@Mr Allen J I don't think that it would be jealousy that would motivate everyone to neglect the Hatanakas. It's just that a bunch of soldiers got unrecognized by the Council and others, because they would see no reason to celebrate all the forces that contributed to the war. It was only the particularly scandalous or the like that got much recognition, and even then, largely by the press instead of the Council or anything. c:

Yoko is approved, by the by.

@EchoicChamber Thank.

I'll think of a place to insert Malik and Yoko.

Maybe with one of the newer characters.

@LorelleQuips Can I interact with Canvas to help introduce Yoko and Malik? I kind of had the idea that he says something off to Yoko, and Malik breaks things up.

Yeah @Mr Allen J, it probably makes the most sense that they simply didn't get the same press as some others did, and were resentful? Their heroics didn't get fanfare. Some groups probably got some notoriety and glory because they were super helpful to the war efforts, but also because events lined up to give them spotlights.

...
.....Like having a ton of power-diverse, powerful council children in a unit led by a questionable figure who literally responds to The Devil Himself, with a duo within that group with a catchy-ass name like Storm I and II, and another member who helped deliver a baby on a battlefield, and then another member possibly murder a bunch of innocents...and many of these guys have weird quirks ranging from cross dresser to wearing sunglasses all the time...

That kinda crap just makes good news.

( -ahem- that's just what i know of. Anyone else been concocting behind the scenes backstory? 😅 )

And sure, I will intro him as interacting with Malik at some point today!

EDIT: Yoko. Like you suggested.

Yepp. The Norrevinter are relatively disdainful about other pyromancers, (because whilst they are phenomenally good fighters, Norrevinters are also arrogant jerks), but they're in a hereditary role, and acquitted themselves, through Hilda and Reinhardt, extremely well during the war on Alpha-Omega's vanguard. So they've got no motivation to set out to sandbag another dynasty, and tend to be happy enough to give credit where credit is due. They firmly believe they've been chosen by the gods, so don't tend to feel threatened by anyone else.

It's not to say the Norrevinter are the best pyromancers ever of course. How I see it is that magic is more degrees of specialisation. Norrevinter pyromancers have been bred for pure destruction, rather than finesse, for example. They are not subtle casters.

But I can see maybe a lil bit of antagonism happening?

I'm trying not to make Britney a one-note meangirl wannabe, with being a bitch being her only trait.

As Canvas is around, the Ahktars have become notable sooner than I'd planned, so here are their details for reference:

Ahktar-
Ahktar are a necromancer line originating from Persia, now modern Iran. Coming from a zoroastrian tradition, at one time they served as guardians of a dahkma or 'tower of silence'. They generally refrained from raising bodies except in great need, and instead focused on becoming expert communicators with the spirits, and aiding spirits passing on. As time passed they were often called by council staff to aid in investigations of foul play, as their understanding of the subtle communication methods of the spirits.

Their symbol is the griffon vulture, and whilst their days as guardians of the dead have gone, they continue to breed a flock of the birds where others might keep dogs or horses.

During the war, Reza Ahktar, the heir to the family, was engaged to marry Remona Devereaux, the only daughter of a fading necromancy line. However the two put this on hold in order to do their bit for the magical world. Unfortunately, their scouting team was captured, and Reza among numerous became a ritual sacrifice to the cult, prompting what became known as the infamous 'Queen of the Damned' incident from Remona.

Whilst the union was never seen through, the Ahktar and the Devereaux remained close after the war, and came to see themselves as a single family regardless. The Ahktar were given an estate that belonged to the Devereaux, in France's Massif Central, out of they way so they could continue to talk to the spirits and raise their vulture flock, not coveting the limelight. This was...informed by the fact that Reza's younger sister Leila Ahktar had ended up with a child as the result of an ill-advised fling with a young Sterling.

Since that time the Sterling and the Ahktar have kept a previously unplanned accord, remaining on good terms for the sake of Canvas' wellbeing.

@Mr Allen J Britney doesn't seem like a one note type of character to me. She's been quite enjoyable to read so far. :)

Oh, also, this sort of goes to everyone, but I noticed that a lot of people have been having their characters tell that Madison is a crossdresser or a man right off the bat, when Madison is supposed to be near indistinguishable from a woman. It's an integral part of his character, and while it isn't too big of a deal, I just wanted to point it out as it has been happening often.

I vanished for a few days, and I'm so sorry for having ghosted!

That being said, I'm definitely up for character backstories or families ties to anyone.

The Sterlings probably have some kind of connection with most of the bigger families, and probably a good share of the small ones. Larke's father has a seat on the council, and they've basically got a monopoly in magical trade. I worked out with Echo that they contract with the Memolis for moving "discrete" goods, and Larke and Dawn's fathers have a good business relationship. They also work well with most of the Council families, and have a reputation for sticking to their word and doing good work.

Except for the Norrevinter fiasco, but savages will be savages, you know?

The Byrne family is all but died out, but they were fowlers in Ireland. They used aeromancy for flight and hunting, as an older group, but weren't know for much else.

The Guerra family is in the US and Cuba, and I'm down for any connections there, as well!

Yoko is not amused.

Now, if you're wondering why I didn't have Yoko pull the whole "My family gets no recognition!" thing. I am saving it until the right moment, so it doesn't sound like it's the only facet of her character.

And it felt really weird to do it in the middle of the thing with Canvas.
