the galaxy.

@Isotope The Terran Federation probably would have tried to meddle to halt the coup, but obviously failed (Similar to how the British tried to keep the Russian Empire in WW1 but failed). They would see your nation as being led by crypto-xeno lovers for pulling out of the wars.

@Serpentine88 I'm waiting to post until Sigma massacres some of my colonists...it'd be kind of pointless until then. But uh...do you mind looking at my characters real quick and telling me whether you think Cincinnatus or President Parsons would receive a warmer welcome in the Federation? One of them I'm sending to the Federation to try and get military support and one I'm sending to the peace talks on a ship full of pilgrims and missionaries.

@Sigma It looks good, I'll get stared on my post...but since this'll be my first post on this website, any tips before I do? And how much of the Dathu fleet would the colonists be allowed to destroy?

@Ekreture I guess it depends what the colonists have, also to note that the Dathu fleet is mostly made up of light warships, with a few big capital ships, including a supercarrier leading it.

But of course, make sure to have fun writing out the early stages of battle :)
