I have so much to do in IC in terms of increasing my IC influence, especially now that we have so many capital ships. The struggle is going to be real for me. It'll be awesome.
I low-key want to rename my special forces to something that sounds more real world just because I feel it'll sound better. By more real world I mean something like "8th Special Tactics Group - Delta" rather than "Onyx Guard" xd
I don't know, it's not at all important, but if I want to do it I have to do it early... so... can I?

@Flamelord Don’t ask my starfleet chars they will fight you for being oppressive.
Don’t ask my dead space characters they will unitolgy (or whatever it is called I know it is similar to that) then they will stop nothing short of absolute dismemberment, saving the head for last.

Oh, good, I can reply to the OOC again.

Interesting. I'm noticing two main camps forming, so far - the EVE ships and the Star Wars ships. Makes sense; the crews would cling to something familiar. Although there's also a few people who haven't posted their intro yet, so who knows what will end up coalescing.

Also, NanoFreakV2 pointed out something amusing: we have no idea which ships use shields and which don't. Hopefully that won't end up being important.

@DocTachyon Wait, how long has your ship been named the same as one of the NPC's?

@Queen Raidne Uh, my Venator's crew has been stated to be 5,467 units - which include the troopers onboard and everything else.

And my ship does have shielding as well.

@Queen Raidne Yeah, I see your point, just that the entire thing bothered me about how empty the ship was, and again I justify the increase in attack craft with the lack of sufficient support ships to sustain them all at once. I see all the additional hundreds more like reserves; fresh attack waves after the first few.

Anyways, my ship doesn't have shields at all, just thicc armor (sorry, lol). Defense fields and Progenitor phase shields are the closest in the Homeworld universe to shielding technology, and it's to be noted that both are only activated when they're needed most to mitigate massive amounts of damage 'cept that Phase Shields are "skin-tight" and Defense Fields cover up entire groups of frigates.

@Queen Raidne And btw, could Vell detect Palpatine’s dark aura since it’s said that he hadn’t shieleded his presence? Vell wouldn’t obviously recognize Sidious but he’ll definitely feel that raw untamed dark side energy from him.

It has shields that protect it from energy weapons but starfighters, proton torpedos, or ion pulse missiles fly right on through. Fear the MAC guns... Fear them well my friend until you get to upgrade those defenses. (Thankfully the Goa'uld use energy weapons almost exclusively.)

I'm disappointed I missed this. I wouldn't have been able to resist submitting my Uraga class Stealth carrier from Macross! Then again I do have a nice system Lord I would love to play. Of course one would have to resist the temptation to submit either a Macross Quarter or a Glorious Heritage Class ship from Andromeda. Those would be just too ridiculous.

Yeah, @Lmpkio, that was my intent. I always strive to make interaction happen with my posts. Unless they're exposition dumps. I must have missed your crew count - my bad.
Or a really awesome fight scene between NPC's which I already wrote.

@Assallya I anticipate opening it back up in a week or two. I'll change the join status tag to reflect that.

The US Nimitz-class aircraft carrier is 333m long and can have 5,000+ crew... so I mean a 2km ship would have a lot too. Although the more advanced Ford-class has much less because of more automation... which you'd expect in a spaceship.
And it carries like ~85 fixed-wing aircraft, although those cannot be launched all at once like you see in sci-fi.
I use the US navy a lot when it comes to comparing ship compliments :)

You're absolutely correct Mataus. The "Sortie rate" is a very important metric that often gets forgotten when people talk about carrier strength. Being able to launch and recover aircraft quickly is very important in an operation.

I also read a fascinating article a short while ago written by some air force personnel that lamented how much weaker aircraft carriers are currently compared to how they were in the nineties. Apparently their sortie rate is much lower and the range of the strike craft has been greatly reduced. The preoccupation with both stealth and dog-fighting has severely curtailed the carriers ability to reach further and sortie faster. Simply put, the Navy needs planes with large wings for fuel efficiency and to carry more fuel. Interceptors, or dogfighters, are designed with smaller wings to be more aerodynamically unstable and thus pull more G's without tearing the plane apart.

I must admit, I never once gave any thought to the sortie rate until I read that article.

I actually initially planned to play a Glorious Heritage Class ship. But was told it was too much for the rp. Of course that was before a mothership from homeworld showed up.

Yeah the Glorious Heritage is ridiculous. Nova Bombs that destroy star systems are just the least of their insanity. Kinetic kill missiles speeding at 95 PSL with a range of just over one AU are just mind boggling.

Most other franchises wouldn't even see the attacks coming at that speed. Relativity is a mean bugger.

and the poor UNSC had to fight the Covenant who had the energy projected which launched a beam of plasma at 99.9 percent the speed of light...

Just wanted to be sure about Palpatine.

And no worries about the crew count. While I did list them, I also did mention the amount they have currently and the max amount that the ship can carry. Could've been the source of the confusion? But either way, np at all. :)
