Intro

Will you stand for the Empire?

The vicious hordes of Northmen have come once again, this time they have taken more than just slaves, food, and weapons. They burned the capital, killing the prince upon the walls as he led the valiant defense and slaughtered the Emperor in his palace as he tried to escape the sacking of the city. News of this terrible defeat has reached many ears and as the search for the crown princess continues as the Oshia Republic prepares its invasion force.

Along the southern border, dozens of young officers fresh from the academy are brought to lead platoons of inexperienced soldiers to battle against a well-trained foe. The enemy is at the gates, do you have the courage to stand and strike a blow against an enemy who sees the very way of life of Empire removed?

If you want to add additional soldiers from a platoon (Like a sergeant or something.) use the simple CS below and just like your main character bad decisions can get them killed.

Just to let everyone know I will doing a prolouge in the IC detailing the events of the invasion of Northmen, how it was repelled and how everything aligned perfectly to possibly destroy the Empire.

@Guilty Spark @Dynamo Frokane Eager to hear your thoughts on added content and such or see your ideas for Platoons.

@caliban22 A little rough but I like it so far.

@Wernher Has also created a very interesting and unique Engineer platoon.

Lastly, I'm leaving what happened to the crown princess open-ended for now. Though I may add her as NPC later.

@Apollosarcher It'd be nice to have a few more platoon types, It does feel like I'm stuck between choosing gun or cavalry, because the others seem somewhat ineffective on a battlefield in most normal situations.

Maybe a heavy gunner or a stealth /espionage platoon could be added? I'm just throwing out ideas.

@Dynamo Frokane This is 18th century warfare, artillery was almost exclusively in a straight firing line, even in early WW1 many major nations didn't even have more than a handful modern artillery that fired in arc so arty is probably how you get the most K/D in this entire thing.

Mages have magic bruh.

Overall I'd say you can just specialize in what you want. Scouting? Take a gun or horse platoon and specialize them in scouting. Heavy gunner? Gun platoon with more machineguns per soldiers than others, etc. These are just basic guidelines in my opinion.

I'd like to run a light infantry mage platoon. How many mages per platoon and how many men per section do we have here? I want to play a mage that is not blowing things up or healing people. I feel like minor manipulations of things is more the order of the day for what I want to do, which is create a mage that buffs his men and perhaps can throw up some visual distraction or make ground more soggy, etc.

I'd love guidance, but I'll start lashing together a character for approval.

The new guard. From left to right, Imperial Warrant Officer Nicolas de Rosecroix, Imperial Corporal Emil Lambert, Imperial Corporal Francis Lebel.

Name: Count Nicolas de Rosecroix
Age: 24
Platoon: Engineers
Weapons: Pistol & Sword
Personality: As a noble and an intellectual, the count is often distant from the soldiers under his command as they just don't come from the same background, but yet they admire the fact that he's genuinely smart, able to formulate effective and practical solutions to any problem the platoon encounters and above all, ones that don't necessitate outrageous amounts of risks. Although the man doesn't consider himself a man of war, preferring architecture and urbanism, even he admits that there is something fun about constantly facing new problems and challenges, perhaps he likes it more than it would be proper for someone to do so.
Bio: Rosecroix is a large village near the northern border of the empire who once stood at the edge of the situation, the Count living in a fortified castle and tasked to defend the border. Since then however, the border moved further up the map and if at the edge, Rosecroix was comfortable within the Empire, its fortifications abandoned and the count moving to a luxurious mansion. Still, the military tradition kept on and from a young age, Nicolas was expected to go in the army for a military service before becoming count at the death of his father.

This never did appeal to Nic who had taken a liking in the old arches and towers of the castle of his ancestors and much prefered architecture. The only middle ground he managed to find with his father was to study to specialize as a military engineer before taking the officer class. He did good in his classes but truth be told he probably wasn't the best in them either being told he was too soft spoken and 'experimental' in nature, he qualified for selection but his father nudged the choice in his favor. Some people called him out on this but what proof did they have? Plus, Nic is actually competent unlike a lot of others using bribery and contacts to get where they are.

At the start of the war he didn't get news from his family but was quickly informed that his birth place had been taken over by the northmen and thus fears his family captured or dead. This wasn't a turn of event he expected but he realizes the importance of the task falling upon the soldiers of the Empire right now and guess his father was right: As a noble its his duty to protect his homeland.

Theme

Name: Emil Lambert
Age: 24
Weapons: Air Carbine
Platoon: Engineers
Bio: A man with a fiery temper, he distinguished himself during training with his courage but not so much his brain. Truth is he's good for leading a couple of people to execute a plan, but not to make one though he often not realizes that. He and Nicolas quite frankly dislike each other, and that's putting it mildly though they can put that aside for the cause. Since the war started they are much less at each other's throats at least.

Name: Francis Lebel
Age: 20
Weapon: Air Carbine
Platoon: Engineer
Bio: A city boy who joined to better his life rather than for a sense of duty, Nicolas still keeps an eye on him and made him a corporal simply because the guy, while he may not know it, is brilliant. Oh he calls it just being able to think about what's behind the hill but simply being able to detect obvious flaws in someone's plans or think about little details makes him invaluable. Nicolas is thus grooming him to take an officer course believing he'd make a fine commander.

The old guard, Imperial Sergeant Yves Barbokis

Name: Yves Barbokis
Age: 62
Weapon: Air Carbine
Platoon: Engineer
Bio: He doesn't like to discuss it, but he is partly northman, his mother having fallen victim to a raid long ago, this imbued him with the desire to defend the innocents from such a faith. He served for a long time and saw quite some action before going to retirement with his wife, giving his time to his children and grand children in the south. With the war raging however, he was mobilized back in a hurry and placed under the command of Nicolas, as his previous sergeant had deserted with the news of the war. The young ones are kind of confusing for him, he after all served with his own platoon his entire life and saw his mates age with him but he does what he can to try and give some knowledge to them.

@Dynamo Frokane Well that's the thing with this style of warfare troops were generally very singular in purpose. So you won't see many units that can charge, lay down heavy fire, and break enemy lines. Gunner platoon could train with Hurricane gun emplacements if you want heavy weapons. While on paper Platoons will be given a defined name and structure the truth that each platoon would probably have certain things it excelled at over others thus changing how a commander might use them.

@HeySeuss Hmmm... Well, wind mages or telekinetics spring to mind but perhaps that's a little general. I'd happily discuss this further.

@Wernher Looks good, move it on over.

I'm trying to steer away from lethal magics and prefer to do terrain preparation. Or just subtle buffs to his own platoon. I am envisioning a character that does not have some sort of burgeoning talent, but rather is going to be creative and efficient with what he's got.

@HeySeuss Hmm... Well, perhaps your character is not trapped under a single school of magic? It would weaken each school more and more schools he could work with. He could use this talent to alter the terrain by controlling water to form mud in the water and then use fire to bake it if his troops needed to advance. His powers in each would be limited to just simple control of whats in front of him but utility would make it worth it.

@HeySeuss Alright, well just to let you know. Wind mages can recharge air canisters very fast, generally though they are assigned to large battalions rather than formed in platoons. Water mages are normally kept to the navy so they can keep damaged ships afloat or destroy enemy vessels. Other forms of magic are listed above I believe, I felt these two were irrelevant to anyone who wasn't going to play a mage company so just didn't add it in.

As for your platoon strength, each platoon is at max strength at the start. Fifty soldiers and the officer for the platoon.

@HeySeuss Generally. A mage platoon is all mages. Sometimes mages are attached to artillery platoons if they have additional mages but not enough for a squad.
